Oct. 15th, 2022 08:20 amMilo was supposed to have his nails clipped yesterday, but all the clinical staff from the vets he goes to have come down with Covid so they had to cancel everyone's appointments. He's booked in for Tuesday now, and hopefully no more tip-tapping by Tuesday night.
Kayleigh, Lucy and Bodhi arrived back from Butlins yesterday too, so no more cat-looking-after duties for me. It was supposed to be once a day but ended up morning and night. They only live a five-minute drive away so it wasn't a hard thing to do but did mean the evening visit I went there in my PJs a few times. Sadly, one night, someone came into the garden and took her firepit, they left the grate and lid so I have a feeling it was a scrap man as the firepit was big and heavy. Thankfully, none of Bodhi's outside toys or garden furniture had been taken, but it did stress them out a little while they were away.
James is doing much better. He could take the pressure dressing off on Monday and now has a normal dressing on, just to ensure the wound stays dry and clean. This leads to fussing when I have to change it as part of the dressing is on his beard line so doesn't stick well. At which point I'm mean wife and just whip the dressing off when it curls at one end. He's also tried to frighten the life out of me by attempting to pick something off the floor from standing -- which was never going to go well -- unbalanced and bashed his head on the fireplace. And then despite me telling him to be careful of the uneven floor when getting out of the car, tripped up and fell, very thankfully, landing against the car itself. But omg, be careful!
Thursday we met Pauline and her daughter for lunch at the local walk-in clinic, so we're getting out and about locally again.
Nothing has changed kitchen-wise, but we have had a quote for the flooring, and that guy said to get at least another quote before accepting his, so another man was here yesterday and we're waiting for his quote too.
The Lion King touring production is coming to our local theatre next spring and I'm dithering over buying tickets. I've got the early access link and am so tempted because it looks like a great show and I really do enjoy going to the theatre.
I'm still watching House of the Dragon but each time it ends I have to look up recaps to find out what the hell is going on, and the time jumps don't help. I'm still enjoying it but TV should not be so complicated.

Date: 2022-10-15 03:29 pm (UTC)if you can, you should go to the show. my parents came up with my sister and Steph many many years ago and saw a touring production off The Lion King, and really enjoyed it. my dad even bought himself a little plushie for some reason, which mom mentioned in passing the other day. I'm guessing she's going to give it to Charlie

Date: 2022-10-15 04:03 pm (UTC)I like getting recommendations from people I trust so am glad to know your family enjoyed the show. I like that your dad bought the plushie, like he wanted to remember the show. I think I will book, especially as this early there are still some really good seats.

Date: 2022-10-15 10:36 pm (UTC)I'm glad James is improving, but yes, be careful!
My parents took us all out to the theatre version of The Lion King for their 50th anniversary - Dad rented a limo-bus that carried the 18-20 of us, then picked us up after the show. That was especially nice! But yeah, if you enjoy theatre, it's definitely a good production to see.

Date: 2022-10-16 02:41 pm (UTC)I couldn't believe James fell twice in the space of a couple of days. The last thing he needs is a broken arm.
You've joined the list of people I trust who have seen The Lion King and enjoyed it, so I'm going to book tickets for sure. I love the idea of the limo bus, too.

Date: 2022-10-16 07:40 am (UTC)That sucks that the firepit was stolen. I know these types of things tend to be signs of hard times overall, but it still is crappy to be the target of it.
I'm glad to hear of James progressing in healing. But indeed, the risk of attempting too much too soon is not to be taken lightly!
And I will join the chorus saying I saw a touring production of The Lion King some years ago and enjoyed it a lot. So if you can swing it without causing yourselves hardship elsewhere, it's definitely a great show.

Date: 2022-10-16 02:39 pm (UTC)Yeah, it does suck. Kayleigh's house is good in one way as it's on the main road with a bus stop and a busy pub opposite, so always overlooked that side. But at the back in an unlit alley with a dead end and her house is at the end so anyone up to no good wouldn't be seen at that side. I'm just glad they didn't take anything else.
Doing too much too soon is always a risk with James. He feels good, and full of energy and then attempts too much and ends up napping all afternoon. But, it is getting better. He just needs patience.
That's great to know about Lion King. Everyone who I've talked to recommends it, so I think I'm going for it. It'll be something to look forward to next year.

Date: 2022-10-16 07:52 pm (UTC)Sounds like James is well enough to be getting properly frustrated with the recovery, that's a good sign but so tough when he's not taking the care that he probably should <3
Sounds like the flooring guy is a good egg, it must all really be coming together now <3

Date: 2022-10-17 11:38 am (UTC)James is feeling so much better, a lot because the threat of a potentially cancerous growth that's been hanging around for months is gone, but also because physically he is recovering. But that does lead to him pushing himself too much and then needing to nap in the afternoons. It's such a delicate balance still.
I liked the flooring guy told us to go out and get other quotes. He seems nice and his quote was cheaper so I suspect we'll go with him. I'd love to think it was all done soon.

Date: 2022-10-18 06:15 pm (UTC)What a crappy thing to happen during their holiday!
It's so good to hear James is healing up so well! But yes, tell him to be more careful with himself, please?!
Good luck with the flooring!

Date: 2022-10-19 09:07 am (UTC)Yeah, it was a horrible thing to happen but could have been so much worse. But I guess the people who steal metal don't really have a need for kids toys, even if they are expensive outside kinds.
James does need to be more careful. He's terrible for pushing himself too much too soon.
Thank you. The second quote was much more expensive so I suspect we'll be going with the first guy.

Date: 2022-10-24 07:48 am (UTC)It was scary, though from what they said at the actual visit none were really ill, so I guess it shows the vaccines do work even if the virus is still there and still highly contagious.
Masks aren't needed anywhere here now, even in the hospital it's a personal choice and it's very rare you see anyone wearing them. We still wear them visiting my MiL, for both her safety and hers. I'm actually surprised that it's not a rule they have to be worn, but nope.
Why did you end up going twice a day? Did the other person have to back out?
No, they still went but due to work they couldn't go in the evening so went late afternoon instead. That wouldn't be an issue but one of the cats is weird and won't use a litter tray, instead she uses puppy pads left on the floor and Kayleigh didn't want that left out for what would have been well over 12 hours before we would change the pad in the morning.
That cat used to belong to mam and was a rescue before mam got her so she's had a bit of a traumatic life. She's loving, and of course, was mam's cat so it never crossed our minds to get rid of her. But it has to be said, she's got some quirks.
Oh, we will buy tickets for the play, that's inevitable *g*

Date: 2022-10-24 12:53 am (UTC)Did you book Lion King in the end? I love the theatre, I miss the theatre and wish to live vicariously thought other people's enjoyment of it :)

Date: 2022-10-24 07:38 am (UTC)He could do with one. In the past friends have said he needs a bubble wrap suit, and they're not wrong.
Sadly I haven't booked for Lion King yet, mainly because it's so horrible actually getting through to the access line. I think it may be you I've talked about this before but I hate that you can only book carer tickets via the phone, and then of course actually getting someone to answer your call turns into an endless wait. It's frustrating as the early access code would have got us some amazing seats.
But, I will be booking, I will get through at some point because I miss the theatre too.
