I have a new dream in life. To be one of those gardeners who look serene in a floppy hat as they snip at flowers with a pair of secateurs. Right now when I tackle my garden I come inside looking like I've been rolling in the dirt. I go to take a shower and soil falls out of my bra -- every single time -- and really, there may be room to plant potatoes in there but it doesn't mean I want to do so.

We've been to the garden centre this morning, getting flowers and more compost. And I tell you, I'm getting good at hefting compost bags around, if by good I mean I can stagger home from the car holding a corner of the compost bags in each hand. I've potted marigolds and some other flowers, put the peas in a wall container and need to re-pot the carrots again at some point.

On Sunday we moved the greenhouse down onto the actual garden now it's been de-junglefied. It's now outside the window that's next to my computer. Which may be a problem as I suspect the cucumber plant is actually a triffid in disguise. It's more than doubled in size in a week, one day I'm going to look to the side and see it marching toward me, its vines waving in a menacing manner.

Other than that there's been a lot of hanging out in the sun. We went to see the dads on Sunday, went with the in-laws to the beach and park, and was amused when my little nephew wanted Corey to take him on the miniature railway. I wish I'd had my camera to capture his expression as he sat trying to be cool while being towed on the back of a mini steam train.

I still haven't read a BBB story but have been working on the Bob/Mikey story. At this rate it may be finished for big bang sign up season next year.

I've just been commenting about summer songs and have been listening to Summer Hair Forever Young on repeat ever since. I love that song. I should really let it click to the next song, though. Maybe one more listen first -- or two.

Or even three.

Good luck with achieving your dream! From what I've ever heard it's the dream of everyone who's got a garden but it seems to be a very difficult state to reach.

I'm very evil, I'm giggling at your fear of the terrible cucumbers ;-P

LOL! Poor Corey, what a terrible situation to be in for a teenager!

[livejournal.com profile] au_bingo is a challenge I can wholeheartedly get beyond! Everyone should sign up!! You too!

Your weekend sounds really nice! I hope the cucumber plant does not start spitting poison though.

AU bingo was made for you!

Hee! Gardening is kneeling in the mud and sweating in the sun while wearing your ugliest clothes. :D But your garden sounds really promising, yay!

Ooooh I love the image of it... Like eating spaghetti with tomato sauce while wearing a white shirt and not get any tomato sauce on said shirt, it's an art. Good luck with it *g*

Yes! Exactly.

I suspect it's one of those things grown-ups do, and I'm obviously not there yet *g*

I used to have the same vision of myself, serenely harvesting from our garden, while speaking patiently to my children and playing with our well-behaved dogs.

Hahaha, yes.

It's like an impossible dream.

Reality is dirt, arguments and animals fighting and creating havoc.

I love that dream of yours. And I want pics of you on your garden.

Oh, I would love that too! I generally look like I have been dragged through a hedge backwards afterwards! Sounds like you are making loads of progress in the garden :-)!

I have to admit, it's good to know other people end up in the same state. It's a battle to be sure *g*

Yay garden work! :)

And speaking of your house, well kind of, would you mind me maybe visiting you a few days before Camp next year? You said at this year's Camp something along the line of that you wouldn't, but as I'm a batshit hug!attacker maybe you just wanted to agree with the crazy person?

This really made me laugh! I manage to get dirt smeared everywhere. And how come your fingernails get filthy even when you're wearing gardening gloves?

On the other hand, we had our first strawberry the other day and it was perfect and DELICIOUS.

I know, right?! My fingernails get disgusting. The dirt gets everywhere.

Hmmmm. I bet it was delicious. Ours are getting bigger by the day but are still green. I'm very impatient to taste them.

I...don't like dirt. I'll just be admiring your idyllic scene while I drink mint juleps from the porch, okay?

Hahaha! That part about gardening made me laugh. I don't have a garden and it makes me a little sad. :( (Living on a second floor would do that.)

I think the key to being that kind of whispy floaty lady gardener is to have hired a team of gardeners to do all the hard work for you - I always end up hot and sweaty and bleeding from scratches and covered in muck ...

I think you're right. Sadly as actually paying for gardeners is something I'll ever do I'll be like you and have to fight the earth.
