James is suddenly obsessed with crosswords. He buys the puzzle magazines and sends off the competitions, which fine, except he seems to think I'm a walking trivia book. When he gets started not a minute goes by without him asking how to spell something, or is this person has a rose named after them, and, how am I supposed to know? It's a good thing that my Google Fu is strong.

Also, the MiL was on my hit list this morning. Saturday is the only day I get to lie in, which is something I've been looking forward to, because I've been so tired this week. This morning there's a phone call, the answering machine picks up and it's the MiL calling and telling James to phone as soon as he could. Minutes later she phones again, and I'm all, OMG, someone died! because she just doesn't call normally. It turns out that she needed a ladder bringing to her house and as we have the biggest car, well we get the job. But what got me was the FiL had already gone to pick it up and was waiting until we could take him and the ladder home. What would they have done if we'd gone out for the day? Towed it back tied to the MiL's mobility scooter? That plus discovering BT have cut our phone line to incoming calls only again made for a frustrating morning.

I was checking the flist earlier and saw my little MCR story had been included in [livejournal.com profile] dotcoms_refresh and I had a moment of dorky eeeepatude, because how did they know?

Sort of related, I've been enjoying all the Panic squee on the flist/friendsfriends lately. Panic still haven't managed to get their hook in me, but still, fannish glee is awesome.

Also, this is something I've been wondering about. In popslash BSB and Nsync are labelled together as popslash, yet in reality they're two totally different fandoms. Sure, there's a cross over of some fans, but the two groups of fans remain very distinct. So, is it like that in bandom? Are the MCR, FOB, Panic fans ( the biggest three as far as I see ) separate or just one mixed up bunch?

6 minutes until I download the final part of my next Without a Trace episode. I swear I've been like a junkie for this show lately. I need more, now!

ETA: James was just reading out a list of the new scout badges, one of which is advanced aviation. Somehow I don't think many of those will be given out.

Panic are my babies. *coos* RYDEN DIRTY FOR EVER (aka Brendon/Ryan is teh sex )

After MCR love that is.

I've been in bandom for over a year now and as far as I'm concerned it's just one mixed bunch. In the end it's all bandom related. ( P.S. The Academy Is... is pretty big with in the bandom fandom as well BUT those three mentioned are the biggest for sure. )

Sorry about the MiL deal. That's a horrible suckfest right there.

I'm not sure why Panic haven't grabbed me as hard as MCR and FOB. I suppose some of it is their music isn't really played here that often, and it was through their music I first found the other two. Still, they are a very good looking group, and what I have heard is good, so who knows?

Just one mixed bunch is cool. I wish popslash were more like that, but somehow I doubt that will ever change now.

Man, the whole morning was a suckfest. Stupid ladders.

Actually, *snifflepout* I wanna know why 98 Degrees is always left out. ;-) Mentally, I always lump the three of them together.

Well, for me the answer is I don't really know them well, apart from characters in MHT's stories. Don't kill me! *g*

But no, it is a valid point. Technically all the popgroups should be included under the popslash banner. Point made and made well :D

Also, heh. Yeah, I don't think the aviation badge will get a lot of play, at least not at my socio-economic level. *blinks*

Sadly if I have a nap now I'll never sleep tonight, but man, I could do with one. I suspect it'll be an early night tonight, that is if I leave my handheld downstairs and don't read WaT fic until 3am again *g*

I really don't know where the aviation badge came from, I mean, some of the new ones make sense. Like PR and computer based, signs of the time and all that, but the aviation just boggles me?

Advanced aviation??!?? *boggles* How on earth would one go about earning that badge??? *boggles again*

Yeah, I think it's pretty much as [livejournal.com profile] dark_sanction said, one big mix in bandslash. Though of course some people mostly fan Fall Out Boy/Panic/TAI/Cobra/all the other bands on Pete's label and don't care for MCR and vice versa. And I guess it all gets complicated by what people think about the music versus what kind of fic they like. I mean, I started out with Patrick and FOB and in the beginning I mostly read Patrick/Pete but when I discovered MCR (through crossover fic of course and then their music :-) I felt much more at home there.

Exactly! It's so stupid.

One big mix is cool, though I can see how the split could be between the decaydance bands and not. ( Incidentally, it was only recently I clicked that his label wasn't actually called daycaredance. How I saw that and not the actual word I'll never know )

I felt much more at home there.

Yep, I can understand that.

It's more like there are two factions of bandom - the MCR/FOB/Panic/FBR bands and then Every Other Band Ever. People who slash, I dunno, Bon Jovi and U2 and other bands are kinda peeved that most of us use the terms bandom and bandslash to refer exclusively to the FBR bands plus MCR.

But as far as MCR/FOB/PATD/FBR, I've only found it to be one big happy family.

I hear you, just five minutes ago I had to google the names of the three mousketeers for my parents who are doing a crossword puzzle.

Ahahaha, daycaredance! You'd think a label named like that would be aiming for a somewhat younger audience...

edit: see, popslash has ruined me for life. I can no longer spell musketeer right.

But yeah, crossword puzzles just aren't fun when all you're doing is looking up clues.

I totally thought it was daycaredance for the longest time. It was only a few weeks ago I double took when I realised it was decaydance, which makes more sense, but just isn't as much fun *g*

I always thought of popslash as a big umbrella for NSYNC, BSB, O-Town, 98 Degrees, Nelly, Brit, Christina, Pink, and Eminem. I'm sure I'm missing someone, but you get what I mean. It's just NSYNC and BSB fans kept themselves pretty separate over the years, with a group of crossover fans in the middle somewhere. Like a Venn diagram. :)

I do get what you mean, and you're right, as well as giving me mental pictures as fandom as a venn diagram.

It does make me wonder why BSB and Nsync did keep separate though. Probably too many fans buying into the whole rivalry thing back in the day, which is a shame.

I must swap my group Nsync icon again, but I like this one :(

i feel like that old lady in "bandom". heh.

"bandom" nowadays kind of lumps all bands related to in some aspect to pete wentz.

there's decaydance bands, mcr, and the others. but they all tend to get lumped together. some people like it lumped together others don't.

i'm just kind of eh about the term. i accept and use it, but i tend to see them as separate bands mentally. ;)

The term trips me up I have to admit. I mean, there was all those posts with people saying that the fandom should be called this or called that, and now I have no idea what to call it. Maybe the fandom where everyone looks at you sideways and says, don't leave us! *g*

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] withdiamonds, I see both popslash and bandom more like a bunch of overlapping sets in a venn diagram. Not everyone is interested in/likes all bands, and some overlap more than others (eg not as many people seem to be into the Long Island bands like Taking Back Sunday and Brand New). But they're all lumped together under the umbrella term bandom.

There is a lot of overlap with the core Decaydance/FBR bands (FOB, Panic, TAI, Cobra, Gym Class Heroes, Hush Sound) plus MCR, but [livejournal.com profile] damnyouwentz doesn't include MCR, for example, but does include All American Rejects (which aren't a Decaydance/FBR band).

Madame Zuleika sees all, knows all! - Okay, I don't know exactly how they found you, but word of good stories gets out, my dear. It gets out. :)

I know there are definitely people who are devotees of one band and abjure all the others, but I myself found it physically impossible to ignore FOB and Panic and TAI and Cobra Starship, once I'd gotten into MCR. The bands themselves have such close ties in canon that I felt I couldn't even understand half the stories if I didn't know the rest of the suspects. Whereas Nsync and Backstreet were a lot more standoffish with each other back in the day. (Of course, now that JC's working with the Boys, there's the potential for more canon-based "crossover"...)
