I have this whole backstory in my head that is basically about how Pony was dumped by Chibi on D's porch (so to speak) and D not wanting him, but Pony worming into his heart and how D raises him anyway and they become a family and then, then the Killjoys show up and Pony falls for stupid Party Poison (and he doesn't even like Party Poison!). Even if he made a promise to never love anyone/fall in love with anyone because people are dying faster than stupid baby-rabbits out here.
but ending up kissing it better anyway - it's a drastic thing to do, but sometimes a man has to do what a man has to do.
