Jun. 5th, 2020 07:14 pmIt's been such a weird day today, sunshine and showers and at some points, it was actually hail stoning, which is all kinds of wrong.
We nipped out to get some groceries and Kayleigh called in when we got home. She's been making Terry's Chocolate Orange fudge and man, it's good. Incredibly rich so one piece was more than enough but very delicious.
My phone keeps sending me reminders of photos taking this time last year, which reminded me that none of the postcards I sent on holiday last year arrived. I suspect that they're still sitting in the box I posted them in, which, so much for using the service the hotel provided and getting them to add stamps. Then again, they could be travelling the world alongside the birthday card I sent to
turlough that also hasn't arrived. Though, as I sent that at the height of the postal service having issues due to COVID it could still struggle in I guess.
More for the June Something. I'm still behind but will only post one for tonight.
Who is the first character that you fell in love with?
If we go right back to the start it would be Joe Hardy from the Hardy Boys Mystery Books. I was only a bb!Terri when I discovered them so while I wasn't in love as such with the guy, man, I really liked reading about him. Blond, brash, confident, brave, impulsive, he was like catnip to a much younger me. Also, had a solid connection with his bro, Frank, not that I realised how much I actually enjoyed that until later.
I wanted to know all about Joe and bought all the books in the Mystery and then Case Files series, and even now am fond of the guy.
Next big love was Nick Boyle from Poltergeist the Legacy. It was that show that introduced me to fanfic, though at that point only gen. The show was on late at night and I always remember staying up to watch, and the episode when Nick was bitten by a vampire and I spent the next week counting down the minutes as they'd left him in pain and on death's door and OMG, how could they do that to me?! He was fine in the end and threw off the bite too easily for my liking. All that build-up for nothing. But yes, Nick was my first tv love.
My first huge fannish love was Tom Paris. I loved him so much, still do. Thinking about it he's also blond, brash, confident, impulsive and also the little black dress of Voyager fandom which meant I had so much fic to enjoy. Tom was part of the first slash pairing I ever discovered, and while I'd liked him well before that, being that first didn't hurt.

That’s sweet! And it seems you definitely have a type there! Tom is an awesome choice though

Date: 2020-06-06 03:02 pm (UTC)I suspect the postcards will turn up years from now when someone finally empties the box at the hotel reception and finds them hidden in the bottom. But that's sad you've also lost a card sent to Turlough. I guess with the mess the postal service was in for a while it's impressive that any mail reached its destination.
Tom will forever be a favourite of mine.

Date: 2020-06-06 07:56 pm (UTC)Post cards can be such a hit-or-miss. I often suspect the post office doesn't really take them seriously. I do wonder where my birthday card has gotten to. The Swedish postal service has been working normally all through this time.

*giggles* Your younger self seem to have had a TYPE!

Date: 2020-06-07 04:53 pm (UTC)I'm not annoyed about the postcards, things happen after all. It's just a shame the one time I was mega organised and got them written, stamped and sent from the hotel they never arrived. It's typical.
I suspect that your birthday card will still be in the UK somewhere. The mail was affected a lot, and in fact we still don't have Saturday deliveries yet. You may get it for Christmas yet.

Awww, babbu!T wasn't as tuned in to their BRONESS, hahahaha.
It's funny because I do remember the Poltergeist the Legacy show as well as the ST: Voyager one, but I never got around watching either. (And in a way, I'd say the window to do that has been shut close, really.) :(
Aah the stresses of watching a weekly show! Kids these days don't know how terribs that used to be! *sits back on her rocking chair*

I do laugh at myself because my love for the bros was obviously just there from the start, just I didn't realise that back then. Slash or gen, bros are like catnip to me.
I sometimes consider a rewatch of Poltergeist but suspect it won't have aged well. I'd rather keep my memories of a show that I loved and not have cold water dumped over my fond feelings.

I KNOW! It's like a different world now. Fans these days have it good, no having to buy video tapes of others fans these days. Which is what I had to do to watch The Sentinel back in the day.
