I was out for a walk earlier, and got caught in thundersnow! It's always weird when it happens and everything got a bit dramatic with claps of thunder and a sudden really heavy shower of snow. Until that point, it had been the nice fat flakes coming down and I'd been enjoying walking through new crunchy snow, but the thundersnow type was like needles, and I was resembling a snow person by the time I got home.
It's weird having snow that keeps sticking when we do get snow it quickly tends to turn to slush or ice, so this constant layer is strange but pretty. Not that you'd think there was much looking at the photos taken in town because the grit had done its job nicely. I was amazed that someone had been up and gritted the bridge out of the estate, though they'd literally only done the bridge, the steps or ramps to get down hadn't been touched.

And ha, I've just been watching Pugsy Malone, the pug that lives in the house opposite. He's running around the garden and doesn't seem sure about this snow thing, especially when it touches his belly *g*
We had the man out last night for the government energy efficiency grant. Because James gets PIP and we're homeowners we can get a grant to make our house more energy efficient. I was hoping we could get new widows as some of ours are really draughty. Sadly because they're double glazed, even if very bad double glazing, that wasn't an option. So, instead for our first stage, we're getting underfloor insulation and a thermal heater for the water and the radiators updated, then the second stage a brand new boiler.
The man who came out was good, masked at all times, as were we, and worked out what would be the best improvements for us. So now it's just a case of waiting to see start dates, hopefully when James is off due to the amount of potential cat wrangling. Because yeah, if any cat will get under the floor it'll be Murphy.
From a flist rec I've started to watch Soulmates on Amazon today. I've only seen the first ep so far but it kept my attention and was interesting to see the trope on screen.

Date: 2021-02-10 05:37 pm (UTC)Aww that pug sounds so cute!
Aww Murphy! I remember when we have people round for stuff, Midna just disappears into hide mode

I wish Murphy would hide like Midna. He likes to be into everything, stranger or not.

Date: 2021-02-11 12:24 pm (UTC)I do wish we could have replaced the windows, but it was a total no go due to having double glazing already. We bought the house from the council and I'm sure they put in the cheapest windows possible, you can see the blinds moving due to drafts on many of them.

Date: 2021-02-11 12:27 pm (UTC)I hadn't even heard of thermal heaters until the guy told us about them. But, they sound like a good option.

Date: 2021-02-11 08:34 am (UTC)Thundersnow sounds both startling and painful. Ouch!
New radiators etc. sound like a fine thing, even if you couldn't have your first choice.
Also, I have never met Murphy but I feel utterly confident that yes, he will get under the floor given the least opportunity.

Date: 2021-02-11 12:38 pm (UTC)The thundersnow really was startling. It has its own kind of sound, no rumbles, just a sudden sharp crash.
Oh, Murphy would be under the floor in an instant, so when they're here no way will he be anywhere near any holes in the floor.

Date: 2021-02-13 06:45 pm (UTC)So strange that they'd only gritted the bridge! How did they think people would reach it??!!
Your town is looking very pretty in the snow!
Aww, poor Pugsy! Snow touching his tender belly!
How silly that just because your windows are double glazed they don't care how drafty they are. Not very energy efficient at all, I don't think! But new insulation and thermal heater and then a new boiler all sounds awesome. Lots of good luck with the installations! And the cat wrangling :-)

Date: 2021-02-19 04:35 pm (UTC)I wish I knew their thought process in terms of the bridge. Even if they'd gritted the ramps and steps on one side it would make more sense because that side is a retail area while our side is on;y housing. As it is, it looks like someone came with grit, and didn't bother putting any down apart from the actual bridge part. So weird.
The town does look pretty, though that is the picturesque end, the other end of the street is all shops.
I laughed so much at Pugsy, he wasn't impressed at all.
Getting new windows would be the best energy-saving solution for our house. It makes no sense that they're discounted due to having them already, especially as they were installed so badly.
