I was waiting for my appointment yesterday when a person-sized teddy bear walked by the waiting area. It was quite a surprise looking up and seeing that. Talking to the volunteer driver on the way home it turns out St Benedicts has its own mascot and I assume must have been going to see someone in the actual inpatient bit. The teddy waved at me when it went by, so of course, I had to wave back as I was the only person there. Then it came back and waved again. Then came back and waved once more for good luck.

Today Sunderland are playing in the play-off final down at Wembley, so James has gone to The Stack to watch the game along with all my in-laws. I don't mind watching football but they were having to go for 10 to get a table, and the kick-off isn't until 3, so I would have given it a pass even without my clown feet. Still, I hope they win, so I'm listening via the radio and, ha'way the lads!

I was catching up on Taskmaster and Chris' sausage cement mixer creased me up. This really has been a fantastic season so far. I enjoy all the contestants, even the ones I didn't know at all at the start.

Yay for teddy bears and good luck!

I would not have wanted to sit that long, omg! I would've been 'peopled out' after a couple of hours.

of course you had to wave at the teddy!

that sausage cement mixer cracked me up - I just finished Series 11, so have some to go before I get to the current series, but obviously it's still as lunatic as the previous ones

Having a person-sized teddy bear stroll by does seem like a surprising, yet fun, thing to happen. Mascots are special sorts of people, bearing that confinement in the outfit, and having to be friendly all the time. I'm sure the teddy bear appreciated the wave back. *G*

I'm quite partial to Benjamin Cat and Fredbird, as far as mascots go.

Yes, Benjamin Cat is the one from Impractical Jokers that's always chasing Sal around. Why Sal runs from a person in a cat suit is beyond me (but funny). It cracks me up when his punishment is to be surrounded by cats...and he's frightened. Especially the times they put him in with kittens. How are kittens scary?

Fredbird is a red cardinal mascot of our Cardinals baseball team. I remember once his head got stolen, and man what an uproar! Everyone was outraged to be without our mascot and the head was soon quietly returned unharmed.

There were Sunderland fans gathering in Trafalgar Square on Friday night, getting stuck in to a good 24 hours of pre-gaming ;) That's some commitment to get a table to enjoy it with friends - I hope the match was worth it!

I like to think I'm as fond of teddy bears as the next person, but having one my height walk by would definitely startle me too!

I get the appeal of pregame socializing also, but five hours early feels like I'd be worn out before the game started. Google tells me the game should have made James happy - congrats to all cheering for that win!

*giggles* Your encounter with the person-sized teddy bear sounds so much fun!

I see in comments that Sunderland won and that James had a great time, yay!
