It's been a week.

You may remember the wet room drain had blocked. Well, we got that sorted but in the process managed to flood the bathroom, so the water dripped through the floor, into the kitchen ceiling and soaked one of the kitchen light fittings, which blew the fuses for the ceiling lights in the living room, kitchen, toilet, hallway and landing. Our fuse box is the old fashioned kind that needs wires, and is also situated at ceiling hight over the kitchen units. It was usually Corey's job to change fuses, but of course he isn't here so it was up to me and James. We managed, but as soon as the new fuse wire was in the lights crackled and the fuse went again.

In the end we were without those lights for three days, and I got a bath of dirty, freezing blocked shower water that had gathered in the bowl part of the fitting when an electrician recommended unscrewing the light fitting to allow it to dry quicker. After that and another new fuse the lights started working again, thankfully.

Then we had a leak at the other side of the kitchen when the boiler packed up. It leaked everywhere, but thankfully as the boiler is in the airing cupboard the towels and bedding soaked up most of the water. For a while we had no hot water or heating, but now, nearly £300 later, that's fixed too, and we're still washing and drying batches of towels and bedding. But, to look on the bright side, at least it didn't happen in winter, that would have sucked.

Dad is home from hospital. He's going for his first appointment with the cancer specialist on Monday so we'll know more concrete news then. I'm just glad he's home for Pauline's birthday meal/gathering tomorrow. Most of her family and friends are going and it'll do them both good to get out and relax. Even when he was in hospital dad was saying it had to go on, even if he couldn't go. But of course it wouldn't have been the same. They've booked a room in the hotel where we're having the meal, so if he gets tired it'll be easy enough to slip away.

And on Tuesday I went for my

I went in on the Tuesday afternoon and it was fitted a few hours later. The actual process wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Not something I particularly want to do again but bearable, mostly due to the nurse looking after me who kept stroking my head and reminding me to breathe as it was all going on. I didn't really like the doctor doing the balloon, he said he preferred not to use sedation, but I told him I'd like some. Not that I felt any different after. I've spent a load of time researching and reading other stories about the experiences other people had, and the ones with sedation tended to say they forgot what happened after and slept a lot. I can remember every moment and really didn't feel any different after I was given it.

I spent the night in hospital, where I didn't get much sleep but had some nice talks with the other four ladies in the bay, and when I could tolerate eating some yoghurt, and then later a few spoonfuls of soup, was let home with my anti sickness and anti heartburn drugs and a card to carry saying I have a gastric balloon.

I've been very lucky in that I've had very few side effects so far. Mainly I've a lack of energy, which I guess isn't surprising with the combination of lack of food and how busy things were before I went in. James has been looking after me very well, and today I get to try some soft food, which means a very mushy weetabix later and then maybe some mashed potato and gravy for tea. It's weird though, right now I'm just not interested in eating. I'm sure that will change, but yeah, weird.

You may also remember I didn't want dad and Pauline to know so they wouldn't have something else to worry about. Well they know all now. James had to tell all because a lady on the ward I was on was Pauline's friend -- something I discovered when she started telling her visitors how dad had been admitted after getting cancer. So James' told Pauline all once he knew dad was home, and I'm glad about that really. The only person who doesn't know now is nanna, and that one really isn't about to change.

In conclusion, a bit of a hectic week but thing are okay for all at the moment.

What a week, indeed! Water and electricity are such a scary combination. I'm glad everything got fixed in the end without anyone getting hurt or your house taking more damage.

I'm keeping everything crossed for your dad. And for you too, of course! *sends many, many healthy thoughts to you both*

Of course one of the people at your ward knew one of your relatives! So typical!

Yikes! Any one of those things seems like more than enough to overwhelm a week, but to have them all at once - wow.

I hope the worst of the house damage is behind you. And it sounds good that your dad didn't have to be in the hospital during the birthday celebration. I hope it went smoothly.

And I wish you a smooth recovery from your procedure, and hope you will start seeing the benefits soon!
