Normally I'm all about sitting on that fence and not making waves, but I've just skimmed the flist, and that meme about gay rights that's going around pisses me off. Big time.

Especially this part. If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks.

So, if I decide not to copy paste a block of words into my journal I'm this uncaring thing that doesn't give a damn?

The people I read on here, I read them because I like them, I know what they believe. I don't need a mass posted thing to try and guilt me into doing the same.

I get the sentiment. I really do. But the wording?

I'm going to regret posting this I know. Should have just vented to friends, but sometimes that fence gets uncomfortable.

If it helps any, I don't think it was deliberately phrased so badly.

Ah well.

I'm choosing to ignore this one. If people don't realize that I'm about as pro-gay as it's possible to be, they obviously don't know me, lol.

Yeah, I think that too. It's just so insulting the way it is phrased. I'm not going to post it, does that make me some kind of homophobe? Will five seconds of time to copy paste something make me a better pro-gay person?

If people don't realize that I'm about as pro-gay as it's possible to be, they obviously don't know me, lol

Exactly!

The whole thing annoys me no end.

I don't see why you should regret anything. That's dreadful wording. I never copy/paste those things, because I feel no need to clutter up my friends' flist with the same thing over and over again. I haven't seen that particular one, but I think it's pretty obvious that I believe in gay rights, and I wouldn't repost it.

Mainly because I'm a wimp with stuff like this. I always imagine a mass defriending, especially because a lot of my flist have posted the meme. A wimp and irrational, that's me *g*

Which is why I posted this. I had to scroll past a mass of them, all implying I'd be some bad uncaring person if I didn't post the thing in my own journal.

Which, no way. Like I commented above, see me for my long time words and actions, not my ability to copy paste.

It's all about effort I think. It's easy to copy paste a meme, post it and think that you've done your bit. Actually posting something well thought out, something you deeply believe and have put work into crafting. Then posting to people who need to see that message, not other flist people, the great majority of who will be slashers or slash friendly.

Like I said, too much effort.

Hey, I totally agree with you and I posted it without reading the second part carefully, I just liked the first quote.
As I told someone who ranted about this in my lj, I know all of my flisters care about the issue, whetever they copy-paste text or not. I'm thinking seriously about editing that second part, although I'm not sure how... because you're right, it should not say that -and I don't know about anyone else, but I'm feeling bad at not reading it more carefully.
So don't feel bad at venting, it's a good thing -and you were a lot better wording your anger than some other people.

So with you. Also the whole thing sounds a little bit heterocentrist in its making to me, just because, you know, I was face-deep in pussy on Friday night and and it would never even have occured to me that that would require me to post some lame-ass sentence to confirm that who/what I was sleeping with at the time really is a-ok and everybody should be happy about it, and how dare anyone demand that?

Maybe I need to start a meme demanding that everyone confirm that they really, really believe in real love 'til death does them part complete with 2.4 children, as a close approximation of "straight" rights, which, needless to say, we must also support.

I hate the fact that I even had to acknowledge it, because it cropped up in my comms, with tons of friends and with people whom I know but don't even know politely, until I had a good two pages of flist with the same thing over and over again. It was kinda like this one commercial that is playing in the states for a while about medicine for headaches.

head on, apply directly to the forehead

And this is just like it.
