Oct. 31st, 2012 04:36 pmI had a good mail day today. Thank you
dine for the awesome postcard and
sperrywink for the fun card ♥
We went to nannas on Sunday and had a nice time, but I did have a moment of, the hell? when she mentioned our cats, then asked how long cats live for. We told her, and she said, oh, well I'll probably not visit your house again. Which, what? If she'd at any point said the cats bothered her I'd have put them in another room, it's usually only Freesia who thinks everyone is there to cuddle her that tends to come bother people anyway, and she's easily put upstairs.
Saying that, it was more a wtf moment not nanna being mean or anything. I love her to bits and considering she's in her middle 90s now she can dislike cats all she wants. I just wish she'd have actually said so outright, and not in a way where she means dying before our cats.
James has been carving pumpkins the last two nights

He also made soup out of one, and man, it was so good. Just pumpkin, onions, stock and one chilli. Om nom nom. I'll be making more with the remaining pumpkin flesh later, and have the seeds ready to be roasted. Not that I've tried that before but I figure why not give it a go. Strike that, soup has now been made and it tastes great once again. No seed roasting yet, though.
While we don't get many trick or treaters here we get a few, so we have a bowl full of sweets ready, and if they don't all go, Corey will soon finish them off.
Finally, I know a lot of talk is going on about the changes LJ is doing to the friend pages. I'm sure everyone knows how I feel about this but LJ is my home and I have no intention of leaving. Not because I don't get annoyed at how they make unnecessary changes, because I do, but because the DW subscribe and access thing doesn't work for me at all. I know it does for lots of people but I don't like it. I'll happily cross post to DW and will read/comment there, but LJ is my space, and I'm not giving it up.

Date: 2012-10-31 05:24 pm (UTC)I want to make that now. I think I'll have to buy more pumpkin while they're so cheap.
Thanks so much for the link.

Date: 2012-10-31 07:54 pm (UTC)I've tried using pumpkin in beef stew but I'm not sure I like it. Maybe I'll like it better in soup. I must remember getting one before they disappears from the stores. I should try making a pie too.

Date: 2012-11-03 03:36 pm (UTC)I don't think it's changed unless you deliberately opt to use the beta service. It's why I don't understand all the fuss, yet again people reacting before they actually know for sure what's happening.

Date: 2012-11-03 04:00 pm (UTC)I can't imagine pumpkin in a beef stew, I'd imagine it would clash. But it's fantastic in soup. You really should give it a try.

Date: 2013-02-25 02:20 am (UTC)I haven't had pumpkin soup in a while (though it is very yummy). Pumpkin pie, however, is one of those things that I will forever love. :)
Re LJ: I'm very happy you're crossposting here 'cause I don't read my LJ as often as I used to (something like once or twice a day.) Most of the day-to-day action (for me) is over at Twitter (though that has its obvious limitations too) and here on DW (despite the fact that, as you can see, it takes me AGES to comment on posts.)
As for Tumblr, well, I truly don't understand it nor am I interested enough on it to acquire one. A lot of Fandom is over there, but (as of yet) I don't feel the need to join them over there.
In the end, what's important is using the platform you're comfortable with. It's your fannish experience and no one can tell you what's best for yourself. :)

Date: 2013-03-29 05:40 pm (UTC)Pumpkin soup. Now I want it again.
I really don't mind crossposting at all, or reading at both. I wish I liked DW more to call it my home but I just don't like the access and subscribe system. I'd much rather friend and be done with it.
I have a tumblr but never use it. I'm happy to stay that way. And yes, you do have to pick what works for you best. Fandom is supposed to be fun, afterall.
