Snowflake Challenge Day 1
Jan. 1st, 2021 04:18 pmI had a mini flurry of Christmas cards yesterday, thank you so much
misbegotten,
stallamira and
spasticat I enjoyed every single card, thank you for thinking of me ♥
After a few busy hours, the house is Christmas decoration free with 90% of boxes put away. There's still a bag left out because it's inevitable I'll have missed something, it happens every time. As always the place looks bare, but I've got the candles lit so everything still feels cosy, just in a less sparkly way.
The change of year went out almost unnoticed, especially as we were in bed before midnight. We grazed on the mini buffet and I finally watched the Christmas Bob the Streetcat film. It was cheesy, it was predictable, it made my heart clench when it showed people being happy and crowded in a Christmas market, and I loved every moment. Though again with the heart clench when the real Bob got a RIP mention at the end.
Sadly the year ended with one last bit of bad news when Kayleigh and Lucy's wedding was cancelled again. It supposed to happen in three weeks but has been in the balance since the NE was put into tier four. So, not surprising but still gutting for her, especially as goodness knows when we'll be out of this tier.
It's also the 1st so that means Snowflake Challenge number one.
Challenge #1
In your own space, introduce yourself! Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I'm going to cheat and link to the comprehensive version I posted last year which is here.
But shortish version is --
We lost Tinker last year but adopted Murphy, other than that just add a year to any numbers and I suspect the only new thing is this last year has contained a lot of The Musketeer reading for me, especially Aramis focussed reading. At this point I've probably read nearly every Musketeer story at A03, which resulted in many emails over the year saying, but why do they only eat bone broth, cheese and apples? Usually to
teigh_corvus who was often the recipient of that question.
Okay, it's not really a serious question, I know they do eat other things, just when you read a lot all at once it seems like 99% of the time it's cheese, bone broth and apples. I mean, mix it up a little, have some bread or even push the boat out and roast a rabbit.
Ahem, yeah, getting back to the challenge, the short version of that link, hi, I'm Terri, I'm a fandom old, love Aramis, Mikey Way, Clint Barton, Chris Kirkpatrick and many others. Like cats and long baths, am normally a cinema addict, but you know, 2020, go to the beach often, in other times am a regular at a handful of cat cafes, enjoy coffees from Costa and enjoy writing when I actually do it. Sadly that hasn't been often in the last few years, but I live in hope I'll get the spark back, and maybe this year actually get that h/c bingo.
And if you believe that....
I don't care if people lurk on my journal, but will always welcome anyone who wants to say hi. I also read and comment on both DW and LJ, but tend to always read DW first, simply because the vast majority of my flist are there.

Date: 2021-01-01 06:05 pm (UTC)I'm sorry to hear about the wedding. That must be really frustrating and disappointing. I hope whenever it does finally happen it will bring them all the joy.
And I'm so glad I met you, these many years ago now. ♥

Date: 2021-01-01 06:25 pm (UTC)I think we all suspected the wedding would be cancelled but never said anything as the words would have made that possibility more real. Problem is the longer we're locked down the more people miss their wedding dates and need them rearranged too. At this point, it could be months for a new date :(
That goes for me too. You're a constant supportive delight and I'm so happy we made contact back in the day ♥

Date: 2021-01-02 10:30 am (UTC)It's funny how you can end up circling people and yet they're not on your friendslist. That happened with wenchpixie too, and it was Snowflake that changed that a few years ago.
I've subscribed/gave access back and am looking forward to reading your journal.
And may I say, what an excellent icon!

Date: 2021-01-02 10:44 am (UTC)Yay, thanks, look forward to chatting to you more :)
And hah, totally used this icon deliberately as MikeyWay bait. It's mine and free for taking with credit

Date: 2021-01-02 10:35 am (UTC)It's understandable and what needed to happen but still disapointing.

Date: 2021-01-01 10:27 pm (UTC)Go you for the motivated undecorating! Sounds like you got it all done.

Date: 2021-01-02 10:36 am (UTC)I'd say 99% done as I still have a Santa hanging on the curtain rail *g*

Date: 2021-01-01 10:43 pm (UTC)I do not get the obession with bone broth anywhere at all, it's just stock after all (proper stock, but still).
You are a WHIZZ with the decorations, stg. I'll get mine done before I go back to work on Tuesday (extra bank holiday up here), but probably at the last minute.

Date: 2021-01-02 10:41 am (UTC)At this point the bone broth thing makes me laugh when I see it in fic. It's like the Musketeer fandom collectively decided if anyone is sick or injured they must be given bone broth afterwards.
I always try to get the decorations down on New Years Day, and it makes things much easier that I now have a dedicated cupboard in the spare room to keep them in. Being organised helps, go figure.

Date: 2021-01-02 12:26 am (UTC)That’s a shame it’s got cancelled, I hope it’s just a short delay (but the way things are...)
Yay for snowflake ❄️ *hugs(

Date: 2021-01-02 10:43 am (UTC)Yeah, I can't see it being a short delay. I suspect it'll be a few months at least :(
Snowflake is so great, even if I did forget to actually link this response yesterday /o\

Date: 2021-01-02 12:33 pm (UTC)This is one of the best New Year greetings ever.
Thank you!

Date: 2021-01-02 03:34 pm (UTC)This past year has been such a disappointment for so many people with major events, such as weddings, and so sad for all who have lost someone and not been able to get together to remember them. The way the numbers are going up I can't see us leaving Tier 4 for a while, unless we're locked down completely. There are still too many people breaking the rules, certainly around here (East Anglia) with their parties, raves, outings to the seaside or national parks.
Here's hoping 2021 will be better and their wedding will be able to go ahead before too long. My best wishes to them :)

Date: 2021-01-03 04:15 pm (UTC)They must all be awesome people too, then!
I have three rescue cats. The oldest, Milo, is 18 so have a fist bump of old rescue cat owner solidarity.
Yeah, I can't see us leaving Tier 4 for a while either. The numbers are terrifying still and continue to go up. I suspect a full lockdown is in the future.
Thank you, it's my sister and her partner who want to get married. It was cancelled last year as she was covid positive and now this.

Date: 2021-01-02 08:15 pm (UTC)Bone broth... ha, I can't even be a smartass about it at the moment, because even typing the words make me laugh. But by all means, continue sending me the emails so we can seriously debate this trope.
You've already put the hols to bed?! Wow. I'm still enjoying my tree, so it's going to be a while before get out the storage bins.
Aw man, poor Kayleigh and Lucy. That sucks. But I don't think this is a curse... well, not one specific to *them* anyway. At least all of the shenanigans will make for a good story in the future> :D?

Date: 2021-01-03 04:31 pm (UTC)I had such a laugh last night because I'd posted this and went for my usual fic read in the bath. Saw a new Musketeer story posted, Aramis got stabbed, and what did he get to eat while recovering? Apple slices and cheese. He was obviously not injured enough for bone broth.
Yeah, I tend to decorate on the 1st of December and take everything down the 1st of January. But I do like the idea that trees are still out there, shining away and making people happy.
True, not a curse as such. Kayleigh's just frustrated at cancelling once due to having COVID and now this due to restrictions. But, the wedding will happen and she's very happy with Lucy while waiting, which ultimately is all that matters.

Date: 2021-01-03 08:06 pm (UTC)Poor Kayleigh & Lucy! I feel so sorry for them.
Bone broth???? *wikis* Oh, it's just an other name for stock! Why do people call it that? It sounds quite unappetising.
Let's keep our fingers crossed the coming year will be SO MUCH BETTER than the last!

Date: 2021-01-04 07:36 am (UTC)I feel for Lucy and Kayleigh too. At this point, I don't know if it's better for them to have a new date with something to look forward to or to not have one in case it's taken away again due to more restrictions.
I have no idea why it's called bone broth, and I agree it does sound very unappetising. By all accounts, it's good stuff when you're ill and need building up, but even so, I'll pass.
I really hope so. It surely can't get worse.

Date: 2021-01-04 08:55 am (UTC)Anyway, yes, definitely a nice idea to start the day with :)

Date: 2021-01-04 05:34 pm (UTC)And, most importantly, like how Clint is absolutely, 100% strong enough to hold Mikey up against a wall and keep him there. Archer's muscles, you know?
Dead. So dead. Thank you for that mental image!

Date: 2021-01-04 06:33 pm (UTC)Sadly, we appear to be unique in appreciating this, since as far as I can tell, no-one has yet crossed over these two fandoms. Clearly a grave oversight and a crying shame.

Date: 2021-01-04 01:34 pm (UTC)I'm sorry about Kayleigh's wedding! It's not surprising, but man is it a drag.

Date: 2021-01-04 04:16 pm (UTC)Yeah, not surprising at all. But I do feel for them :(
