This guy joined a list I'm on for Paris/Kim in the Voyager fandom. He wrote this article and used people's posts, word for word. He even put spelling mistakes in with sic after. What he didn't do is tell anyone that he was doing that. Just joined the list for a few months, copied what he wanted and wrote this article.
There's just something so wrong about that. He doesn't use names or handles but when you post to a mailing list you don't expect your words to be copied and used again. Actually, later he does use handles when he talks of Torch's and Bingly's stories.
He's also copied parts of slashfic stories to use as examples as he talks about the Paris/Kim relationship.
Also, I could do without yet another study on slash fans and how all these het woman are out to show TPTB that the characters are gay and what prompts them to do what they do.
I'm a slasher because I find the idea of two men together incredibly erotic. That's not just sex, seeing two men holding hands gives me the wibbles. I've never sat and wondered why I like what I do, I just do, and that's enough for me. If people want to study slash, fine, but at least be upfront about it.

Date: 2003-07-03 09:07 am (UTC)If he was a real fan he would have been flamed/ignored on list etc, but he was just an academic who got what he wanted them left.
It astounds me sometimes the things people do.
