Jan. 16th, 2022 03:55 pmWe went to Re.F.Use for breakfast yesterday, the first time since before Christmas.
They had Waste Not Boxes available but we both said we wouldn't get one as we've got plenty in the house. Then James saw king prawns on top of one of the boxes and the next thing I know he was ordering one at the counter and a volunteer was putting a big crate full of food on our table.
It's not the best box we've had from there. Well worth the money they charge but some things that will end up being given away. Along with the prawns, there were trout fillets, chicken legs, eggs, loads of veggies, loads of fruit, courgettii, cauli rice, a big cup of ready-made cold coffee like you get in supermarkets, bread, a little panettone, two marzipan logs, a big jar of sweet mincemeat, and a tray of veal which surprised me and I have no idea what to do with. I also got some things from the community fridge so went out well stocked.
After that, we went to Durham , had a mooch around and ended up in the market square for a while, before heading to the cinema where we saw West Side Story. I really enjoyed it, but it's been so long since I saw the original that I'd forgotten just how bleak a story it actually is.
That walk also cemented that I need to get in touch with the lymph clinic as my wraps are goosed. They'll stay up if I'm just pottering in the house but any actual walking and they lose all compression and slip down. Yesterday I had to rewrap one leg after leaving Re.F.Use and the other when we reached Durham. That time I even bought some elastic plaster tape to see if that would help keep them up, and nope.
So yeah, a call will have to happen tomorrow.

Date: 2022-01-16 04:31 pm (UTC)I remember going to see West Side Story in the local theatre—the stage show, not the film. My daughter's friend had not seen musicals before and was very impressed. It is a great show, but, well.
I hope you get those wraps sorted.

Date: 2022-01-16 05:30 pm (UTC)That I can do, thanks for the suggestion.
I do like the Waste Not Boxes but beyond getting a vegetarian one or meat-eaters one you never know what you're getting beyond the top layer. So, the veal really was a surprise.
I'd like to see West Side Story at the theatre too, I imagine it's very involving.
The wraps are driving me crazy right now. Because they cost so much I'm supposed to get one set every 6 months, but my lymph nurse said because I wear them religiously and try to walk as much as possible I should really get them every three months as the velcro isn't fit for purpose after that. If he can't get them to go to the shorter time I'll have to switch back to the knee high sock compressions because I can't be doing with constantly adjusting the stupid things.

Date: 2022-01-25 04:59 pm (UTC)It's such a good place.
Last time we were there they'd renamed the fridge at the back of the cafe as a community fridge. So, hopefully, it'll take the stigma away for the people who were reluctant to take from it.

Date: 2022-01-17 03:26 pm (UTC)I actively disliked Riff at times, but also found him really sad and tragic. His whole life seemed to be tied into being a Jet needing their loyalty always but also seemingly craving a family. He seemed so resigned when he was stabbed, like he always knew it was a matter of time.
And Anita, yes. She was so incredibly strong and it amazes me she had the capacity to have her husband's/partner's killer be in her home and then let him go. I really hope she goes on to do great things.

Date: 2022-01-17 03:37 pm (UTC)OMG, Anita! ♥ I just loved everything about her and the actress who played her. In some ways, I think this version humanized the characters more than the original. Here it made sense that Tony had anger issues and would stab Bernardo for killing Riff. And Anita was so complex in her love for both Bernardo, but also for Maria that her actions seemed plausible. So good.

Date: 2022-01-17 10:46 am (UTC)I'm not a big meat eater at all so I'm not the best at cooking it. So something easy is always best.

Date: 2022-01-17 04:46 pm (UTC)I've never cooked veal myself but I suspect you could use it for pretty much any meat dish. It should be pretty similar to beef but less intense in flavour. I would probably end up using it either for stew or for soup, but then I'm not a big fan of plain meat.
The wraps slipping down sounds incredibly annoying so I hope you'll get new ones asap.

Date: 2022-01-25 05:01 pm (UTC)It was a good haul, some things I'd normally not buy, but that can be a good thing.
I'm not a fan of meat at all really so went for the frying it method in the end. James said it was okay but I wouldn't go out and buy it.
I'm looking forward to new wraps, or going back to the knee highs. At least they stay up.

Date: 2022-01-25 04:33 pm (UTC)It really was. I dropped off some of the sweet stuff that would keep in the food bank collection basket in Lidl because I knew we'd never eat it. The rest got eaten or frozen.
The wraps are really annoying me now. I have an appointment in a few weeks and it can't come soon enough.
