Aug. 14th, 2003 03:03 pmI'm turning into a stroppy bitch in my old age. There's someone just now that's really annoying me in fandom, she seems to be everyone of my lists, not the person I was getting riled about last month btw.
What set me off today is the attitude that slash *has* to have actual sex, then going on about having an admiration for gen writers that can write long and involved stories without any sex.
I have no words.
This is only my opinion, but slash is not just about sex scenes. It's about touching, holding hands, making out, cuddling, loving one another and desire. Yes, sex is good, I adore hot monkey sex. The kind thats damp, messy, hard and dirty. That's awesome, and sometimes a PWP is all I want to read. But it's not the be all and end all.
I'm also taking exception that it's hard to write something complicated and long without sex. Though this might just be me over reacting. All I can say is WTF! I write gen and slash, I'm bi-fictional in reading and writing, and I know that it's just as hard to write something with sex as without it. Is it easier to write something because you can slap a sex scene in it? No it's not, in fact out of my slash stories most don't have explicit sex because it wasn't needed.
Okay, I suppose I could write a fit tab A into slot B sex scene and that would waste a page or two, that would make writing easier. But I don't want to. I just can't see why long involved stories need to be admired more because there's no sex. Admire them for what they are, don't give them extra points because there's no sex.
Also a MPREG fest? Why?! There's *very* few MPREG's I can deal with, the thought of lists full of badly written, weepy men turning into stereotypical women makes me want to claw out my eyes with a spork. I know some people love them, and I have read some that are okay, but most make me shudder.
Apparently I'm turning into an elitist bitch...sigh.

Date: 2003-08-15 06:19 am (UTC)You know, I never understood why the heck would someone write a man pregnant? They can't getting pregnant. Basic biology here. *g*
I really don't understand the motivation behind it.
Anyway, slash = sex? No, that formula isn't working. *g* Slash is about "a couple" (please, don't ask "a couple of *what* ;-) ) and that includes sex. Occasionally. Not all the time. And surely not necessarily *all* the time. *g*
It would be a pretty sad couple if all that is between them would be sex, right? *g*

Date: 2003-08-21 08:14 am (UTC)At the risk of using a blanket statement I suspect that it's to do with femming characters, and I hate that. I don't want to see Blair bare foot and pregnant *shudder*

I agree. Sex is great but it couldn't substain a healthy relationship.

Date: 2003-08-15 08:03 pm (UTC)What a ridiculous attitude. Someone should introduce her to Brighid's beautifully written, PG-rated slash stories.

Exactly! For me, it's about Jim and Blair, in love. Not every story has to have sex in it, and not every author is comfortable writing sex scenes. And as much as I love a good, well written sex scene, I'd rather read a well written PG rated story than a badly written NC-17 any day.
Also a MPREG fest?
Um, just one word: Why?

Hee we're doing the agreeing thing again, but yes, exactly! Love isn't sex. Plus I've read far too many bad sex scenes. The ones that are all slot this into that and thrust.

You tell me. Like I said, I've read some MPREG's that are okay, but those were in Trek where in theory it's possible. But most seem to be the ultimate femming of a male character.
