I threw an old fan out yesterday. Within minutes one of the people on our estate knocked on the door asking if she could have it. So I told her that it didn't work, that it didn't have a guard over the blades and the feet were wobbly. Really not safe at all. This morning I woke up, let the dog in the garden and discovered someone had been in the garden and took it. Which while I'm not mad that it's gone, I am sick of people coming into the garden and taking things. I mean, we didn't go to bed until one, were up at seven so they must have been sneaking around in the middle of the night. I just hope they don't mangle their fingers.

The two stories I'm working on? I'm about to chop a load of words from one of them. The story needs it though and once I've added the new stuff it'll be much stronger. But still....

I tell you, the adrenaline rush of working on fic that's due in the matter of days, you can't beat it.

I've fallen in love with Panic performing The Weight. So much love, seriously.

ETA: Downloads for the song plus Nine in the Afternoon and I Write Sins mp3s in comments.

And that's all I have.

There's something so wrong about people stepping onto your property and taking things - even if it is being discarded! I really don't get what gets into people!

I don't either. It's such a sucky thing to do, and while this time it was something we'd thrown away we've had other stuff taken too we did want.

Thank you, Terri!

It's crazy that people would come onto your property and take things! Even if you don't want it anymore, they have no way of knowing that. Here, if you have something you don't want anymore and want someone to take it, you put it on the curb. On the curb = fair game. ANYWHERE ELSE = no touching!

Our garbage pickup is on Mondays and there is this guy that drives by late Sundays and takes stuff from the garbage piles. We put our garbage on the curb so at least we don't have people in our yard. I have to laugh at the things that people take. I've put out a computer (in which I've removed the harddrive) and it was taken. Two weeks ago an old lamp was taken. We even have guessing contests on what will get taken. Nobody ever came to our door and asked.

Some people are just weird. It makes you wonder what they do with stuff like that, especially the things that doesn't work. Still, you'd think they'd ask at least. It's only polite.

Date: 2008-07-08 05:57 pm (UTC)

At least it's getting used and not going into a landfill. Most stuff (old lamps) can be fixed and reused.
I use to put stuff out in cardboard boxes a few days before garbage day so that I'd feel better about not hauling it to the salvation army.

I wouldn't knock on someone's door if something was in the garbage, I'd just take it. Of course that's only if it was clearly garbage and out at the curb, not hanging out beside their house or in their garden.

Hee! I thought exactly the same thing as [livejournal.com profile] woolly_socks. And then I thought of Lance in that interview saying "I think our Menudo age should be thirty."

I can kind of understand people taking things which are going to be thrown away, but coming into your garden to do it is just *rude*.

Poor old fans, kicked out of fandom when they hit a certain age. So sad. Though it does give me a funny mental image.

Yeah, it is rude and I hate the idea that someone was out there sneaking around at night. As soon as we can afford it I think we'll get some solid screens to block the fence so people can't see in.

Maybe one of your neighbors sells scrap to junkyards? Is your house the only one that's been targeted? You may want to raise or reinforce the fencing around your perimeter. Look out in the following weeks to see which neighbor has scraped fingers -- that's probably the culprit.

I wouldn't be surprised, because the thing really was useless. I'll be keeping an eye on people for sure.

As for the fence. It's a 6 foot one anyway, but it's also open slats and the gate is really easily pushed open. We need to fix that asap.

I hate to cut words - it's like every word I write is golden and how can I possibly get rid of them? In the way that it's not, of course.

Yes, just a few days left to finish a story is always very exciting.

I had to cut nearly 3,000 this morning. I could make a story out of those, okay, a bad story but a story all the same.

But it was the right thing to do, and I'm glad I've got people that will say, you know that sort of sucks and makes no sense.

Yes, just a few days left to finish a story is always very exciting.

I suspect all fic writers say that, so when it's the night before deadline, you're on coffee number 78992632 and still have many many words to go you can say, it's fun really *g*

Totally understandable. It's creepy, and isn't it also stealing? I mean, it's still on your property, it only stops being yours when it's picked up by the garbage people, isn't that right? I think that's how it is.

Could you put up some sort of private property sign telling people to stay the hell out of your garden?

I'd be creeped out and annoyed that I couldn't put anything out there temporarily without the fear of having it taken.
