Oct. 31st, 2022 10:11 amFor the first time in nearly a fortnight we got mail today, including something from
pensnest ♥
I assume they must have brought in outside contractors as the guy delivering wasn't wearing a postal uniform, he just looked like someone off the street, but with a very bulging mailbag.
My MiL was moved to a ward yesterday, still on the heart unit but at least she'll have other patients to talk to now. The move does mean a change in possible visiting times, instead of 45 minutes for two people between one and five, it's now an hour visit between 3-4 and 6-7. But, another step forward.
The vet phoned about Milo not long ago, and agreed it sounded like it was arthritis and he'd need painkillers but said due to his advanced age it was better to see him in person, and all I could think was, you think? That should have been obvious from the first.
That means tomorrow goes like this. B12 at the doctor at 10:30, off to the hospice for bandaging at 11:30, leave there no doubt hobbling like a mummy to try and catch Milo to get him to the vet for 2. As the vet and hospice are in the same general area I guess we could take Milo to the appointment and James stay with him in the car, but that doesn't seem fair to Milo. Though I suppose he could come out of his carrier and hang with James in the backseat while I'm away.
Also this morning I did a kitchen post including photos. Since Photobucket went to paid I've used LJ's scrapbook for hosting photos but the new editing interface is unusable now so I really need to find somewhere else. I know DW has photo hosting but the last time I used that it wasn't as easy as using scrapbook. But now scrapbook is borked I guess I need a revisit.
So you're all spared that post for now *g*

Date: 2022-11-01 06:45 am (UTC)You're the second person to mention imgur so I'm going to check that out later. I know you post a lot of photos and I've always seen them all so I know it's a good rec.

Date: 2022-11-01 06:43 am (UTC)I think the second car will make a huge difference to Kayleigh and Lucy, at some points they were having to take Bodhi out at 10pm to pick each other up from a shift, then go to work the next morning and it was just a lot. So hopefully, this will take a lot of pressure off. Because you're right, they are good together normally.
Also, I don't know how far you read back but I want to say thank you again for the reassurances at our meet-up that what James was getting tested for would probably be nothing life-threatening due to the lack of urgency. It was what I'd told myself since the start of waiting but the worry was still always present, just not stated out loud. So to have you agree and say the words meant so much. So, thank you.

Date: 2022-11-01 02:45 am (UTC)Good news on MiL. We take the wins where we get them

Date: 2022-11-01 06:36 am (UTC)Yeah, that is a win for my MiL, she was also getting a bit testy yesterday which also shows she's feeling better. So I guess that's also a win.

Date: 2022-11-01 07:48 am (UTC)Continued good wishes for your MiL! I hope she enjoys having more bed neighbors to pass the time with.
And here's hoping everything goes smoothly tomorrow for both you and Milo!
I can't wait to see the new kitchen look!

Date: 2022-11-01 08:46 am (UTC)I suspect next time I see my MiL she'll know all about her bed neighbours and why they're all in there. She'll have missed having people to talk to apart from the medical staff who obviously can't stay too long.
I'm getting some internet time in before starting the day, which will be a lot of driving and appointments. Roll on late afternoon.

Date: 2022-11-01 08:50 am (UTC)Over here, we have a product called MSM. (Methylsulfonylmethane) It comes in pill form for humans, and a crystallized powder form for animals, and is quite effective for arthritis.
I've used on two horses, three dogs, and myself, and we all responded positively. (Were able to quit limping.) Some formulations mix it with glucosamine chondroitin, which is supposed to boost the cartilage and keep it supple, but the plain MSM worked just fine for my animals.
It doesn't work for everyone, but when it does, it works very well. I asked my vet, back when I started giving it to my horse, and he said he considered it as important as bute (horse aspirin) for treating aches and pains.
It doesn't take much; I gave the horses 1/2 teaspoon twice a day. For an animal Milo's size, probably a literal pinch between finger and thumb would be enough, sprinkled on top of his food. A friend got a salt shaker just for the MSM, and gave it a couple of shakes over the dog's food. Here's an example; you may also be able to get it from the vet, or from an animal feed store if you have any nearby. A jar that size would probably last him the rest of his life.
Anyway good luck. Sorry I read this so late (almost 3 A.M for me); I expect you won't see this before you talk to the vet, but maybe you can discuss it over the phone if you need to.

Date: 2022-11-02 07:08 pm (UTC)That's good to hear about your MiL. It must have been so dreary for her all alone and without even a window!
I hope all the appointments went well yesterday!
I find DW's photo hosting complicated too and only use it very sparingly, but I have plenty of online space through my ISP so I've never looked for an alternative. I hope you manage to find a solution that will work for you!

Date: 2022-11-03 04:03 pm (UTC)My MiL hated being in that windowless room, especially she started to feel better. As well as the company of other people on the ward she's also right next to the window now. So that's a step up.
A lot of people have mentioned imgr so I'm going to check that out. It's frustrating because despite its faults LJs scrapbook has been perfect for me and I found it so easy to use. Now it's fine if you want to post directly to LJ, but finding the code for other sites is almost impossible.
