Feb. 19th, 2017 07:49 amI had a good birthday yesterday.
Corey came home from uni for a night and we went out to eat on Friday night, then yesterday was just a nice, relaxed day. First I could finally open the presents
sperrywink sent me, and look at them! Musketeer kitties! and badges and poster and such a lovely card. I was thrilled. And I also got an excellent gift of knitted headbands and excellent card from
turlough and Lancecat which are also shown in that photo.
Mostly I got money, but when I got home late last night my brother had dropped me a gift bag off at my neighbours, and opening it I saw he'd given me a Boots giftcard from him and a box of chocolates from my niece and nephew, which was a lovely surprise. Since he and his partner completely split up he's been much more thoughtful with gifts and cards. I think he's turning over a new leaf.
After taking Corey grocery shopping we dropped him home at Newcastle and went to Metro Centre. The plan was a movie, shopping and to eat, but we got there so late that had to be rushed and I could only go to one shop. But, I bought a new outfit, and the assistant helped me find trousers that actually fit. It turns out I need ones with extra short legs, which surprised me. I mean, I'm 5 foot 6, I didn't think that was particularly short. But I guess my legs must be short considering the fit I needed.
After that we went to see Hidden Figures, and it was so good! Though because of 50 Shades being on most of the screens it was shown in one of the smaller screens, and as a result was packed. Still, I enjoyed every moment.
And of course, I got messages on here and via email, DMs, twitter and insta. So thank you all for those. You helped make my day feel special ♥
I also got my appointment for my 6 month check up yesterday, so let me indulge in some birthday naval gazing
Yesterday mam was telling me Kayleigh's girlfriend was looking at our wedding photos and saying she wouldn't have recognised me in them. I was sceptical of that because yes, I've lost weight but not to that extent.
But then later I was looking at photos and realised it was a year and a few days ago I'd bought the dress I was wearing that day, and I'd posted about it on insta at the time. So I got James to take a quick photo -- which is why I look so awkward as while it doesn't look it, it was pretty busy where we were -- and made a comparison shot, something I find really helpful in an encouragement way.
And while I still don't think I'm unrecognisable, a year and a few days, the change is there.

While the dress I'm wearing is pretty baggy, it'll still last for a bit yet as it's got a smallish neckline so doesn't fall off my shoulders like many of my other dresses. But the trousers will have to be history. There's a few pairs that just wiggles off my hips as I walk now, and it's especially bad when I'm pushing the wheelchair.
The problem is, it's so hard letting them go. Along with the trousers I have a cardigan that's way too big now, and it really needs to go. Yesterday I got a new one that actually fits right, but my old one. It's kept me warm for so long, I've worn it in so many photos and occasions. I don't know if I can throw it away yet.

Date: 2017-02-19 04:19 pm (UTC)It sounds like you had a lovely birthday!
Aaaah, Hidden Figures will deffo be in my top 10 for this year. FTR, I've seen it twice at different times and days. Both times, the theater was packed too. I will forever be drawing hearts around that film (even got the book it's based on since I've heard it goes deeper than the movie!!!)
As awkward as it might be, comparison pics are a great way to gauge how much the body has changed. Obviously, the fit of clothes does too. Since we're with our body 24/7 it can be difficult to track appearance until some months down the line.
BTW, I hear you about your anxiety regarding letting go of clothes that no longer fit. Yes, they are a security blanket if sorts. Eventually, though, you will realize that you truly don't need them and can get rid of them. *Hugs you for a long time*
ETA: your face is far from stupid. #IJS

Date: 2017-02-20 08:42 am (UTC)I did have a good day. Nothing exciting, but chilled is just what I like, really.
Oh, I hope you post your review of the book. I'm interested to know if it was a good read. Which I'm sure it will be. It's just a shame Hidden Figures was released the same week as Fifty Shades here, as it's been over shadowed terribly. I hope the cinema realises people do want to watch it and show it on other screens, because I've never seen a screen be so packed. People were even filling the very front row which hardly ever happens.
I'm glad I started to take photos of myself. I never did so for the longest time, and would never have entertained the thought of posting them on here or insta, but by doing so I've this permanent reminder that things are changing. I mean, obviously, I know that but like you said, it is difficult to track until you look at photos and have that reminder.

Date: 2017-02-20 07:14 am (UTC)Do you have space to store your old clothes away somewhere for a while? I can well understand not wanting to get rid of them immediately, but sometimes putting them away can be a good intermediate stage and some other day it may feel ok to let them go entirely.

Date: 2017-02-20 08:32 am (UTC)Hidden Figures has jumped up to one of my favourite recent films. It's one I'd love to see again.
I do have room to store the old clothes away, and I think I'll do that with the cardigan especially. I don't know why that one item is so hard to give up. Probably because, at my biggest my winter coat was too tight to wear, so that cardigan was worn always. It's been my faithful warm friend for years.

Date: 2017-02-20 08:33 am (UTC)You know, that's an idea too. Just keeping it for an indoor cardigan. Extra helpful too as the more weight I drop the colder I feel.

Date: 2017-02-20 06:42 pm (UTC)Trousers are so difficult. I swear I don't know anyone who have legs of "standard length" so why are all trousers made that way?!! But at least now you know so hopefully you'll have an easier time in the future.
No, you're still obviously you :-) but the difference is indeed incredible. Go you!!! (Nice to hear that you will still get some use out of that dress - it's such a lovely one!)

Date: 2017-02-25 12:14 pm (UTC)Having extra short legs really does explain a lot. But you're right, there should be a lot more options than standard length. I know you can get different lengths but they always seem to cost more.
Thank you. I do love that dress, I'm glad I'll be able to wear it for a while yet.
