I'm worried this morning.

My mam phoned last night as her dog Brock is ill. Well I say her dog, he's a family dog really. He's 15 so he's been there over half of my life. I only live a minutes walk from my mam's house so I see him everyday. He's lovely, this brown and white mutant Yorkshire Terrier. He's a mutant because he's much bigger than the normal Yorkie, and his ears stick straight up. That's him in my icon above.

He's had arthritis for a while, he has to take a tablet every day and cod liver capsules, and his whole body is covered in lumps and bumps. He gets tired a lot, but he'll still run after a ball and he's *happy* you know. He's the best dog and I love him so much.

Last night one side of his body seemed to collapse, his gums are hanging out of his mouth on one side, he doesn't want to walk. My mam and brother are taking him to the vets now to see what's wrong, but I really think he's had a stroke.

He's so old and I'm scared of what they'll say. I know he's only a dog but he's a *special* dog.

This isn't easy indeed. Dogs aren't just dogs for us, I mean, they share our lives after all, and they love unconditionally.

Hard as it is though, sometimes we have to take in account the fact that putting them to sleep may be better for them. We really have to see above our love for us, and see if staying in the state they are in is actually a *life* for them. I don't really know what it feels though, my dog is in perfect health for the moment, and I do hope we won't have to take any decision like this for a *long* long time... if not ever.

Hopefully, it'll just a minor stroke and the dog will feel better?

*Hugs* Fifteen's a grand old age for a dog, even one of the little ones. It's *so* hard letting them go, it hurts like hell. But, you know, those little bundles of unconditional love keep on loving you even if you put them to sleep.

*sniff* You've got me teary here, because I'm remembering the dogs I've loved who aren't around anymore.

*Hugs again*

That's what I love so much about them. It doesn't matter what you do, your dog will love you.

Yeah, I agree despite how bad it makes me feel to say that. I'd hate to think he was in bad pain. Love goes two ways and that means I wouldn't want anything to happen to him that would hurt him in any way. It doesn't make the decision any easier though :(

I keep thinking that. He's had such a long life for a dog. He's been there when I was at school, then college, then setting up home on my own. It's hard to remember when he wasn't there.

Dogs can be the best. I've had a few tears thinking about the one we had as a kid. Such great memories, I hope yours are as good for your old dogs.

Thanks for the hugs. They helped a lot.

I will. All I'm doing now is crossing my fingers that the cyst will drain this weekend. If anyone deserves a chance it's Brock.

Thanks for the hugs.

Thanks Alee. All I keep thinking is he's lasted all this long. He's tough, I just hope he can keep that toughness going.

Thanks for the support. It means a lot.

Always, hon. May not have a dog right now, but we have four cats, one of them with us since her birth, and I'd just *die* if anything happened to any of them.

Would you like me to light some incense or burn a candle for Brock?

I'm glad you understand. I know some people think animals are just that, but they're so much more. I hope all your cats stay healthy and happy for a long time.

I'd love that, thank you. He needs all the help he can get just now, from any source. You've made me all teary by offering for a dog that you don't even know. He's got people rooting for him all over the world. He, and I, are so lucky.
