Jan. 12th, 2006 10:30 pmThis last week has been a bitch in terms of computer stuff. Poor Silver wasn't working at all well, then Norton went totally screwy and blocked me from uploading, downloading, shoved mails into weird folders, just went insane really. But, in trying to fix things I made an almighty screw up somehow and managed to totally wipe all my Outlook express settings, which I only realised when the first of 10,000 mails started to download, a whole years worth it seems. All my folders were wiped too, which included mails from friends stretching back up to 4 years in some cases. Three years worth of beta, writing, feedback stuff. Every mail I ever saved into folders, gone. Just so much I'm trying not to think of just now. I've downloaded retrieval software and have one which found the files, but won't let me save them unless I have a registered copy, and it's just, head meet desk time.
I know I'm lucky in many ways. It didn't touch my media files or any stuff I've got saved, but man, all those mails. It's to cry. Plus I have the insane situation of having a mail box with over 9000 mails just now. Which is good in a way as it means when I actually weed through them I'll probably find stuff that was sent in the last few months, but actually doing so makes my head hurt just thinking about it.
Apart from that, things are okay. I had a visit to the lymphodemia clinic on Monday and my legs have decreased in size to up to 10cm round in some places, which is a combination of the lymph fluid starting to go where it's supposed to and also from losing weight. But the best was, the leg with the infection 'o doom used to be 35 percent bigger than the other, now it's down to 25 percent which is of the good. James has been off work sick all this week too, so between not been able to get online and not being able to watch tv because of him hogging the control, well the house is sparkling.
There's other things I'm sure. Can't be that important though as I can't remember. Oh wait, I must have a little squee about Supernatural starting over here, and season 2 of House soon. I mean, sure I've seen them already, but it's so much better seeing them on tv. I think James will like Supernatural too, he can admire the urban legends and I'll admire the cesty brothers ;) Prison Break is starting soon too and I'll give that a try. It seemed a lot of people on the flist were watching it then just stopped for some reason. Though of course nothing is as exciting as seeing The Barrowman, Andi Peters and Phillip Schofield, on Dancing on Ice on Saturday, Live and Kicking and the broom cupboard reunited, how can my heart stand it!? Ahem, yes. There's some gorgeous billboards advertising House around town at the moment, I so want the one of Chase but James won't steal it for me, because he's just mean like that.
So yes, still alive, and I have both House and Supernatural downloaded and ready to watch after doing some mod like duties. Tomorrow, I tackle the mail box...eeep.

Date: 2006-01-12 10:46 pm (UTC)Good medical news, that's what I like to hear *g*
Prison Break has been picked up by M6 and I'm thinking of trying again when it'll air on my telly. Actually, SAM told me she would burn some episodes for me, so I might get into it again sooner than planned. I'll see if my interest for the show stays or fades away like it did the first time.
And hee SPN! That is all *bows*

Date: 2006-01-12 11:12 pm (UTC)It was awesome medical news! That was a total bright spot in what's been a sucky week.
See, I tend to go by you in terms of tv. I know we have pretty similar tastes so I'm a little so so about if I'll maintain interest in Prison Break. Plus, like I said. It seemed loads of people were watching and just stopped. I'll give it a go though.
Man, I'm still trying to decide what to do about SN *g*

Date: 2006-01-12 11:15 pm (UTC)I've been using OE-Mail recovery. Like I said, it found the files but won't let me pay unless I pay, which sucks. If you can help that would be awesome.
Thank you!

Date: 2006-01-13 12:09 am (UTC)and a rar-pack of the program including a reg file that will make a full version out of the trial (I tested it, it works!) of the 1.7.6 version, download here.
You need to unpack it, install the "OE mail recovery 1.7.6.exe" file (or, if you should have the 1.7.6 version installed already, leave that out), then just double-click on the "OE-Mail recovery key 1.7.6.reg" file and say yes in the window that pops up.
If there's problems, just holler.

Yeah, that's because the stupid network decided to take it off the air for 4 months!!! No, I'm not bitter at all, why do you ask? Anyway, you should watch it, I think you'd like it. It has a very hot boy and a brother people seem to want to slash him with. Just what you like, right? ;)

Date: 2006-01-12 11:17 pm (UTC)Oh, so that's why people stopped talking about it. That explains a lot, I thought they'd just given up or something. Now it has your stamp of approval I'll give it a go for sure, especially if there's cest to be had ;)

Date: 2006-01-12 11:27 pm (UTC)Yay you with the good medical news, though. At least the crap is tempered by this. (My inner Pollyanna rears her obnoxious head.)
Mmmm. Prison Break. Can't wait!!

Date: 2006-01-12 11:43 pm (UTC)Yeah, I figured the bad of this week was nicely balanced by the good. Which really, is a very good thing.
It seems a lot of people like Prison Break, I'll be interested to see the show now.
Thanks for the commiserations and the yays. Both are most welcome :)

Date: 2006-01-12 11:56 pm (UTC)Prison Break is awesome -- the lead chappie whose name I can't remember is gorgeous and the show can be edge-of-your-seat exciting. The brother? Eh. I see no slashiness between the two, but that could be because I find his (the older brother's) character annoying in the extreme. Other than that, though, I love the show.

Date: 2006-01-12 11:39 pm (UTC)I really hope I can get the folders back. I mean, I've found them, they're sitting in the programme taunting me. It's just moving that step to actually retrieve them. But if that fails, I'll totally hit you up for the mails you have.
Thanks for the offer, and the congratulations :)

Date: 2006-01-13 10:12 am (UTC)Have you put a copy of them in another location? You should, just to keep them safe.
And when you're done and you have everything back, you could try instead of Outlook. Much less evil.

Hmm. There was supposed to be a link to Thunderbird. I must've messed up the tags.

Date: 2006-01-13 09:48 am (UTC)Sorry to hear about the computer hassles. I can't say I've ever had that problem with Outlook (Express). Hopefully you can still retrieve everything.
But hey, you're doing great healthwise! And that's way more important :D
*smooch*

Date: 2006-01-13 12:47 pm (UTC)See, that's the thing. I love outlook and I know the only reason it's done this is because I was an idiot and manually deleted things that shouldn't have been touched. What can I say? I'm not the brightest at times.
YAY! I am good! How about you? I haven't seen you for millions of years again!
*smooches you*

Date: 2006-01-13 06:10 pm (UTC)JC was on the computer and Chris was watching the game. the soft clicking sounds had become background noise and chris didn't even hear them until they stopped and JC let out a soft, incredulous, "Ooops."
"Whaddaya mean, 'oops'?" Chris asked without looking away from the screen.
JC looked at Chris with a frazzled expression on his face, "Oh, um. Nothing! Nothing at all. I just had a little---" the computer made a single upset beep and JC's eyes widenend. "Wow. Fuck. Um. Chris?"
"JC." Chris muted the game and looked up, "JC what did you do?"
JC was busy alternately pushing buttons and looking pained, but looked at Chris with a look of mild panic, before returning to pushing buttons.
"JC?"
"SHHH!" JC said but then realized that pushing buttons was not helping, and threw up his hands in frustration.
"Okay, okay, move." Chris said and pushed JC's chair so it rolled out of the way.
"You know, it isn't really nice of you to torture old Silver like this. He's served you well, you should be nice to him." Chris said, and then shook his head. He'd just talked about JC's computer like it was a live creature.
Living with JC had rubbed off on him.
JC, however, just nodded, all big, grave eyes and pouty lips. Chris sighed and stopped whatever the hell it was JC had done, and tried to assess the damage. He sighed.
"Jayce, for fuck's sake." JC nodded again, and timidly rolled his chair closer. "Is he going to be okay?" he asked, as if they were talking about a pet.
"Yes, JC, your computer will be alright. And those---" Chris peered at the screen, "10,000 mails you deleted will be alright too. I know Lance has a program that can get stuff like that back."
JC jumped up and hugged Chris close, raining tiny, relived kisses all over his face. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" he said, and Chris smiled and hugged him back.
Just another day in the life.
