As I've just been reminded of this.
It's no secret that I love Christmas. I love the lights and the decorations and the tree and pretty much everything about it. Included in that love is SeSa. Or to use its official name. Make the Yuletide Gay.
This is the popslash fandoms secret santa story swap challenge, and it's awesome.
I've been discussing this with
llamabitchyo, talking about past years, because I have such vivid memories of my SeSa experiences, both good and the not so good.
I've received fantastic stories. Chris and JC were salt and pepper shakers! \o/
I've wanted to go, nooooooo!!! Why!? when getting some assignments. Sure, I'll write JuC for one of the best and most loved JuC writers out there, why not? *head desk*
I've had amazing mentors and mentored in return.
In order of taking part have written JoeC, JuC, Timbertrick, Trickyfish and Bassez.
I've scrapped a story close to deadline and written something completely new.
I've written well into the night and hated a story so much if I could I'd have physically burnt the thing.
And also fallen in love with a story as I was writing it.
It's one of the times when fandom seems to pull closer. We cheer or agonise over our assignments together. Discuss progress in vague ways. Meet each reminder with posts that range from Nooooo! to YAY! and every year there's that feeling of satisfaction when you hit post.
It's also a great challenge to take part in. People are there to cheer you on, encourage and help. Plus, you get a story crafted for you in return. How awesome is that? You too could request that epic story where JC is a scene queen who seduces Chris the security guy so they can have a threesome with Mikeyway. And if you do request that, come say hi. I think we should be friends.
If you're a newbie, if you've drifted away from the fandom, isn't this the perfect time to write again? I think so.
So go, join.

Date: 2008-10-23 04:19 pm (UTC)And yet, it would be a beautiful fandom tale wouldn't it? Something of a cross between Romeo and Juliet and The Gift of the Magi.
Aww, those tragic star-crossed ficcers.

And frankly, this sounds like WAY more fun than NaNoWriMo.

Date: 2008-10-23 04:41 pm (UTC)NaNoWriMo scares me! So many words!
no subject
Date: 2008-10-23 05:06 pm (UTC)NaNo's word count is totally doable - heck, if I can do it, I'm sure you could. Bob in Spaaaace! is proof of that.:)But it is pretty crazy...
