Aug. 29th, 2021 02:39 pmWe did end up going to the funeral on Thursday. It was a nice but short ceremony as there had been a chuch service beforehand. We also went to the wake afterwards and spent a few hours with James' old school friends. I know all of them after many years of getting together for various things, but what made me smile was people were talking about holiday insurance and one of James' friends said at least when you had arthrogryposis the insurance stayed low as it's such a rare condition that usually the insurance company hadn't heard of it.
At which point James said he'd never realised his friend had AMC too. I asked him about that later and he said that when they were kids no one ever talked about their disabilities, they were just kids being kids, and disability never came into it.
Friday we went out for an early lunch for baby fannish niece, who will be 19 next week. We went to The Stack at the beach and of course, picked a day that was cold. But The Stack has heaters so I picked a prime spot under a heater and was soon toasty. There was also a singer on when we were there, just a crooner doing a mix of Disney and old classics, but he was entertaining enough.
Yesterday a family friend was visiting his mam and dad in the area and we spent the day with him and his girlfriend. She just had a gastric bypass a month or so ago so wanted to chat to me about that and hopefully, I could be reassuring because it may be four years ago, but I still remember how hard the early days are.
So, we met for lunch, then went to the beach and funfair, which was really busy due to it being a hot, warm day on a bank holiday weekend, then back to our friend's parents for a coffee before home.
James met up with them again today but I cried off and got some things sorted in the house before making a start on catching up online.
