Jul. 19th, 2004 12:25 pmLast night mam phoned down to say something was wrong with Brock. He's our family dog and is really old for a dog, 15 I think. He has a twisted right front foot, a tumour on the other, arthritis, his teeth are all ground down to nothing and he's covered in lumps and bumps. But he still chases after a ball all the time and loves to go for walks, even if it takes him a long time to walk a short way. Last night he started making these noises, so I went up when mam phoned and he couldn't walk hardly and kept making this horrible whine when he tried to move. I honestly thought he'd be dead by this morning, but he wasn't and has been to the vets. They've given him an injection and he seems to have perked up a little.
Man, my journal's a laugh a minute lately.
Corey broke up for the summer on Friday, so I've seven weeks of cartoons and assorted boys to look forward to. James may be taking him camping for the weekend soon with some of his friends. They asked if I wanted to go but as much as I enjoy going out for day trips etc the thought of sleeping in a tent is something that doesn't really appeal. So I may have a weekend on my own at some point.
I was thinking about recs this morning after seeing
call_me_loca asking for some. I didn't give any because whenever I see someone asking for recs my brain goes blank and my brain is sort of like 'Chris...pixy stix...Lance....bdsm....dogs....grapefruit...Joey' and on and on and on. There's so many stories I love that narrowing it down is almost impossible. Plus I'm terrible at titles.
castalie has this freaky brain that can tell you a story title in seconds, and I'm so impressed with that. Hell half of the time I can't even remember the titles of my own stuff.
These archives that you have to click a pop up saying that you're over 18 before you can read a story. Why? What do they expect them to do? Stop someone underaged from reading after seeing them? I don't think so. All I want is to read some hot sex and those pop ups get in the way of that. I know it's only seconds to click on them but it's my annoyance and I'm going to bitch about them, just because I can. Then I won't have to bitch about the people I've seen while friendsfriends surfing who are bloody insane. It makes me appreciate my own flist so much more when I come back to it and there's no one that thinks Justin is the devil himself. I know some of you dislike him but you don't do whole posts about what an evil bastard he is.
I also hate when you're googling for a specific thing in a story and your own pops up in the results. It's just one less thing to read. Okay, I'll stop whining now *g*
castalie, Kayleigh was talking about cucumbers today and I couldn't resist joking about them. Thinking about your QAF conversation you know? She just didn't get it at all. I guess you need to be a special kind of pervert to appreciate the cucumber jokes ;) Which makes me want to see QAF. Is it Tuesday yet so I can download the ep?
I remembered the haiku generator after seeing it in
silveryscrape's journal. I don't usually post the results but this one made me laugh. spread in front of him that creates so many delicious images in my mind.
Did any of you TS people get a mail from someone saying a French author has sued Petfly? Because I did and I'm a little confused. The mail was CCed to a lot of TS people I recognise but I don't understand why they sent a mail full of French articles to me. For one I can't read them and it's not like I'm anyone known in the fandom to ask about things like that. I wonder if they expect an answer?
I'm going to try and get the TrickC done today and start on my in-box. I should tidy up a bit too, everything was left over the weekend and the house looks like a bomb dropped. Of course what will probably happen is I'll sit here surfing LJ and reading, I'm nothing if not predictable. I think that's it for this post, and what a post it was, rambling, whining and cucumber jokes. The story of my life really *g*

Date: 2004-07-19 04:47 am (UTC)Justin and I ignore each other quite happily (which is easier to do for him, with the advantage of not knowing about my existence). Everyone should try that.
On a different note: Why do I know so many people, who do not like camping? Camping is the ideal way of sending once free time.

Date: 2004-07-19 05:20 am (UTC)I wouldn't mind camping if there were electricity, a real bed and a bathroom, but I suspect that's getting away from the point of the thing *g*

Date: 2004-07-19 05:29 am (UTC)Besides, I already found better topics to bitch about.
Oh, the bathroom argument is a good one. Maybe I am romanticizing camping after I have not done it for almost two years.

Date: 2004-07-19 05:10 am (UTC)LOL. I doubt you'd be mass defriended for dissing Justin.
I get that a lot of people don't like him, but I think it goes too far at times. Of course you're entitled to write what you like in your own LJ and if that's rant after rant about how he's an evil bastard who's oppressing the others, so be it.
So if you want to do an evil bastard Justin post that's okay by me, I'll keep away from the defriending button ;)
I hope Brock's okay too, he's a tough old dog.
*hugs you back*
Thanks, hon.

Date: 2004-07-19 05:22 am (UTC)I don't think every little thing under the sun is his fault, or maybe I just don't want him to have that kind of power ;)
I don't need to rant about him. I just look at the pretty JC pictures and I'm good :)

Date: 2004-07-19 05:34 am (UTC)I love your pretty JC pictures, we don't need any Timberlake rants in your LJ! You're one smart lady :D

So I may have a weekend on my own at some point.
Here's to hoping. :-)
There's so many stories I love that narrowing it down is almost impossible.
Amen to that.
Hell half of the time I can't even remember the titles of my own stuff.

Thank you for helping me to come to a decision about what to do with my more...explicit (*waits for laughter to die down*) fic! I'll just put warnings up there, and if people who shouldn't be reading it do anyway, it's not my friggin' problem.
Then I won't have to bitch about the people I've seen while friendsfriends surfing who are bloody insane. It makes me appreciate my own flist so much more when I come back to it and there's no one that thinks Justin is the devil himself.

I don't really care much for what they do IRL. I prefer the imagined versions of the boys, because then I can have them do whatever I want them to. *eg*
I also hate when you're googling for a specific thing in a story and your own pops up in the results. It's just one less thing to read.
Try googling for "disabilityfic". *eg*
Did any of you TS people get a mail from someone saying a French author has sued Petfly?
Yes, I did. I could always ask
I don't understand why they sent a mail full of French articles to me. For one I can't read them and it's not like I'm anyone known in the fandom to ask about things like that.
I felt the same way. At first I thought they had only targeted European fans, but they hadn't. And what's with the selection of recipients anyway?
I wonder if they expect an answer?
I have no idea.
I'm going to try and get the TrickC done today
:-D

You sound like me. I was planning on going to town today, but it's 2.20 pm already..I might just go to the supermarket in town, they're open until 9 pm. *grins*

Best way IMO. I'll eagerly wait for your explicit stuff ;)

I bet a lot of the results are yours *g*
So you got that mail too, I don't get why they're sending it out to everyone. It's not like we can do anything about it.

Date: 2004-07-19 06:25 am (UTC)Your rant about those pop ups made me laugh, because they have always annoyed me as well. I just can't imagine how they're a deterrent. Someone seeking out stories about two guys fucking who ignores all the NC-17 disclaimers is probably not going to be easily scared away by a pop up window. *g*
Also, being a newbie to this fandom, I have to say that the evil!Justin thing really boggles my mind. I like Justin, though of all the guys he's probably my least favorite. I don't understand the venom. This is actually something about fandom in general that I don't understand. Why waste your time and energy bitching and hating about something all the time? Is that more enjoyable than squeeing over the good stuff? I suppose for some people it is, but that boggles my mind.
And yay for TrickC!
no subject
Date: 2004-07-19 06:54 am (UTC)Exactly! The pop up warnings make no sense. If you look up an NC 17 story, read the summary and dislaimer then click on the story a pop up's not going to stop you.
The Justin thing is something I don't get either. I understand why some people dislike him, but what I don't understand is why people fixate on him when they could be doing something they enjoy. I mean the people who do whole rants about what a rat bastard he is here, not those that just say they dislike him.
Personally I like Justin a lot, he tends to come last in my list of favourites but that's on a totally shallow attractiveness scale.
And yay for TrickC!
LOL. I need to get down to it, I've been pottering around like I knew I would.

Date: 2004-07-19 07:06 am (UTC)I don't think pop-ups are meant to be a deterrent *really*, I think it's more CYA.
I don't mind rec'ing stories if they ask for something specific (hooker-AUs, disability, etc.), but I don't usually rec for people who post "Can anyone rec any good (insert pairing here) stories?". Tastes vary so much and there's no telling if someone will like a story just because I do.
I totally agree that way too many people spend way too much time hating other people in general. I'd hate to go through life being that bitter and negative. What a waste of time and energy.
no subject
Date: 2004-07-19 07:14 am (UTC)I've been sitting reading back on the flist and noticed you've been away.
I suspect you're right about the pop ups, but they're annoying none the less.
You're right with the recs too. Taste is so varied that every story has someone that thinks it's the best thing ever.
Hatred is such a strong emotion, dislike yes, but hatred, especially in fandom is really OTT.

Date: 2004-07-19 07:47 am (UTC)It makes sense to some extent. I'd hate to think anyone really underage would read my stuff. It's just, I don't see how multiple warnings would stop anyone that wanted to.
But yeah, I understand the covering your ass thing.

Date: 2004-07-19 10:02 am (UTC)You see, in my opinion, if you're gonna have a popup before an Nc-17 story, you need a porn popup. Perferably suited to your audience. This means a picture of some guy sucking down dick for any slasher to see and get confronted with before s/he reads. That's the only way it will work.
And hey, being that JuC is my OTP, it's kinda impossible that Justin is the devil, in my head. Unless we're waxing religious today. Then Justin can be the devil and JC can be a perfect angel and for some odd reason someone cast both of them aside to fuck.like.bunnies. And make some kind of fucked up race of super-demonbabies that could get into heaven only because they bumpped uglies. Anditwouldbecool. But until I get the absolute need to wax religious, and I haven't in about eight or nine years, I think I don't need that kinda thing. Now, Justin acting devilish is a whole diffrent ballgame. Literally.

Date: 2004-07-19 04:03 pm (UTC)Man, if I saw that kind of pop up I'd be refreshing all the time. You're a genius, I hope you know that.
Your story ideas are also genius, because that religion idea is so workable. I especially like the fucked up race of super-demonbabies.
Justin should always act devilish I think, but with Chris not JC ;)

Date: 2004-07-19 04:14 pm (UTC)I'm glad you think of me as a genius, but unfortunately, I'm only a woman. A woman who's annoyed with both popups and the people who put them up there, sure, but a woman nonetheless.

Date: 2004-07-20 03:50 am (UTC)I think I feel sorry for all those people who don't get the cucumber jokes! The world must be such a sad place for all the non-pervie part of the population.
I did receive it but I'm afraid I couldn't care less and even deleted the thing before even reading it, which is sorta bad when you think of it because I obviously don't even have the language excuse lol
Speaking of mails. I had the surprise to receive a mail from you yesterday - only I realised something was wrong because the name wasn't right, I mean when I receive stuff from you it's from 'Terri' and here it wasn't, then I realised the reason why, it was virus. Well my anti-virus got it and deleted it I mean so it was more or less an de-virused mail lol I also received a mail from brenjess which made me laugh - apparently some viruses are really busy this week, I received tons of them, and lots of them coming from people I know from LJ or the like. I wonder how many mails were sent using *my* addy *cringe*
And since I'm on the subject, did you ever receive my non-ST mails? I know Babycakes never received the last mail I sent her, so I'm wondering if it could have happened to you too, though I don't think it's the case because why would you receive all the ST related mails and not the regular ones, right?
Btw, just realised I read your last Boxes snippet and didn't comment. Just wanted to tell how much I enjoyed going back to that series, in particular since it was Chris/JC all the way *g* It was a beautiful little interlude and I loved how you show JC's strength in that one... I mean, we all think Chris is the strong one, and of course he is, but JC has a strength of his own, and I'm glad he's giving it to Chris *g*

Date: 2004-07-22 07:23 am (UTC)LOL, it's a compliment, really. The way you remember all the story titles amazes me. Your explanation makes a lot of sense though.
Cucumber jokes are the best! People who don't see that are just sad.
I did receive it but I'm afraid I couldn't care less and even deleted the thing before even reading it
It was just such a random thing to receive, and now I see it's popped up on the MLs. I don't know who's sending them out but I'd love to know what they think they'll achieve.
I've had a load of viruses too, which is why I'm so glad I've got good virus software, the last thing I want is another computer crash.
The last mail that I got from you was the one about your family, apart from the ST ones. I'll check my bulk folder after this, I keep forgetting and it has a tendancy to be really stupid at what it classes as bulk.
Thanks for the comment on the snippet. I loved writing in that universe again. I really need to get the challenges done that I owe then I can do my own stuff again. Why I turned into a challenge junkie I don't know.
