James is suddenly obsessed with crosswords. He buys the puzzle magazines and sends off the competitions, which fine, except he seems to think I'm a walking trivia book. When he gets started not a minute goes by without him asking how to spell something, or is this person has a rose named after them, and, how am I supposed to know? It's a good thing that my Google Fu is strong.
Also, the MiL was on my hit list this morning. Saturday is the only day I get to lie in, which is something I've been looking forward to, because I've been so tired this week. This morning there's a phone call, the answering machine picks up and it's the MiL calling and telling James to phone as soon as he could. Minutes later she phones again, and I'm all, OMG, someone died! because she just doesn't call normally. It turns out that she needed a ladder bringing to her house and as we have the biggest car, well we get the job. But what got me was the FiL had already gone to pick it up and was waiting until we could take him and the ladder home. What would they have done if we'd gone out for the day? Towed it back tied to the MiL's mobility scooter? That plus discovering BT have cut our phone line to incoming calls only again made for a frustrating morning.
I was checking the flist earlier and saw my little MCR story had been included in
dotcoms_refresh and I had a moment of dorky eeeepatude, because how did they know?
Sort of related, I've been enjoying all the Panic squee on the flist/friendsfriends lately. Panic still haven't managed to get their hook in me, but still, fannish glee is awesome.
Also, this is something I've been wondering about. In popslash BSB and Nsync are labelled together as popslash, yet in reality they're two totally different fandoms. Sure, there's a cross over of some fans, but the two groups of fans remain very distinct. So, is it like that in bandom? Are the MCR, FOB, Panic fans ( the biggest three as far as I see ) separate or just one mixed up bunch?
6 minutes until I download the final part of my next Without a Trace episode. I swear I've been like a junkie for this show lately. I need more, now!
ETA: James was just reading out a list of the new scout badges, one of which is advanced aviation. Somehow I don't think many of those will be given out.

Date: 2008-01-12 07:03 pm (UTC)Panic are my babies. *coos* RYDEN DIRTY FOR EVER (aka Brendon/Ryan is teh sex )
After MCR love that is.
Are the MCR, FOB, Panic fans ( the biggest three as far as I see ) separate or just one mixed up bunch?
I've been in bandom for over a year now and as far as I'm concerned it's just one mixed bunch. In the end it's all bandom related. ( P.S. The Academy Is... is pretty big with in the bandom fandom as well BUT those three mentioned are the biggest for sure. )
Sorry about the MiL deal. That's a horrible suckfest right there.

Date: 2008-01-12 07:15 pm (UTC)Just one mixed bunch is cool. I wish popslash were more like that, but somehow I doubt that will ever change now.
Man, the whole morning was a suckfest. Stupid ladders.

Slowly but surely she got sucked in though
YAY for converting new fans!

One big mix is cool, though I can see how the split could be between the decaydance bands and not. ( Incidentally, it was only recently I clicked that his label wasn't actually called daycaredance. How I saw that and not the actual word I'll never know )
I felt much more at home there.
Yep, I can understand that.

~*~*~*~
It takes weeks of planning, but finally Hemmy is slipping out of the bus. Quiet, oh so quiet, padding past Pete who’s sitting in his bunk, headphones on and laptop open on his bent knees.
When he steps from metal steps to tarmac -- still warm in memory of the heat of the day – Hemmy tilts back his head. His jowls flapping as he sniffs, beer and grass and food, all overlain with the faint sour scent of vomit, his domain presented in a variety of distinguishable smells.
He draws in more air, spittle dropping to the ground as he shakes his head, then slowly begins to walk. The route is a familiar one, past the tree with the ingrained smell of bitch, the patch of grass that tickles against his paws, until finally he arrives
Hemmy sits heavily and flops down on his belly, his head resting on his outstretched front legs. He rolls up his eyes and peers at the bus, patiently waiting, until finally he hears a faint meow.
There’s a faint scrabble of nails against glass, then Bunny is sliding through an open window, her body flattening impossibly small to get out of the gap. She jumps, landing on all four paws, looking superior, proud, until she gets close, and Hemmy smells the agitation, and the suspicious scent of glittery gel.
“He made me wear a furry hood. With ears!”
Hemmy concentrates hard, cat is a hard language to master, all harsh mews and low tones, and Bunny is talking fast, her tail swishing through the air, but he gets the gist, especially when he notices the glitter sparkling on her coat, and the way her hair sticks up crazily on her head.
Hemmy sighs deeply, lumbering to his feet. “Last week Pete made me wear a dress.” He hesitates then, feeling the tell tail heat of a blush blossom beneath his fur. “It had feathers, like I was some kind of chicken.”
Bunny spits, her back arched. “The plan, we do it tomorrow.”
“I agree,” Hemmy says, stepping to one side as Bunny flashes her tail past his eyes. “Tomorrow they pay.”
~*~*~*~
Comfortable on the sofa, Hammy listens to Pete talk, enjoying the soft lilt of his voice, the way he smells of joy when Patrick laughs at something he says. Pete’s hand is on Hemmy’s belly, scratching at that perfect spot, and Hemmy is almost delirious with happiness, because he loves Pete, unconditionally, devotedly, except he can still remember pink dresses and more importantly, the swish of an angry tail. Those memories steel his resolve, and with a last wiggle under Pete’s hand, he jumps from the sofa, making for the open door.
Stepping outside, he looks around, eventually seeing Bunny sitting on top of the bus, sunning herself, her legs outstretched as she flexes her claws.
“At last, I thought you were going to stay there all day.” Bunny stands, stretches, and jumps to the ground. “I take it you remember the plan?”
Resisting the urge to roll his eyes, Hemmy contends himself with nodding his head. He may be dog, but that doesn’t mean he’s stupid.
“Good.” Bunny inclines her head, superior as always. “I’ll go get Mikey.” She starts to walk away, then stops, looking at Hemmy with wide eyes. “We’re doing the right thing right, he won’t be hurt, because…”
“It’ll be fine,” Hemmy interrupts, because he knows how she feels, can smell how much she loves Mikey, despite the indignities he subjects her to almost every day.
“Yes, yes. It’ll be fine.” All traces of doubt abruptly gone, Bunny fixes Hemmy with a look, then slinks away.
Hemmy waits then, listening to the birds that flap over head, sniffs at some shoes before cocking his leg, marking them as his own.
“Hemmy!” A hiss of sound, and Hemmy looks up and sees Bunny peering from under a nearby bus. “He’s coming, do it now!”
Heart thudding, Hemmy immediately began to bark, putting everything into his act as he gallops forward, his mouth open as if he wants to tear something apart. It’s a great performance, and it should be, he’s Pete Wentz’s dog, and has learned how to perform at his master’s side. All the while Bunny hisses and mews, her voice rising, and Hemmy isn’t surprised at all when Mikey comes running into view, looking concerned as he chases after his cat.
2/3
Date: 2008-01-13 07:47 pm (UTC)Hemmy doesn’t stop. Instead he runs faster, drool flying from his mouth as he’s caught in the thrill of the chase, following Bunny as she makes for their target. A tree that stretches over a small pond.
“Bunny!”
“Hemmy!”
They’re close behind, and Hemmy is glad to wiggle through the fence, snarling as he leaps at the tree, his nails digging into the bark as Bunny sits high above, looking calm and collected, and winking once when both Pete and Mikey arrive.
“Hemmy, stop!”
Pete grabs hold of Hemmy’s collar, and pulls. Which is fine, Hemmy’s role is over now, all he has to do is watch as Bunny tries to prove she really is a Way, over dramatic to the extreme.
“Look at her, she’s terrified.” Mikey is standing at the foot of the tree, hair flopping into his eyes as he looks up at Bunny, who’s clinging to a branch, her hair sticking up on end, and looking nothing more than she’s about to jump out of her own skin. “You need to go get her.”
“What?!” Pete keeps one hand on Hemmy’s back, crouched over as he looks up at Mikey. “She got up there, she can get down.”
“She’s frightened.” Mikey doesn’t even look at Pete, just keeps watching Bunny, his shoulders hunched and mouth curled down.
Pete’s hand stills, and Hemmy can’t help a snort of happiness, because he knows Pete, knows how much he cares for Mikey, and that extends to climbing trees for him, like some kind of cat saving hero.
3/3
Date: 2008-01-13 07:48 pm (UTC)Mikey frowns. “I haven’t. I mean, they were worried I’d fall out, so.”
Pete smiles slightly and rests his hand against Mikey’s arm, understanding the jumble of words. “I’ll go up, you can watch.”
In a flash of movement, Pete jumps, and this is exactly what they’d planned, but Hemmy can’t help the soft howl, because it’s his Pete, climbing high.
The tree sways as Pete climbs but when he’s at Bunny’s level, legs clinging to the trunk, reaching out, he still can’t quite reach, despite how far out he stretches, seemingly unconcerned with the fall to the floor.
Mikey seems concerned too, pacing, his hand shading his eyes against the mid day sun.
“I’m coming up.”
“No,” Pete says, but it’s too late, Mikey is already climbing, knees scraping against the trunk, clinging on and hauling himself up until Pete reaches down, holding Mikey securely until he’s seated on a branch.
They sit close, breathing heavily as the tree shakes, and Hemmy wants to finish this. He’s relieved when Bunny looks at him, arching a brow before she suddenly meows pathetically before backing along the branch.
It’s no surprise when Pete looks at Mikey before inching after her, and it’s no surprise when Mikey follows him. Because they’re Hemmy and Bunny’s humans, and they’d discussed every action that Pete and Mikey were bound to take.
It’s why the tree branches out over the pond, the water filmed with green stinking algae, the banks made of slippery mud. It’s why Bunny is inching back even further, slowly; her eyes open wide with pretend fear. It’s why Hemmy rolls his eyes as they keep on following her, despite the branch dipping, bending toward the floor.
“Now!” Hemmy suddenly barks, and Bunny jumps, clearing the pond with one mighty leap. Mikey and Pete aren’t so lucky. Startled, they wave their arms comically, groping for purchase in the air as they slip to the side, landing in the pond with a huge splash.
Barking with excitement, Hemmy watches as they sit, algae clinging to their faces, their clothes drenched as they look at one another, silent for seconds before they both laugh.
“We did it!” For once Bunny willingly lets loose her ungraceful side, and she jumps in place, looking satisfied as Mikey wrings out his hair, and Pete pulls out a lump of something green that’s lodged between his teeth. “Now they know how we feel.”
Hemmy nods his head, because they do look ridiculous as they attempt to stand, only to fall back into the water with a cascade of water against the bank. But as he watches Pete pulls a twig from Mikey’s hair, and Mikey use the back of his hand to wipe at Pete’s face, Hemmy wonders if they even care at all. They don’t seem to, just keep laughing as they help each other out of the pond, stinking and soaked and holding hands as they squelch through the mud.
“That was my plan all the time,” Bunny says, and she’s looking at Mikey, her expression soft. “It’s time he moved on.”
Which is something Hemmy agrees with, but he says nothing, just looks at Bunny with a knowing curl of his lip before making for the fence, and the walk back home.
Re: 3/3
Date: 2008-01-13 08:02 pm (UTC)(Despite the Mikey/Pete! Because that means that PATRICK can get up to something with Gerard and/or Bob and/or Frank without having to worry about keeping Pete out of trouble :-)
Re: 3/3
Date: 2008-01-13 08:09 pm (UTC)The Mikey/Pete just slipped in, I had no intention of going there, and then Mikey was so scared for his cat and they were in the tree and then the water and I guess the crossover vibe was strong *g*
Hmmm, I approve of your last thought :D

Date: 2008-01-12 09:52 pm (UTC)"bandom" nowadays kind of lumps all bands related to in some aspect to pete wentz.
there's decaydance bands, mcr, and the others. but they all tend to get lumped together. some people like it lumped together others don't.
i'm just kind of eh about the term. i accept and use it, but i tend to see them as separate bands mentally. ;)

Date: 2008-01-13 03:08 am (UTC)I know there are definitely people who are devotees of one band and abjure all the others, but I myself found it physically impossible to ignore FOB and Panic and TAI and Cobra Starship, once I'd gotten into MCR. The bands themselves have such close ties in canon that I felt I couldn't even understand half the stories if I didn't know the rest of the suspects. Whereas Nsync and Backstreet were a lot more standoffish with each other back in the day. (Of course, now that JC's working with the Boys, there's the potential for more canon-based "crossover"...)

Yeah, that happened in MtYG with all the letterboys requests. Again, it's a trend I approve of.
