Oct. 20th, 2022 11:42 amMy MiL was admitted to the hospital yesterday and is now in the cardiac unit in a side ward getting barrier nursing as they think she has some kind of flu that's affecting her breathing, heart and chest. I still don't think she gets how poorly she is as when we were in yesterday she was saying how all the medical staff at her doctors, then the paramedics, then the staff at the hospital had been lovely to her even though there's nothing that wrong with her. This was minutes after I watched her oxygen stats drop to the low 80s after having her oxygen mask off for the short time it took to have a drink of tea.
Visiting restrictions are two people once a day for 45 minutes by appointment. So, as my SiL is going away at the weekend she's taking the next two days, then I'll go in with James on Saturday and then sadly, no one on Sunday as the visiting slots are when we'll be at the christening and meal. Then we'll see from then as I can't see her getting out anytime soon.
While at my SiL's the PDSA phoned and Milo has a telephone appointment on the 30th with a vet. The person arranging it apologised for the wait as they're mega busy and it's not an immediate emergency, but seemed sure painkillers would be prescribed at that point. Thankfully, I found some painkillers he'd been prescribed from Simply Cats so those will tide him over until then.
I'd ordered Milo a raised water bowl so he wouldn't have to hunch over so much to drink, and while at the hospital got an email showing it had been delivered along with a photo. That photo showed the package sitting on one of the garden chairs, which I thought weird as the greenhouse is my noted safe space and the delivery person would have to walk past that to get to the chairs which are on the decking at the side of the house, which is right next to the public pavement.
Opening the parcel and finding a completely shattered ceramic bowl wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap and a plastic bag, I realised the delivery person must have thrown the parcel over the fence and got lucky with it landing on the chair. But had also completely broken the bowl in the process. Looking online I saw I could get a refund for a damaged product but they wanted it returned first and nope, I wasn't having that. One polite chat later and I had a full refund and was told to keep the product. Not that a stand with a broken bowl is much good to me.
James also had his back to work phone call from his manager yesterday. As of now he's going back the second week of November on a phased return, two three hour shifts the first week, two five hour shifts the second week and then reassess from there as that takes him up to the week of his appointment with the renal specialist. An appointment he knows about via text message as yet again the post office has been and is on strike and we're getting no mail.
It also works out nicely as I've got my maintenance bandaging the first week of November, then an appointment the day before he goes back, then the day after he has his second shift so I won't need the hospice transport.
To end on a nice note, we're off to Newcastle to have lunch with Corey soon. It feels like I haven't seen him in person for ages so I'm looking forward to hugging the stuffing out of him.

Date: 2022-10-20 11:08 am (UTC)Milo was grooming his sides yesterday which was a good sign.
I will. The kidlet will be getting a huge squeeze.
Hope you're doing okay, too ♥

Date: 2022-10-20 12:20 pm (UTC)I'm glad Milo is feeling slightly better (according to your comment above). I hope the telephone appointment goes well.
How irritating about the broken bowl! (I would have thought a photo of it would've been enough for them to accept that it needs to be replaced or refunded; what are they going to do with a broken bowl anyway?!!)
I hope things go well for James returning to work.

It's amazing what pain killers can do, Milo is getting around nicely now, not that he likes taking them, no matter how much they help. I just hope they'll prescribe him the same kind.

I know, right? I was so annoyed on the chat, I kept looking at the broken bowl and thinking no way was I going to send that back.

Date: 2022-10-21 03:04 am (UTC)And it sounds good that Milo at least got an appointment, even though you and he have to wait! Also, wow, that's really crappy about the broken water bowl. Good for you for telling them what's what on that.
I hope James's return goes smoothly and that the work asked of him doesn't overtax him.
And I hope you had an excellent time with Corey!!

Date: 2022-10-26 02:47 pm (UTC)That's what I keep thinking, if only she'd gone to the doctor when she first felt unwell this could have been avoided.
I was so frustrated when I chatted about the broken bowl. It was bad enough finding it like that without being told at first I needed to send the thing back.

Date: 2022-10-21 08:07 am (UTC)Can you find a bowl that will fit on the raised stand? How tiresome it is to find the delivery unusable. My Sable has been ignoring her indoor water dish, and drinking from a garden tray I left near the pond for the birds (and the hedgehog, possibly) to drink from instead. Foolish cat. I guess the rainwater-with-dead-leaves is tastier.
Have fun with Corey!

Date: 2022-10-26 02:53 pm (UTC)She really is, and even now doesn't seem to get how poorly she was. It was only today they took off all her monitoring leads and oxygen. Though that isn't going that well as she's getting light-headed when she tries to move.

I'm laughing at that because one of the reasons that I got the raised bowl was because Milo was drinking out of a fan we had. It's like a small air conditioner where you add water at the top and cool air is blown out, but Milo preferred to drink the stale, often cat hairy, water in the top.

Date: 2022-10-21 12:35 pm (UTC)And now sweet Milo doesn't get his new water dish! But at least you have your refund, and you didn't have to threaten anyone's life to get it. Here's hoping those pain killers manage to give him some relief.
Halloween is more than a week away, but the Hallmark Channel is already wall to wall Christmas romcoms; I DVRed a bunch the other day and thought of you!

Date: 2022-10-26 02:36 pm (UTC)Sadly the Christening didn't happen so she got visitors. But good thoughts are still always welcome.
Milo is doing well on his painkillers, and hopefully, when he has his actual appointment they'll prescribe him some to keep him pain-free always. As you know it's horrible when they get old and creaky.

I may have a Christmas film on in the background right now!

Date: 2022-10-22 04:28 pm (UTC)Sorry you had to deal with the broken delivery issue. I can't imagine they'd want you to ship a broken bowl back. Have you thought of a fountain? I bought a porcelain fountain maybe 2-3 years ago. It took the cats a while to get used to it, but eventually, they all came to love it. It's a larger size and sits higher than a normal bowl.
I hope James does well transitioning back to work. Have a great time with Corey!

Date: 2022-10-26 02:30 pm (UTC)Our local hospital would let you visit anytime between 2-4 then 6-8. When mam was in hospital I used to share those times with Kayleigh so mam would have company as much as possible, and when dad was in hospital Pauline would go to both, staying in the cafe in between. So yeah, Covid did change things. At least they're letting people in now, at the worst of it you could only get in if someone was at the point of dying.
The cats did have a fountain but it was plastic and it got a bit scruffy and they started to refuse to use it. I do think a porcelain type would be a good option height-wise, and also provide that luxury element they apparently need.

It was a little pricey, but well worth it to me. I specifically looked for a bowl that was not plastic (although, some of the inside pieces are plastic). I clean in 1-2 times a week, change the filter every 2 weeks, and I've had motors last anywhere from a couple of months to a full year. The biggest thing is to keep the unit clean and change the filters, which helps the motors last longer. Although I've paid as much as $20 for a motor, I think the last couple I bought were around $12. I buy the filters in bulk (16/pack) and always make sure to have a spare motor on hand because the kitties do not like it when the motor dies!

Date: 2022-10-22 08:01 pm (UTC)I think delivery people are getting worse - my Dad had a parcel lobbed behind a bin today - literal 3 steps from the front door which he was sitting next to at the time (reading in the sun porch, rather than lying in wait, but still, he could be seen through the wavy glass!). It's symptomatic of the way the delivery companies work their people, but I don't know how it can be profitable with the refunds and so on... I'm glad you got the supplier to take responsibility properly (which is as it should be, they choose the courier).
I'm glad that James got a text message about his appointment, the postal situation is such a mess right now - I support the strikers, it should never have been privatised, but it's causing so many issues.
Continued well wishes for Milo and your MiL

That is ridiculous! You're also right about the refunds taking chunks out of profits, but the delivery companies don't seem to care.
James' actual paper appointment still hasn't arrived, and he knows it is due as the text message linked to a scan of the letter. Right now we only seem to get mail about once a week and all I can think is it's piling up and being left for certain days due to the strikes and continuing Covid time offs needed.

Date: 2022-10-22 08:04 pm (UTC)I see from comments that the painkillers you found seem to be helping Milo so yay!
That really sucks the bowl was broken! Maybe you have another bowl that will fit the stand?
Keeping everything crossed the phased return will work out perfectly for James!
I hope you'd a very nice time with Corey with lots of hugs!

Date: 2022-10-24 08:53 am (UTC)Yeah, Milo's doing well on the painkillers. I was glad I could find some old ones because it was too long to wait for the PDSA without them and I would have taken him to Simply Cats, which of course would have been much more expensive.
I bought another bowl at the shops and Milo is using it nicely. But I'm going to investigate the other bowl option in the stand. It seems a shame to waste it.
I had a lovely time with Corey. I'd missed his hugs.
