MX thoughts

ninjetti75 for a while, and he had me smiling within minutes as usual. The chat was so much fun, crossing MX with sbd's. He had all the details down, and man, the line about Lance wanting Justin's DNA has been making me giggle all day. Then castalie and babycakesin cheered me up with a selection of suggestive comments. You know you've got good friends when they talk about sex, torture and Brennan in response to a pitiful post *g*
I'm totally copying mouse, but my AIM identity is turps33uk if anyone wants it. Yeah I know, hardly original but like mouse said, at least I'm easily found. I don't actually chat much, combination of time zones, RL, and my own social inadequacies, but feel free to drop me an IM if you see me.
I've watched 3 episodes of MX now, and want to discuss, so I'll cut away for those that don't give a toss about MX
I'm not going to do a huge essay on this, just a few observations.
First, the pilot episode 'Into a Moonless Night' I'm starting with a shallow moment here, which if anyone knows me isn't that unexpected. The first shot of Brennan was fantastic. It appealed so much to the part of me that adores h/c with him unconscious, but looking fantastic. But enough of that for now.
The episodes didn't seem to follow on very well. I know it's because of John and Lauren not being there, but I was disappointed that the cliff hanger of them hanging onto the collapsed building wasn't extended more. Going from that to them being in the field hospital thing was a little abrupt IMO.
Emma's death did make me cry. I have no shame in admitting that I'm a softy. She isn't my favourite character, in fact I disliked her at times as she seemed little more than a Mary Sure, but that didn't mean that I wanted her dead. I miss her in the show, it seems unbalanced now with Lexa being more like Brennan with her powers, attitude etc. I didn't like Emma, but at least her mutation was different, and you could always rely on her for empathy/caring ( that was when she wasn't wiping your mind ) A totally over done cliché of her hand falling from under the blanket and her ring falling off, but damn that was the point the tears came. Because Jesse was just devastated, and seeing the ring roll away, the symbol of MX hurt. This may make me sound the biggest geek but the MX team means a lot to me. I know that I mess about and squee about Brennan, but I genuinely love the show, have done from episode 1. I watched as Adam built the team, and they became friends and a tight unit. So to see Emma's ring roll away, was like seeing some part of MX destroyed.
However, saying all that all I can think is that they didn't show her face, and that leaves the door open for Lauren to return if she wants. They've done it before ( Mason) so why not again?
I miss Adam, but his disappearance annoys me. It's like every season he changes. In season 1 he was the good guy. Fighting to rectify his mistakes and the GSA. Season 2 we found out he had secrets and contacts, that he wasn't as well meaning as we'd be led to believe. I accepted that, I can't see Adam as some kind of innocent. He messed with DNA, creating new mutants that have to live their lives knowing they'll die early. Maybe he did it with the best of intentions, but the facts remain he's ruined a lot of lives. Now we have to believe he's even more of a mystery and had hidden even more from his team. I can believe he had secrets, but S3 Adam seems to be a bit unbelievable to me just now. Maybe when he explains himself a little when he comes back I'll be willing to accept this change in his character, but not just yet.
I though the reactions of the team about Adam were okay. It was obvious that Brennan would be mad, and yeah, I can see him storming out. But leave Jesse and Shal just after Emma died? I don't think so. I also think Jesse and Shalimar would defiantly stick around, I mean, what else do they know?
Onto characters, and no, I'm not starting with Brennan ;)
Lexa. I'm veering between dislike and acceptance depending on the episode just now. She annoys me all the time, and would her face crack if she smiled? She's smug, self serving, sullen, and she kissed Brennan when he wouldn't even want to put his hands on her skanky ass ;) Seriously, I think she has the potential to be a good character, her mutant power is awesome, but she's just a female Brennan. Elemental, full of herself and argumentative, I think as she integrates with the team she'll become more likeable. However, she did call Brennan sparky which made me lol.
Jesse. Jesse is looking great, which is good thing as his good looks are all we have to watch as he's doing nothing but use the computers. I know that Forbes hurt his back but surely they could give him something to do apart from searches? I can't even say much about Jesse as he hasn't really done much to comment on. All the episodes I've seen he's been in charge of the computers. I just hope his finest moment isn't going to be watching Emma die in the first few minutes of the season. He did have a good argument with Brennan about leaving MX, and when he faced Lexa down about going to rescue him.
Shalimar. I like Shalimar, but she never seems to change. She's a good character, but that's all I can say about her, except it looks like they're going to be pushing the B/S thing which doesn't make me happy.
Brennan. He looks good, really good. I could believe that he wanted to leave MX in the heat of the moment, he had all those run ins with Adam about keeping secrets last season, so to discover the secrets were even deeper must have seemed like a betrayal. I do think he would have come back though, Jesse and Shalimar are just too important for him to leave behind.I have to say that one of the stand out moments for me so far was when Silva was torturing Brennan. I think Silva is one of the best supporting mutants I've seen, and when he was standing over Brennan and answered ( paraphrasing here) " I only do it slow." after Brennan asked if he was going to say "I can do this the fast way or slow" I just about fell off my chair. Total slash moment that make me go eep! It also seems Bren is going to keep his record of being whumped all the time. 3 episodes and he's been tortured and infected and turned into a purple zombie thing. I can see fights with Lexa ahead which will be interesting and I can't wait to see what he says to Adam when he appears. I guess what people will remember is how he killed that woman in the wheelchair in cold blood. It did shock me at the time, but Brennan has always killed when he needed to, and yeah maybe he didn't need to kill that woman but the bitch had just invaded his mind and forced the secrets of his home out. I don't blame him. I know it's something that will split people but by that time Brennan had seen his whole life fall off kilter. Emma dead, Adam 'betraying' them, Lexa taking over, sold out by his old friends, been tortured twice and had his abilities questioned when he lost the chip to Eckhart. I would have snapped too. Also, the end when he blasted Mason. I was shocked at that. I had no idea he was going to die. One last thing, I liked that they showed that Brennan doesn't have limitless reserves of electricity to blast, and the scene where he was holding onto the generator and just lit up with electric and was blasting away. The coolest thing ever.
I think that's it for now. In summary. I miss Emma and Adam, and am undecided about Lexa just now. Like Shalimar still, love Jesse and absolutely adore Brennan. MX is still an awesome show and I don't care how many people mock it I think it's fantastic.
