Mar. 12th, 2022 08:36 amMy MiL went home yesterday.
It was actually a good visit, though I did feel myself relax when I walked through the door last night and there was no hosting to do, room to spread out on the couch and I knew I'd be able to put the furniture back into place today.
Over the week we had some lovely drives out, took her for dinner on Thursday and she was happy to stay here with a lunch I'd left and just watch tv on the two days James had hospital appointments so all went as well as it could.
I also managed to make a big dent in the Station 19 episodes I have recorded. It's a show that I forget how much I enjoy watching until I watch it again, then end up binge-watching. This time, because my natural wake up time is around 6am and my MiL was sleeping on the couch until later than that I managed a couple of eps every morning. A little intense for so early, but enjoyable.
James' hospital appointments also went okay, nothing sinister was seen in the procedure though he does still have kidney stones/fragments and there's a possibility of more tests to check other things that may be causing the issues but the doctors need to discuss his case first as the symptoms are easing. But, that's something for the future.
He also got a new splint for his leg which is taking him a while to get used to.
I still haven't got my compression wraps and if I think of all the calls and doctor's visits I've had to make the last week about them I'd want to bang my head against my desk. Long story short, I need a tall length, the doctor and chemist said they didn't exist in the new compression strength the lymph clinic had prescribed. Two sets were ordered which would be too short, which didn't make the practice happy as they're expensive. So I called the lymph clinic who confirmed yes I needed tall, and they'd take over talking to the practice. In the end, the practice had to call the manufacturer of the wraps who said a tall was actually a long which was why no one could find it so that has been ordered, and I should get them a month after my appointment. Now to find out if that's actually true or I'll end up with something that only goes to mid-shin.
Fannish niece is working in Newcastle this weekend so came home on Thursday until Monday. I had to laugh as once my MiL found that out she was ready to go home on Thursday but of course couldn't as the wet room wasn't finished. It was lovely to see how excited my MiL was to see her though.
FN brought belated Christmas presents for everyone, including me and James which was a lovely surprise. While she did it in a dramatic and wrong way it does seem like moving out has suited her nicely and she's happy with where she is now.
Like many people, I've been importing communities from LJ to DW. My personal journal was imported years ago but I had a few comms I ran over there. I started with Sparkly Glee, the happy fic popslash challenge and that's now on here, except the stories themselves were posted on my co mods journal on LJ and linked to from the comm. They're still there so can be accessed from the backed up comm and hopefully, they'll stay that way as I'm struggling with the netiquette of saving and reposting myself as my co-mod is long gone from the journalling world.

Date: 2022-03-12 08:54 pm (UTC)And I hope the doctors can figure out what can do James the most good. Your wraps sound like the most horrendous saga! They better get you something usable pronto!
It's very melancholy to think of things disappearing. My outlook would be that stories that were posted for public sharing on a community ought to be ok to repost as part of a general backup of the community. But I can understand wanting to be thoughtful about what you choose to do there.

Date: 2022-03-13 08:24 am (UTC)The wrap situation is dragging so long. I should get them in the next few days but I'm still half expecting to put them on and finding they're too short.

That's what I'm leaning toward right now. Normally it feels all wrong to even think about saving a fic and reposting it, but we were given permission to post at the time, and there are a nice handul of stories that would otherwise be lost.
Actually, one belongs to you but under your old name. I'll message you about it.

Date: 2022-03-13 08:26 am (UTC)I have no idea if we'll all need to download our LJ content but the way I look at it, why take the chance? Things are so volatile right now the site could easily go down.
Thankfully importing wasn't that bad, just a bit frustrating when the import failed a few times.

Date: 2022-03-13 01:37 pm (UTC)Frustration on the wraps front though. It's so irritating when the bureaucracy goes so dreadfully wrong (also, communication is king. If you can't find the thing you're supposed to be ordering, maybe ask?). Fingers crossed it's finally sorted!

Date: 2022-03-14 04:44 pm (UTC)It really is. I am comfortable with her, but it's lovely having my own space.
I hope it is sorted. I get a text from the doctor's today asking what I thought of how they'd dealt with the issue and have put it to one side before I reply they're all incompetent idiots, because normally I like everyone at the practice.
I should be able to pick up tomorrow, so fingers crossed I have the right product and size.

Date: 2022-03-14 04:39 pm (UTC)I've been in touch with the people still active in the fandom about their stories so have a start at getting everything together anyway.

I feel frustrated just hearing about your trouble with those wraps! I really hope you'll get the right sort delivered this time!
I'm always sad when fic disappear from the net so I'm very glad to hear you've been in contact with the writers and have started to repost the stories. Hopefully the worst-case scenarios won't happen and LJ will still be there in the future but if it's always good to be prepared.

Date: 2022-03-24 05:16 pm (UTC)If you mean having all the online time I want and not making countless drinks and meals, yeah I am *g*
Well as you know I have the Big Bird wraps now, but I still can't believe it took so long to get them. Talk about frustration!
I suspect LJ will stay so maybe I didn't need to back up the stories, but I guess better safe than sorry.
