I have another rec. Not Afraid To Keep On Living. I was extremely lucky to be able to read along with this as
saxihighlandck was writing. It's her first big bandom story and it pulls you in and delivers one heck of a kick. Please, read the warnings. Then go read and feed, tell her how great she did.
Last night I got my
bandom_hc posting date, next Tuesday, one day after my
rpf_big_bang posting date. I was highly amused when I saw because I'd been suspecting that would happen for a while.
I don't think I mentioned it on here but I did pick up a prompt at
bandom_au, one where Bob is a preschool teacher. My last two stories have been a touch angsty so that seemed like a nice change of pace. Yesterday I started plotting it out in my mind and ended up with a ridiculously large cast of characters and an actual plot that ends up with a fund raising concert that includes Mr Bob coaching his class as they bang out a song on plastic drums and bowls. There's also a dog, hamster, finger painting, necklaces made with pasta, story time, naps and misunderstandings involved. I don't even know myself any more.
In non writing news. Lately my family are having a streak of bad luck health wise. My sister broke her foot, my nanna damaged her knee, Corey's off school with an upset stomach and two night ago Milo went to jump onto the shelf above our bed, fell and scratched all the way down James' face. Which isn't serious as such but he wasn't at all pleased.
Our Sky plus box has been acting up, too. Sky says the only option we have left is to do a total wipe so we've been trying to watch everything left on there. It means I'm losing the show where Corey's class was on tv and all the music shows I tend to watch often. No doubt those will be shown again, but Corey's class, not so much. I'll be so annoyed at Sky if we do this and it doesn't work, but we have to try because right now the only way things will record is if reboot the box before anything that's scheduled to be recorded, which isn't convenient at all.

Date: 2009-10-06 12:12 pm (UTC)(in other random news, last night, I dreamed that Jon's brother was Mikey Fucking Way and he dragged me down into the basement and found me a kitten... I liked it.)

Date: 2009-10-06 12:58 pm (UTC)My brain wasn't switched on for a moment there and I was thinking how weird it would be for Jon Walker and Mikey to be brothers. But your version is much better, especially with the addition of kittens.

Sad thing is, we know he'd be dressing that kitten up in no time at all.

Date: 2009-10-06 01:17 pm (UTC)That kitten would have no chance at all!
*curls up with you*

"Don't Walker Way, Mikey..."
(I didn't get a lot of sleep last night. Definitely delirious.)

Date: 2009-10-06 12:44 pm (UTC)Such a run of bad health luck. I hope everyone feels better soon.
I'm glad you have a plot for your Bob-as-schoolteacher story. It sounds delightful.

Date: 2009-10-06 12:56 pm (UTC)It should be fun. Maybe this time instead of questions about who should be sent on rescue missions or wondering about injuries I'll send you emails about glitter and safety scissors.

Date: 2009-10-06 01:16 pm (UTC)It's a small independent preschool run by Ray and he goes all out to give places to kids that needs them. That means that often they're running on fumes budget wise and it's been known for the staff to buy food for meals, knowing that for some kids that's all they'll get for the day.
Bob retrained after the damage to his wrists meant he had to give up drumming and tech. Sometimes the pain in his wrists is so bad he has to wear his splints and the kids sit on his knee and cover them in gold stars because he's so brave.
He has a ninja costume in the dressing up box and the knees of his pants are always shiny from where he's kneeling down to play at the miniature kitchen or push trains around a track.
He hadn't intended to stay but ends up picking up a stray dog and his tiny apartment starts to fill with stuff from 'his' kids.
There's a display of the kids photographs on the wall outside his classroom. Bob's there too, but all his shows is his chest.
Yeah, I hope so. The bad health cloud needs to blow away and soon.

Date: 2009-10-06 01:33 pm (UTC)Awwww! That's making me think of some of the sad stories I've heard about stuff like that. (My sister-in-law worked at a preschool here in town, and I had a couple friends who worked at the preschool where my son went.)
and the kids sit on his knee and cover them in gold stars because he's so brave.
OMG that is SO FREAKING ADORABLE. *FLAIL*
NINJA COSTUME. And stuff from his kids!! LOVE.
Bob's there too, but all his shows is his chest.

Seriously, just these details are making my day. &you;

Date: 2009-10-06 02:18 pm (UTC)I need to do actual research when I start the story in earnest because right now I'm just pulling ideas together, but I know some children do have to survive on the meals they get at school. It's a very sad thing.
It's weird how some stories start with mental snapshots, like the ones I mentioned but also when Jon -- who volunteers there -- helps Bob roll out a huge piece of paper and they do footprint painting. Bob wearing his manpris, a pair of striped socks hanging out of his pocket and his feet bright orange as he walks over the paper, being careful not to step on any of the tiny footprints already there.
Or late night staff meetings, them all sitting on those tiny chairs, pizza boxes in the middle of the table as they try to work out if they can even stay open and Bob realising something that was only supposed to be temporary now means everything.
Now I just need to shore the details up with an actual detailed plot.

Date: 2009-10-06 01:30 pm (UTC)Wow, that is a mean streak of bad luck health wise, all right! Are you holding up? *hugs*
It sucks re: losing the show with Corey's class. Can't you ask someone else (like some other parents or his teachers) if they have a copy?

Date: 2009-10-06 01:41 pm (UTC)I'm fine, thank goodness. Sitting here as Corey's stretched out on the couch under his quilt.
Can't you ask someone else (like some other parents or his teachers) if they have a copy?
The problem is it's from a really long time ago, back when he was in his primary school, so we're talking nearly four years. Still, it's worth exploring.

Date: 2009-10-06 03:00 pm (UTC)At least you got your post date! \o/ Can't wait to read it.
Hee... the Teacher AU's attack! :D (We were team!PlanecrashAU now are we team!teacherAU? :D)
I hope everyone feels better/gets well soon.
That sucks about possibly losing Corey's class on tv. D: Not awesome Sky. Not. Awesome.

Date: 2009-10-06 05:15 pm (UTC)Ha! We are a team. Though I hope the teachers have a lot less death and pain.
I'm sure people will be feeling better soon. Maybe hobbling a bit but they'll get there.

Date: 2009-10-06 03:58 pm (UTC)Mr Bob the preschool teacher in a pasta necklace cuddling a dog!! (Just don't dwell too much on the misunderstandings, that way lays angst ;-)
That is a seriously bad streak of luck for the family health! I hope at least Corey will get better soon and that James' face will heal up swiftly. And that YOU don't get sick too. Take care of yourself! *tries to look stern*
That sucks about losing so much tv stuff, especially the show with Corey's class. I'm keeping my fingers crossed you'll manage to find someone who's got a copy of that. And good luck with the wiping and resetting, I really hope it works.

Date: 2009-10-06 05:13 pm (UTC)There needs to be a little angst! Just a tiny bit as he sorts out his life in-between making pasta necklaces *g*
I'm fine and I'm sure Corey will be too in a few days. James will just be a bit scabby.
If the wipe doesn't work I'm going to be so mad. Sky keeps showing these adverts about how convenient it is to press a button and have a series of shows taped automatically, and it is, when the damn thing works!
