turpsETA: I forgot I was going to link to castalie's poll ( LJ link ) I've known Castalie forever in internet terms and have no hesitation in pointing people toward her entry/poll, which in her words is about fan's participatory culture and transformative work as well as how fans claim and reclaim their spaces on-line.
I took a break from BRBB to work my way through the BFF fest stories, and thought I'd share my favourites.
While I love pairing stories, I do love gen too, and I think it's fantastic that people took the opportunity to write really excellent stories with no pairings involved at all while celebrating the BFFs that we have in our fandom. I do hope this is a challenge that runs again, and that next time I'll be able to take part.
In The Immortal Words of LMFAO (Party Rock Anthem) This is a story about Alex and Ryland and how they think they're getting old and jaded. It was such a fun read and made me laugh often.
Not Always Doing Business (But We're Always Open) A story about Gabe, William and Pete. I thought it had good insight into them all and I enjoyed reading it a lot.
The perfect places of sleep Oh, this story. It made my Way bro loving heart so happy. All the love for this. If you love the Way bros you really need to read it.
When The Smoke Cleared It's no secret that I'm over-invested in Spencer and Ryan's friendship. Which is why stories like this make me happy.
I'll go down with my friends (f*cking friends) Talking about things that aren't secret. I'm sure everyone knows about my thing about Frank and Mikey, both pairing wise and as bffs. So this story showing their friendship through Gerard's eyes delighted me.
Frnk cghing pls brng smthng when u can also coffee Frank and Mikey roomie fic where Mikey takes care of a sick Frank. Be still my heart. I love this so much.
answer my trick of the hour, let me breathe A story based on Mikey trying so hard to make his playing good enough for Ray. This is such a great look at the two of them. Ray's such an amazing musician that it must be intimidating trying to keep up, and Ray doesn't really help, at least not at first.
Never Mind About the Shape I'm In 5 times Gerard patched Mikey up and one time Mikey patches up Gerard. This is the first story I read from the fest. No one is surprised.
The Monster at the End of this Story (Vampires Will Never Hurt You) MCR AU. This is such a good read. It's fun and set in such an unusual universe. It's one of those stories where I was sad it ended.
Time to make the doughnuts Gabe takes Pete on a late night road trip. Gabe and Pete are another stand out set of BFFs in bandom to me. I really liked this look at their relationship.
