Storm Babet hit last night and is due to stay around until the weekend, getting worse over this afternoon. As of now, we've no issues from the wind, but the downstairs toilet roof is leaking. Looking at where the water is coming from, it's seeping from where the wasp nest was removed a few years ago. At the moment it isn't a bad leak, so with the aid of a bowl and the location, meaning the floor is easy to mop up splashes, it's the best location for a leak really, even if it is annoying to be dripped on if you're using that toilet.
Initially our plans were to go to the cinema this afternoon and keep out of the wet, but seeing how bad it is now and knowing it's forecast to get worse we decided to go out and do a job that needed doing then come home. As for that job, yesterday was another long one.
I had a doctor appointment yesterday, and James one with the same doctor straight after
I've had an ache in my right side for over a week, I was sure it was muscular due to how it hurt with certain movements. But after a week figured I'd better check, plus I had other things to ask at the same time. The doctor agreed it was muscular and if it hasn't started to settle in a week or so he'd refer me to the physio service. Then he asked if I needed painkillers, and when reminded I'm not supposed to take ibuprofen due to having the bypass, said to just to keep using paracetamol, which is a shame as I suspect an anti-inflammatory would help.
I also asked about the numb patch on my outer thigh, and he said it's a nerve being pinched in my hip and losing weight would help, and really, story of my life.
Plus, he referred me to get an assessment to biomechanics department, so I can get an insole done for my stupid arch on my left foot which makes my shoe wear down so fast. Amazingly, that appointment was sent via text message this morning and is for the first week in January, so not as long a wait as I was expecting.
With all that done, it was James' turn, and he has another infection, so is on antibiotics. It's something he's specifically covered about at work in case he needs time off, but we both hope he's caught it early enough, so he can go back on Monday. He was also put on a statin. While he's not pre-diabetic now his bloods and history do show a statin would help, so he started that yesterday, with the warning that potential side effects are aching muscles, which is just what he needs on top of his always aching joints.
Left the doctors and headed for Company as they were advertising cheap candle advent calenders, which is something I get every year. Got one of those, and lots of other stuff too. But really, 6 tasty Bol soups for £1:20, I wasn't going to leave those behind.
From there we picked up my SiL who was going for her own hospital appointment, dropped her off and had a coffee at Tim Hortons while waiting. Picked her up again and went for a mooch around a big charity furniture shop as my SiL needs a new display unit. She didn't find one, but we did find a perfect space saver table and two chairs that would look great in our kitchen. Which we bought and needed to pick up today, therefore, needing to go out.
From there my SiL bought us lunch in Costa then we dropped her off at my nephew's school and then drove to Kayleigh's as she had a doctor appointment and had asked if we could watch Bodhi for an hour or so.
So, I watched many Bear Hunt videos again, played with unicorn and lion while James napped on the couch.
Kayleigh has bronchitis, so it's good she did get an appointment, but it did mean it was past 6pm again when I got home.
We picked the table and chairs up this morning, along with a TV my SiL wanted for my nephew in his new home. Let me say, getting a table and two chairs, plus a big TV, plus having some shopping left from yesterday and having to leave one of the back seats up as my SiL needed to deliver the tv to the assessment home made for some rearranging. Furniture Tetris in a gale and heavy rain, fun for all.
Now I'm home, back in my Oodie and intend to reply to comments and watch some downloads as I have new Our Flag Means Death, Surreal Estate and Hudson and Rex to watch. I'm also watching Crazy Fun Park which I recorded on BBC3. I recommend it, even though it is a bit creepy, especially if you start watching alone at night.

Date: 2023-10-20 04:22 pm (UTC)I'm very glad to be inside, though the electric keeps flickering, which seems a little ominous.

Date: 2023-10-21 04:01 am (UTC)And I hope the various meds and appointments bring you and James relief.
That sounds like a very busy day, and quite a task to haul furniture around in a storm. But I hope the new pieces serve you well also. And that you get to be comfortable at home now!

Date: 2023-10-21 02:53 pm (UTC)What a busy day! I'm arrgh'ing at your doctor. The pinched nerve could be from tight muscles (glutes, piriformis) or a spine misalignment. I've read enough that I really hate when weight is the first thing a doctor says.
I hope the antibiotics do the trick for James! But boo for possible muscle pain from the statin, in addition to his joint pain. Did they say it would be temporary while he gets used to it, or new normal?
Yay for finding a table and chairs you could use!
I hope you remain safe from the storm.

Yeah, I wasn't that impressed either, I mean, he did the referral for the shoe insert straight away, but other than that was no real use at all.

Thankfully, only temporary. They've actually been really good about prescribing the statin as the pharmacist is going to phone in a week or so and see how things are going, any side effects etc. So, fingers crossed the muscle pain will start to go soon.
The table and chairs are great and the perfect size. Though I've nearly dropped dishes on the floor a few times as it's habit to reach behind me from the dishwasher when unloading it because the too big table was right there. This one not so much.

Date: 2023-10-22 08:04 pm (UTC)I hope the ache in your side will soon get better and that the antibiotics will clear up James' infection quickly *sends you both lots of healthy thoughts*
Sounds like you had a couple of very busy days! Furniture tetris in a storm isn't really how I would want to spend my Friday. I hope you've now had a relaxing weekend to make up for it.

Date: 2023-10-26 03:59 pm (UTC)Well, I'm doing okay but James has just had to make another doctor appointment for after work. I keep saying it but there's always something.
The weekend is good, because yeah, the furniture tetris in a storm wasn't the best.
