Dec. 19th, 2022 12:02 pmIt's nearly Snowflake Challenge time. I'll be helping to mod again, and encourage anyone to check out the comm. It's such a chill and low-pressure challenge.

After not seeing her since early 2020, last week I went with Kayleigh and Bodhi to see my aunt. It was such a lovely and comfy visit, I love going to see my aunt and being fussed over and being called lamb. Some of you may remember my aunt is a huge Christmas fan. Her house and garden are decorated beautifully, though I laughed when she said she'd cut back a bit as she used to have Christmas trees in each bedroom too. Now it's only decorated downstairs, the garden, the hallway upstairs and down, the bathroom, and the kitchen. You get the picture.
I don't know if people will be able to see it, but there's a short video here if you would like to see.
My aunt also loves a bargain, and giving those bargains away, so we all came home with lots of stuff, though Bodhi got the most. Still, I ended with a retro hanging Santa, a beautiful sparkle deer tree ornament and a light-up mistletoe ornament/hanger which is actually very pretty. Oh, and some Christmas-themed kitchen canisters.
Some photos behind the cut. My aunt also bought Bodhi a laser projector, explaining the spots in one photo.

House stuff is still coming along. It did take two days in the end but I now have a fully fixed and plastered bedroom ceiling. From tomorrow workmen are here every day for one thing or another and I'm looking forward to Friday when hopefully, all the work will be done and I can everything back into place.
This week I also need to actually find and wrap presents, give out cards to the estate and do one last food shop for fresh stuff, but most of the grocery and freezer shopping got done yesterday. Where I made good use of my festival trolley as I trudged it through the snow from the car to the house piled high with groceries and the last presents we had to buy.
When I went to bed last night the snow was still thick and the paths icy. When I woke up there wasn't a speck of snow to be seen. The weather forecast said the thaw was coming, but the speed was impressive.
Sadly Corey is working the closing shift on Christmas Eve, which means a 3am finish so he won't be home that night. He's also working boxing day, just isn't sure if it's earlies or lates. Lates it means he can stop overnight, but if he's opening he'll need to go back to Newcastle on Christmas night. It's a little disappointing but at least he will be here for the actual day.
But, as we won't be driving to Newcastle it does mean that Christmas eve can be a relaxed day. My only plan as of now is to meet up for our annual Christmas Eve Costa with Lucy, Kayleigh and Bodhi -- I say as if it's something we don't do weekly anyway. And the fresh food shop of course. I may even sharpen my elbows and go to Company. We were there yesterday and man, people were feral. The poor shop lady put out one box of chilled puff pasty and was nearly mown down in the rush to get at it.

Date: 2022-12-19 06:50 pm (UTC)I hope everything is done by Friday for you!
Bummer that Corey might not be able to spend the night.
I hope this coming week isn't too busy for you.

Date: 2022-12-20 07:51 am (UTC)Oh man, I hope everything is done by Friday too. I'm counting the days to being back in my own bedroom and not sleeping on Corey's very soft and bouncy mattress.
But yeah, it's sad he won't be staying for long this year. One small positive in all the covid darkness was he was able to stay for well over a week when all the hospitality places were shut. Now, obviously, work has to come first.
I suspect this week is going to be long periods of stuck downstairs with the cats as the workmen are busy upstairs, and bursts of activity as I try to get the things done that need to be done.

Date: 2022-12-20 12:15 am (UTC)I hope everything is all done by the end of the week for you. That would be a lovely Christmas gift itself!
Too bad Corey has to work those shifts. I hope you can work out enough time to visit with him over the holidays.

Date: 2022-12-20 07:54 am (UTC)It is. I can, and do, look after myself but sometimes that fuss is nice to have. Also, lots of hugs.
It's looking good that everything will be done by the end of the week. The carpet fitter has confirmed he'll be here first thing Friday morning and the bed arrives today. Hopefully, it won't take the decorator too long to do their part tomorrow and Thursday.
At least Corey will be here Christmas day, well part of it anyway.

Date: 2022-12-20 06:49 pm (UTC)And wow, how Bodhi has grown!!
I'm keeping everything crossed your bedroom will be finished and ready for use on Friday!
Our snow is also completely gone now. The last of it dissolved in the rain this afternoon. It's so sad!
Sad that Corey probably won't be able to stay the night on Christmas Day but I'm sure you'll have a lovely time anyway.
PS Good luck with all the last-minute things that needs doing!

Date: 2022-12-21 08:25 am (UTC)Bodhi is shooting up now. Now she's on her feet there's no stopping her.
As I said in my other comment, Chris will help bring the mattress up on Friday. I know the carpet fitter is coming first thing Friday morning, and right now I'm waiting for the decorator to turn up. So, all is going well so far.
And ha, the decorator just phoned and said he's twenty minutes away, so looks like it's a go for today too.
It was weird how fast the snow went here. The temps shot up about 13 degrees overnight too.
It is sad that Corey can't stay, but, you're right, we will have a nice day. Even if it's a short one.
