Oct. 20th, 2022 11:42 amMy MiL was admitted to the hospital yesterday and is now in the cardiac unit in a side ward getting barrier nursing as they think she has some kind of flu that's affecting her breathing, heart and chest. I still don't think she gets how poorly she is as when we were in yesterday she was saying how all the medical staff at her doctors, then the paramedics, then the staff at the hospital had been lovely to her even though there's nothing that wrong with her. This was minutes after I watched her oxygen stats drop to the low 80s after having her oxygen mask off for the short time it took to have a drink of tea.
Visiting restrictions are two people once a day for 45 minutes by appointment. So, as my SiL is going away at the weekend she's taking the next two days, then I'll go in with James on Saturday and then sadly, no one on Sunday as the visiting slots are when we'll be at the christening and meal. Then we'll see from then as I can't see her getting out anytime soon.
While at my SiL's the PDSA phoned and Milo has a telephone appointment on the 30th with a vet. The person arranging it apologised for the wait as they're mega busy and it's not an immediate emergency, but seemed sure painkillers would be prescribed at that point. Thankfully, I found some painkillers he'd been prescribed from Simply Cats so those will tide him over until then.
I'd ordered Milo a raised water bowl so he wouldn't have to hunch over so much to drink, and while at the hospital got an email showing it had been delivered along with a photo. That photo showed the package sitting on one of the garden chairs, which I thought weird as the greenhouse is my noted safe space and the delivery person would have to walk past that to get to the chairs which are on the decking at the side of the house, which is right next to the public pavement.
Opening the parcel and finding a completely shattered ceramic bowl wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap and a plastic bag, I realised the delivery person must have thrown the parcel over the fence and got lucky with it landing on the chair. But had also completely broken the bowl in the process. Looking online I saw I could get a refund for a damaged product but they wanted it returned first and nope, I wasn't having that. One polite chat later and I had a full refund and was told to keep the product. Not that a stand with a broken bowl is much good to me.
James also had his back to work phone call from his manager yesterday. As of now he's going back the second week of November on a phased return, two three hour shifts the first week, two five hour shifts the second week and then reassess from there as that takes him up to the week of his appointment with the renal specialist. An appointment he knows about via text message as yet again the post office has been and is on strike and we're getting no mail.
It also works out nicely as I've got my maintenance bandaging the first week of November, then an appointment the day before he goes back, then the day after he has his second shift so I won't need the hospice transport.
To end on a nice note, we're off to Newcastle to have lunch with Corey soon. It feels like I haven't seen him in person for ages so I'm looking forward to hugging the stuffing out of him.
