We helped move Corey to his new flat yesterday. It's great for one person with a decent size living room and bedroom, a small bathroom and the tiniest kitchen ever. Seriously, only one person will ever be able to go in it at once unless they're very friendly.

It took five car journeys from his old place to the new, and as the new flat is on the first floor, meaning two flights of stairs, by the end of the day my knees were feeling it as I helped carry things upstairs. Though, I did leave the heaviest to Corey, like the massive weights he's got. He carried both of them up at once along with something else and when I commented said the barrels he has to move around at work are even heavier.

Frustratingly, on what was my most active day for ages, my Fitbit ran out of charge halfway through the day, as I would have liked to see the final totals for steps and stairs climbed. Alas, it wasn't to be and I'll have to count them in terms of aching muscles and satisfaction of a job well done.

James got his first two appointments for the hospital today. One for next week the second the Monday after, while the two-week pathway is damn scary, I can't deny they get things done fast. We've also had the first tentative conversation about looking into early medical retirement for him. Hopefully not for a while, but we both know he's not going to be able to keep working to the actual retirement age so it's worth looking into things so we know where we stand.

I was very annoyed at my fitbit. It feels like the steps never happened if they don't get recorded.

I think it will, just things we need to get through atm to find out what's actually going on.

Oh no, how frustrating that the fitbit punked out on you! But still, hooray for getting things done, and it does sound like a lovely little place for Corey! Lucky him, a bedroom AND a living room. I think I'm jealous. *g*

His living room and bedroom are really big, and the living room has two huge windows, that have a lovely view of the garage opposite *g*

Corey's place sounds lovely! I hope he'll enjoy living there.

All best wishes for James to get the best care. And it does sound like it makes sense to think through the retirement option. There are so many things to factor into those plans - I once attended a session about it at my work and basically threw up my hands at the complexity of it, but I know sooner or later I'll have to think about it more seriously too.

Corey's new flat sounds remarkably similar to my first flat. Decent living room, a bedroom, a small bathroom, and a small kitchen. Though in mine you could actually fit at least two people and possibly even three but then they could only just stand there :-) I hope he'll be very happy there!

Stairs are the bane of moving! I get tired just reading about Corey's move! And of course your Fitbit ran out of charge, isn't that always the case?!!

All the good luck to James! And yeah, starting to think about his eventual retirement is probably a good idea. The more you know about something the less scary it usually gets. Usually. *keeps fingers crossed*

One of my knees is still feeling it now, I'm too old to do constant trips up the stairs now.

But yeah, I know it's a small thing but I do wish my fitbit hadn't gone off. It would make up for all the days I've pretty much been a slug.

Ahahaha, I love the mental image of three people being in your old kitchen, but all unable to move.

He seems to like it so far, and in terms of being on the doorstep for shops he couldn't be any closer. Plus, with being above an angling shop and a tattoo parlour, I'd imagine they wouldn't be mega busy.

Moving is so much easier with no stairs involved. Typical that his first floor flat needed two flights to get to it.

We're hoping he won't have to retire for a few years yet, but no way will he manage another 21 years to reach the actual ritirement age, and that's what it is now, it'll probably go up again at some point.

I liked Corey's new place, it's perfect for what he needs.

Yeah, I get the impression that early retirement will be complex, and hope that he won't have to deal with that for a while yet. But, at some point, it will have to happen early so it's worth these first investigations.

Good thoughts in advance for when you have to take those first steps too.
