Apr. 30th, 2010 12:59 pmI've been adding my fic over at AO3 and got some fantastic comments on When Day is Night Alone. It's made me miss that rush when you have a story that you just have to write. Not that I haven't enjoyed the latest ones, because I have, but it's a special feeling when you have a story that's just itching under your skin. WDINA was like that, 70k written within a few months and I love thinking back to that time, the emails I sent as the story started running forward on its own. Bob in Spaaace!, the Tints stories, the slave fic, they're all that kind of fic and I want that feeling again. Problem is, I don't have any ideas that are jumping up and saying, write me!
There are some common factors in a lot of those must write stories. A Mikey/Pete pairing, a big cast of characters including MCR and Panic, bad things happening to good people, AU, h/c and a sense of home. If only it was as easy as taking those elements and coming up with something new.
Also, a question to those that use AO3. I keep getting stuck on how to tag stories involving Jon, Ryan, Brendon and Spencer. Right now I'm tagging with TYV and Panic but at the time of writing most of the stories the split hadn't happened. So do I just group those as Panic? I don't know.
In non-writing news we've been getting our living room re-plastered so things have been a little chaotic for a while. We've only the two rooms downstairs so there's stuff everywhere right now but at least the blinds are back up and the plaster has dried so it's not like living in a humid dark cave any more. We've got the bare minimum of furniture back in, just in time to cover it all again when the walls and ceiling are painted. Then after that it all needs taken out for the new carpet. I have so much admiration for you guys that are dealing with bigger projects because man, one room was bad enough. Still, I found the extension so I can plug in the treadmill again and my knee is feeling better and the room will look awesome when it's done, so I count things as a plus.
We had planned to go shopping tomorrow but the scouts were offered a cancellation for a bag pack so that's been knocked on the head. Not the best of timing really as James won't be off again until Thursday but the more money they make doing that the less that has to be paid for the France trip. It just means we need to do a fast grocery trip as soon as James is home as it's the regular scout meeting tonight.
I'm ridiculously behind in email/LJ right now so these thank yous are late. Sorry. Thank you to CJ for the Frank VG and to anon for the years paid DW time. You're both awesome ♥

Date: 2010-04-30 02:09 pm (UTC)It's not that I think the stories that don't have that feeling are rubbish, it's just, the ones that do feel like that are special. There's nothing like that feeling when the words fly from your fingertips.

Date: 2010-04-30 01:46 pm (UTC)OMG, I love it when a story flows, but I haven't had that in awhile. I miss it too. What's funny, is that although the stories that flow are some of my best, the ones I plodded through are still good (My Mikey/Pete and Classic, for example). It's funny how the writing experience isn't really reflected in the writing.
I know I should take this as an indication I should just write whether I feel like it or not, but it never works out that way. I'm still chasing the golden experiences.

Date: 2010-04-30 02:13 pm (UTC)How's your project going?
Yeah, I get you about the other plodding stories are still good. I was just commenting to Donna how I don't think my other stories are bad, it's just the ones that want to pull free feel special. Golden experience is a good way to describe it.
Writing is such a weird thing. I just hope that I do get another golden story at some point.

Date: 2010-04-30 03:14 pm (UTC)I sooo want a golden story again too. And one I actually feel inspired by from beginning to end, not languishing in my WIP folder (Sea!AU, I'm looking at you!).

Date: 2010-04-30 02:51 pm (UTC)I haven't changed my delicious tagging of Panic, I still just tag them as "Panic" and nothing else.
Oh noes, there's going to be painting and carpeting done too, I feel for you! You'll just have to keep thinking of how awesome it will look when it's finished I guess. Lots of good luck with everything!
They're going to France this year too?! The same place as last year or are they going somewhere different this year?

Date: 2010-04-30 06:22 pm (UTC)I suspect keeping it as Panic would work just as well. Tags are hard! It's why I don't use them unless I have to.
Yeah, the painting and carpeting will be done in the next few weeks. It wouldn't be so bad if it could have all been done at once but that was impossible.
Yep, they're going a week after I come back from Camp Sparkle. And yeah, the same place again, just they're going to try some different activities.

Date: 2010-04-30 06:44 pm (UTC)Tags are LOVE!! Though the way they work on LJ is pretty pointless since you can't combine them and get only the entries that have both tags.
Yeah, I'm sure it would have been much less bothersome if they could have done all of it at the same time. It's always that way when you're not doing it yourself, when the plasterer is free the carpet layer is busy and vice versa. I think it's some kind of universal constant!
I just turned over the page in my desk calendar and saw that Camp Sparkle starts next weekend. I'm going to miss seeing you this year SO MUCH!!!!
