I've a free day and was going to spent it writing. I even made myself not open any browser windows so I wouldn't get distracted reading something. LJ doesn't count But I need a break now, so after a hint from [livejournal.com profile] rhiannon_jehane I'm going to do an old meme that she just did. Already she knows that I like talking about myself *g*

The Fandom Meme

What was the very first fandom you got involved in?

Voyager. I'm a trekker, still am. So when I first got my own internet connection I searched for the shows that I liked. Bare in mind at that point I didn't even know about fanfic. So I looked up Tom Paris and following a lot of links ended up at the Paris/Torres archive. Yes I was a het shipper, all I can say in my defence was it was a long time ago and I didn't know about slash. At least that it existed anywhere apart from my own head. One day I discovered Yahoo groups, joined a few Voy lists and that was it. My first fandom. I did find C/P P/K slash pretty soon, so I wasn't in het hell for long. I read vast amounts of Voy slash, I think at one point I had every Tom Paris slash fic I could find saved. I didn't really interact apart from sending LoC's, but damn I read a lot.

What is the most recent fandom to catch your interest?

I had a brief thing for Fastlane, but the total lack of stories available made it a short fling. But the most recent that I've gone for in a big way is Mutant X. I can't tell you how much I love the show, despite the writing making me grind my teeth.

Fandom you've stayed loyal to the longest?

It depends what you mean. I still like Voyager but I was never active in the fandom. But I still consider myself a fan, and I've watched from the pilot episode, so for Voy I've watched about 10 years, but it probably doesn't count as I didn't even know about fandom for most of those. If you mean active it's The Sentinel. I've been in that fandom just under two years ( man sis, is it really that long?)

Fandom(s) you're most passionate about?

That's a *really* hard choice. But I have to say MX. I have to be passionate as most people hate the show and the ones that do like it seem to hate Brennan. You don't want to know how many e-mails and posts I've written defending him.

Fandom(s) you wish you could get into, but can't?

Stargate. But let me explain why. I like reading J/D slash, but I'll be honest I don't get the fandom. I lurk on some lists and they seem to spend the time eating themselves, over Daniel and Jonas. Farscape, the shows awesome but I don't enjoy the fanfic in it. And Smallville, that one's more obvious. The fandom's huge and I've loved some of the stories, but it's not grabbing me. I've tried, really I have. In theory as I'm a sci fi super hero geek I should love it, but though I can watch and enjoy it, I'll never make an effort to do so.

Fandoms you're curious about, but never had the chance to get into?

Can't really think of any. Maybe Mag 7. I've never seen the show but it seems to be talked about a lot. Oh, this is half an answer QAF US. We've had the first season here, but no go on the next two and it's driving me nuts! I see these new characters and I didn't have a clue who they were, so I stopped reading QAF. Plus I'm bitter after the BBC didn't pick it up again.

Fandom that's been the most fun to be involved in?

Again two answers here. MX, because the fandom is so small I mail most people that write slashfic for it. Maybe just a note every now and then but it's cool to know most of the writers. Also because of my archive. There was no central MX slash archive so I made one. At times I've wanted to pull my hair out because of it, but I had fun building it, and I'm always proud when I see how well it's doing. MX means Jenny to me too. She's my Victor lusting partner in crime and makes me lol every mail. She sends me pretty dolls and naked pictures of Victor that make me happy.

The Sentinel because of the people again. [livejournal.com profile] castalie and I joined the fandom together and we've had fun. There's also others that I love in that fandom, some excellent interesting people.

Fandom that's been the least fun to be involved in?

Contradicting what I said before, TS sometimes. Because for every good person there's an idiot who seems to want to bring you down. I've watched friends get savaged on lists because of what they wrote, and arguments that drive you insane when you hear them for the tenth time. Things like DD can cause lists to erupt and you get sick of it. Also TS can be *very* cliquey. Add in the constant lament that all the good writers are leaving the fandom and the new ones are crap and it makes you think why the hell do you bother? I don't know if there was a golden age of TS, I wasn't around then. But the least they could do was give the new people a try. Maybe we weren't around for the Save Our Sentinel thing, but does that makes us less of a fan...sorry hit a nerve there.

Fandom you're ashamed to admit you were involved in?

Voy het *g* No I'm not ashamed of any of my past fandoms. I loved them then so I couldn't be ashamed of them now.

Are you looking for a new fandom, or actively avoiding getting sucked into something new?

I'm trying not to be sucked full time into popslash. The thing is I like boyband slash but I'm also faintly ashamed as I know it's such a sore point for people. When I'm reading at the popslash sites I don't feel it, but when I come back to media fandom and hear the anti rps slash thing I sorta think, what the hell are you doing? I only read popslash, simply because I doubt that the image that they show onscreen is themselves, it's an act of sorts. But I also know that's not enough for most people. I've done a short BSB slash fic and I don't even know if I'll post it because of once I do that it means I've joined the fandom.

You'll know that I've lost the battle if I start squeeing and saying 'yo' and talking about glittery sparkly things and how hot Kevin is. * looks at entries in own LJ, sees everything but the 'yo' thing* Damn!

Are there any fandoms that just don't do it for you at all?

Harry Potter, don't kill me babycakes! Ive never read the books and never really had any desire to.

What fandoms do you think you will probably get into at some point in the future?

Going by my friends list I think I could read a Due South story or two *g* I keep hovering over Enterprise too, reading Trip fic but then forgetting about it for a few weeks.

If I could make a movie (or another movie) out of any of my fandoms, what would it be like and who would star?

I want to see a MX movie. The same cast members but Brennan and Jesse will be out by then. No more being in the closet for tv. I want to see some kick ass special effects, good writing, Brennan to look like seson 1 Bren and grow his hair back out and start wearing those tight leather trousers again. And sex, lotsa sex.

Shut up anyone saying that would be X2, the shows are different! *glares*

What squicks you to the point that it would keep you from reading a story?

Cross dressing Jim. Cross dressing makes me feel ill in TS. Poodle sex. Het sex, and that sounds bad but I just don't read it. Femme Blair, thug Jim, Though those aren't squicks, just things that make me want to scream 'what show are you watching?'

Wow, that took a long time! Back to writing.

First off? Your icon! I am torn b/w laughter and tears. I have a standard, and he's white -- shave a few inches off your icon puppy, and that's my sweet boy. The poodle sex was bad enough, but now I'm projecting my big baby, and imagining Jim/Poodle slash... ahhhhhhh! *eg*

As for cross-dressing Jim... What? You mean the thought of dear James in a polka-dot, crinolined skirt and stilleto pumps doesn't appeal to you? ;P

Sorry Alee!

The icon's a sort of joke. I don't know if you read in my LJ but there was a story posted to TS slash archive recently that had Jim having penetrative sex with a poodle. It takes a lot to squick me but man, that did. I wanted to scrub my brains after. One of my friends picked up on that and started talking about poodle sex a lot, thus the icon. It sorta stands for badfic now *g*

Your poodle must be beautiful, and I'm sure Jim wouldn't want him at all ;)

ARGHHHHHH. Okay, I got you with the poodle, you got me with that. Thinking of Jim like that is beyond bad...shudder. You fight mean lol.

Woops... somehow, I feel kind of guilty about the poodle thing lol - but you should definitely feel guilty for the polka-dot crinolined skirt - although it made me laugh, which is always good lol

NO! The poodle thing has made me lol so much this last week. Better than the squick that I was left with after reading that story.

You know every time that I mention that my squick is Jim cross dressed someone describes an outfit. You're all trying to kill me I'm sure! Look, there's me dead on the floor after reading all the cross dressed Jim references *g*
