I'm turning into a stroppy bitch in my old age. There's someone just now that's really annoying me in fandom, she seems to be everyone of my lists, not the person I was getting riled about last month btw.
What set me off today is the attitude that slash *has* to have actual sex, then going on about having an admiration for gen writers that can write long and involved stories without any sex.
I have no words.
This is only my opinion, but slash is not just about sex scenes. It's about touching, holding hands, making out, cuddling, loving one another and desire. Yes, sex is good, I adore hot monkey sex. The kind thats damp, messy, hard and dirty. That's awesome, and sometimes a PWP is all I want to read. But it's not the be all and end all.
I'm also taking exception that it's hard to write something complicated and long without sex. Though this might just be me over reacting. All I can say is WTF! I write gen and slash, I'm bi-fictional in reading and writing, and I know that it's just as hard to write something with sex as without it. Is it easier to write something because you can slap a sex scene in it? No it's not, in fact out of my slash stories most don't have explicit sex because it wasn't needed.
Okay, I suppose I could write a fit tab A into slot B sex scene and that would waste a page or two, that would make writing easier. But I don't want to. I just can't see why long involved stories need to be admired more because there's no sex. Admire them for what they are, don't give them extra points because there's no sex.
Also a MPREG fest? Why?! There's *very* few MPREG's I can deal with, the thought of lists full of badly written, weepy men turning into stereotypical women makes me want to claw out my eyes with a spork. I know some people love them, and I have read some that are okay, but most make me shudder.
Apparently I'm turning into an elitist bitch...sigh.
