Nov. 5th, 2003 11:35 amI'm feeling good today. Yesterday, I sat and finished a story that was way overdue. It ended at just under 42,000 words, but I sat until the final edit (by me) was done. It's the longest thing that I've ever done, and I sort of became intimidated by it. Leading to me putting off finishing it, which was really unfair to the person who needed it. But, for better or for worse it's done.
Reading through it did show me some things. Pet names are *bad*, except in a mocking way. I can be very melodramatic when I write and really need to tone some things down. Two betas have said that now, and reading something that I'd written months before I see where they're coming from now.
It's a good thing to learn, though I have to admit seeing paragraphs of what you wrote scored through as redundant does hurt. But you just have to learn from it and hopefully not make the same mistakes again.
My goal is to be a better writer, with ever word important, maybe I'll achieve that one day.
Corey is much better today, he's slept the last two days away. Yesterday he fell asleep for about two hours and frightened the life out of me when he jumped up asking where his water was, which he'd asked for just before falling asleep. He wouldn't believe he had been asleep, even though it was dark when he woke up. Today he's playing with his cars again, which is a good sign, but it does mean I'm getting the 'mam watch this funny bit' about the cartoons again. I swear I can quote the lines from Sponge Bob and Ed, Edd and Eddy.
I also have to say, Pixy Stix are wonderful. I can't believe the sugar rush you get from them. I'm sure they must be really bad for you, but they taste so nice. James stole half my stash and caused a riot at work. He also made one poor guy homesick, he's from California and went into raptures about pixy stix's. He said that you put them in ice cold water and drink that, which sounds pretty disgusting actually, but what do I know?
But now I icon. I've had my new limit for two days now and not filled them, and that's not right.
