Dec. 2nd, 2022 08:02 amJames' birthday went quite nicely yesterday.
The day started slowly as we needed to wait in for two appointments. First, the man who was coming out to change some of the equipment I use for my long-term tv/computer usage survey. He arrived at around 10 and left at 11. Then the builder to assess the bedroom ceiling.
It turns out that not only are they going to replace the whole ceiling, but skim it and redecorate the whole room afterwards, including painting and wallpapering. All we have to do is pick colours and what wallpaper and they'll do the rest. They would have also put down the carpet which would have saved money for fitting, but as we didn't know that we've already claimed as part of the contents side of things.
They phoned later in the day with a schedule for the work which is the 12th for electrical, 13th for plastering, 21st for decorating, 22nd for more decorating and the electrician coming back again. I did say after the call that I was a bit disappointed they wouldn't be out earlier, and James pointed out that the first appointment was just a week and a few days away, at which point I had a little internal panic I still have so many things to do for Christmas as well as in the house.
In that time we also have to arrange to get the bed delivered and a carpet fitted but I have no idea when to do that or even if I can get a fitter to come so soon. Ideally, the bed would come last, so hopefully, we can get that arranged for the 23rd and keep our fingers crossed everything happens to plan.
My MiL also asked yesterday if she could come to stay from the 27th until the 2nd Jan as my SiL and her family are visiting other family then. So a very people full month.
Once those people had been in the morning we had to go to my In-Laws to pick up James' cards then we went out for a meal at Prego, a very nice restaurant at the seafront. I've taken
tara there in the past and it has a nice feel to the place. Unlike previous times though we were seated in the restaurant area and not the bar, and were called sir and madam, which was very strange to hear. The food was delicious though.
From there we drove into town for the theatre, and as we were early James had himself an hour car nap as I messed on my phone and watched the rides arrive and be set up in the nearby winter village.
White Christmas was good, and it snowed on the audience at the end! I was thrilled with that. It wasn't a standout and I doubt I'd go and see it again, but it was good, cheesy fun and the audience were encouraged to sing along to White Christmas at the end and it all felt very festive.
The not-so-good of the day, Bodhi ended up being admitted to hospital. I think I've said before but she's got a cyst under her tongue and that sometimes breaks out through her chin. The hospital are aware but said they wouldn't do anything until she was older. Well, the night before yesterday it had swollen up so much she couldn't eat, swallow or drink and was pushing her tongue back. Kayleigh and Lucy took her to the kids A&E and she was admitted, had a GA and had 30ml of infected fluid drained. She's much better now but will probably stay in today for observation, then next year will have a bigger op to actually remove the thing.
Kayleigh had been messaging all day, and it was such a relief to get the video message of Bodhi eating a sandwich back on the ward, the poor little thing must have been so sore and so hungry.
The insurance money cleared last night so today we need to go pay off the bed, pick a carpet, wallpaper and paint. And have vague plans to see Matilda at the cinema, though that may have to be bumped to the weekend.

Date: 2022-12-02 09:21 am (UTC)Glad James had a pleasant birthday. A show where the audience gets snowed on does sound like fun!
Poor little Bodhi! That sounds very horrid.

Date: 2022-12-03 09:03 am (UTC)The bedroom situation isn't the best. I need to get things moved up there so I can at least get to the cupboard where I store the Christmas stuff.
He did. Thank you from him.

Date: 2022-12-03 09:08 am (UTC)There was a worry Bodhi would have to have another GA this morning to take out a drain, but Kayleigh just messaged to say they did it without. This morning Bodhi was nil by mouth as they debated what to do, but is now sitting happily eating raspberries which is lovely to see.

Date: 2022-12-04 07:25 pm (UTC)Sounds like it was a very nice birthday for James, yay! (I should totally start calling you Madam Terri ;-)
Oh no, poor Bodhi!! It must have been so scary for her. I hope she won't have to suffer like that again.

Date: 2022-12-05 09:07 am (UTC)OMG, Madam Terri sounds so wrong. When I go back I'm going to ask to sit in the bar side which is much more informal.
It must have been horrible for Bodhi, at least the doctors have rushed the appointment forward now and have realised it's not something that can be left until she's older.

Date: 2022-12-05 05:59 pm (UTC)Yay for getting the bedroom ceiling sorted! It's a shame it can't be done sooner, but I'm glad it's getting all done.
I'm so glad Bodhi is picking up, the poor wee soul <3

Date: 2022-12-07 02:57 pm (UTC)It is a lot, and now we've the carpet being fitted on the 23rd. If all goes to plan things will be finished and then the day after will be Christmas eve, so busy again.

Date: 2022-12-07 03:07 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm looking forward to having my own bedroom again. I do wish it all wasn't happening just before Christmas but it can't be helped.
Bodhi is so much better, at least chin and cyst wise. She's now got a virus which Kayleigh suspects was picked up at the hospital.

Date: 2022-12-08 04:15 pm (UTC)Thankfully we've managed to get the carpet fitter to come on the 23rd. N ow I just have to hope nothing goes wrong and causes a delay on any of the days.
The snow falling on the audience was great. I knew it happened in the main show but wasn't sure about the touring production. It didn't last long but was magic when it did.
