Jul. 10th, 2013 01:23 pmI was talking to Sperrywink and Turlough in email last week and they suggested I should post some pictures of my garden. So I took some, but can't seem to get them off the photostream. I've tried emailing to myself, getting them from the actual photostream file, so many things, but nope. So, I'll have to try again. Though, it's just as well as things have changed a lot, even in the few days since I took those photos.
I got this very apt fold out ornament and a post card signed from all the Camp Sparklers. I've said it already, but I miss them all. They're such a great group of people and I love Camp Sparkle keeps going year to year.
We've been having a heat wave around these parts, so I'm very glad that it has cooled down today. Still hot enough I've got the windows open, but it's a nice kind of heat and not the kind that exhausts you just moving around. Which is just as well as James is off on another one of his disaster exercises today. Apparently they're dealing with a train crash, so goodness knows when he gets back.
On Monday Corey had a meeting about a scheme he's doing this summer. He'll be going away to an activity centre for five days, home for a weekend, go to stay in university accommodation in Sunderland for five days, then a weekend off before going to local meetings daily for five days. It's all set up to help 16-17 year olds gain useful skills before they head for university, and better still, gives them something to do over the summer break at a very low cost. The staying in university accommodation is also classed as an away trip, which it will be in the sense Corey will be staying away from home, but he's drawn the short straw in that he's travelling to somewhere a few miles up the road. But, he'll enjoy it and get to live like a student for a while.
I really liked this photo of Mikey, plus Sarah and her son. He looks so good, and that shirt looks great on him. Unlike the latest picture of the two of them with matching duck faces.
I wrote and posted a h/c bingo fill. It was for the loss of home prompt, Teen Wolf, Scott/Isaac, and I enjoyed writing it a lot. I'm loving that pairing at the moment, and it was nice break to write in another fandom for a bit, just something short that didn't need any plotting. If that sounds like something you'd like to read it's here. Now I need to decide what direction to go in to get my line. Looking at my card, tentacles do catch my eye, but so does body image. That or this will be like every other year I've joined this and this will be the only fill that I do.
I watched Teen Wolf this morning and really enjoyed it. Parts of the ep I was on the edge of my seat.

Date: 2013-07-10 12:43 pm (UTC)I hope Corey has a nice time at the...thing! \o/
(Oh god, not the duck faceeeees. And the sad sad hair. /o\) The white shirt looks so greaaaaaaat.
Hmm, tentacles would be cool, but, um, body image issues, broken bones, motion sickness and heat stroke??? SIGN ME UP. Have you done heat stroke? It sounds like a cliche but Warped Tour (or some other touring) for sure. And motion sickness could be anything on tour, too! Maybe they have to take a ferry at some point. *_____* Yessss.

Date: 2013-07-10 12:55 pm (UTC)YES! That's it exactly. The photos are on my iPad. I can even send them to myself, but actually doing anything with them beyond that point seems to be impossible. It's all very annoying.
Ahahaha, a thing sums it up really. They'll be doing all sorts, but I suspect he'll enjoy the living as a student the most. Especially as he gets to come home after.
The duck faces and the sad hair make me sad. How can he go from looking so amazing to looking like that? Obviously they only have one bathroom and Sarah takes so long with her constantly changing hairstyles Mikey never gets to go into it. He probably has to pee in the kitchen sink. Sadness!
I haven't done heat stroke, and it would fit beautifully on tour. Especially as it's something that could be written without any actual plot. Motion sickness would have to have Gerard creeping on someone being sick *g*

Date: 2013-07-10 01:02 pm (UTC)Lol omg. a) EW. b) lbr, they probably have a bathroom big enough that they can both do their hair there at the same time if they want to. FOR SOME REASON MIKEY DOESN'T WANT TO :(
Yess, exactly! Those two prompts can totally be written without any plot! Which is great! (Which begs the question: why the hell am I trying to introduce plot into my "food poisoning" square when I could just jump right in. The world will never know. That'll have to wait anyway.) GERARD CREEPING ON MIKEY, FOR SURE. (Poor Mikey.)

Date: 2013-07-10 01:51 pm (UTC)Plotty food poisoning. I do love your brain. You know Gerard creeped on Mikey. He had to learn he liked to watch people throw up from someone. Now you're making me think of motion sickness, poor Mikey throwing up & glaring at Gerard, all, I'm sick, I'm not having sex with you now!

Date: 2013-07-10 01:51 pm (UTC)Camp Sparkle, :-( Someday, I will go again!
I hope Corey enjoys his Summer Scheme and that it helps him wth his classes.
Mikey does look good!
I'm waiting until i catch up with TW before I read your ficlet. Stupid TW. I am so far behind now! Maybe I will catch up this weekend.

Date: 2013-07-10 01:57 pm (UTC)Yes you will! And I'll be there too, and we can share a room with Turlough.
I think he's looking forward to it. It's a shame his second set of accommodation is so close, but at least he's getting to live in the student houses overlooking the river.
He does! I really love the shirt he's wearing.
How far are you behind? I really loved this weeks ep, and in general am all, Isaac *_____* right now.

Date: 2013-07-10 02:02 pm (UTC)That is a shame, but maybe he can do a year abroad or something and get a taste of foreign.
I think I only watched the first, maybe the second episode, so pretty far behind. I'm pretty indifferent to Scott, although I laugh when I think of how they realized their mistake of the first 2 seasons and have been braining Scott up this season. You can't have a main character who no one believes can do the job, just sayin'. I'm not saying I buy his turn-around, but I see the reason for it. *g*

Date: 2013-07-10 02:31 pm (UTC)They do have a scheme for 18 years olds where they get to go abroad for four months as part of a gap year. It would be a fantastic opportunity, even if thinking about it makes my chest ache.
I've been impressed with Scott this season. Before my attention tended to go to Stiles, but now it's Isaac and Scott.

Date: 2013-07-10 02:43 pm (UTC)I just wanted the food poisoning to be in the nurse!Frank verse! So I felt it needed some sort of plot. /o\
Gerard's a total creeper. I feel a kinship.

Date: 2013-07-10 02:49 pm (UTC)Also, YES! That would be fantastic. I support that plot.
Do you think he stalks people online too? #stalkersunite

Date: 2013-07-10 02:54 pm (UTC)But these are just my thoughts as a (sometimes overly aggressive) Scott fan. <33 I'd be interested in why you think he couldn't do the job in the previous seasons, though? Because, like I said, I'm a fan and I'm protective so I might miss some things.

Date: 2013-07-10 03:49 pm (UTC)Maybe I should have said I didn't believe he could do the job in seasons 1 & 2, I'm perfectly fine to back away from generalizations.
As I said, I have been pretty indifferent to Scott, and from seasons 1 & 2 mostly remember the montages of him making out with Allison and looking longingly at Allison (I want plot from my shows, making out can be saved for the fanfic), so I don't have any particular examples to throw at you, but I stand by my statement that I didn't buy his "smart" actions previously the way I have for the first couple episodes this season. It mostly seemed to be people telling us he was smart, or the actions were "twists" that I just didn't buy, particularly the finale of Season 2. I agree that he was set up to be smart- he takes classes with Lydia who should be in honors/AP classes, so should be basically smart, but I feel that they used him as a joke too often or to set up Stiles or Lydia as contrastingly smart to make his crafty plans believable.
So, anyway, I don't see the build-up, but I admit Scott isn't a favorite of mine. The parallels between Buffy Summers and Scott are a bit too overdone, in both good ways and bad ways, and that annoys me, which clouds him for me, and I hated the focus on Scott&Allison's romance, like I said, I'd rather find that in fanfic than in shows.
And my final point, I don't think being smart is a requirement of being an Alpha. Look at Derek. I would say that boy is dumber than Scott- he can't plan for shit and that has been consistently shown. He's older and has more life experience, but smart, not so much.
Actually, now my final point. I actually liked Scott more now, so maybe my opinion of him will change as the season goes on. Time will tell!

Date: 2013-07-10 03:58 pm (UTC)And I do agree that the way they've set up his intelligence or whatever was kind of...dodgy? I mean, to me personally it seems like the writers themselves bought into what fandom bought into, that Scott was "dumb" or w/e so they now have him study for tests and read while working out or whatever. Even though, yeah, they had him in Lydia's math class and other stuff. I feel like a better word would be oblivious to some stuff and slow about other stuff. I mean, I never had a problem believing his "smart" actions (though I do believe he thought most of them up with Stiles -- simply because the two of them are a team, so they bounce ideas), but I can see why it wouldn't always mesh with the rest of his characterisation regarding his intelligence.
But yeah, that's fair. I mean, I can see where you're coming from in that you just don't like that kind of character (if you're drawing parallels to Buffy -- which I didn't notice myself but when I think about it they're definitely there).
I totally agree there re: Derek. And lbr, I personally think Scott would make a better alpha than Derek, and that has nothing to do with how smart either characters are.

Date: 2013-07-10 09:15 pm (UTC)A fold-out ornament with cats with an envelope so you could post it - there was no way I could resist buying that for you ;-P
We've had a small heatwave too but today it's been quite chilly and blustery. I hope James enjoyed the train crash :-)
That sounds like a very cool sheme. I hope he enjoys it.
Tentacles are never wrong...

Date: 2013-07-11 01:21 pm (UTC)It really was the perfect choice. It's on my desk now, every time I see it I think of you and smile.
We're back to bright sunshine and heat again. The weather is all over the place. Hopefully you've got the sun back, too.
James had a great time, though came home still in full make-up, which of course, meant he had to use his wheelchair back from the car. If he'd been stopped by the police they would have had a shock.
It really is a good scheme. I like that they're giving the kids confidence about going off on their own and doing things in the community. But also having fun too.
Tentacles are fun! I'm tempted to go a little crackish with that one, maybe a monster hospital, that would be fun.

Date: 2013-07-11 08:29 pm (UTC)*snicker* It almost makes me wish he had been stopped by the police :-)
Monster hospital sounds awesome. Or a space hospital!

Date: 2013-07-13 09:00 pm (UTC)I had to LOL at the thing you got from Camp Sparkle. In a strange way, I see it as something that is very you. Hee!
Yays for Corey and his School Scheme. It sounds like a fantastic opportunity.
Funnily enough, the FIRST thing I noticed when I saw the pic was Mikeyway's nose ring! *pauses* Oh, OK, it was the SECOND thing (after sighing dreamily while looking at his arms. >_>). If I'm not mistaken, this is one of the few photos where we can see his nose ring clearly.
All in all, I'm a tad perplexed at how much all the guys like Disneyworld. Granted, it made sense for Frank (because of the twins and Miles) as well as Mikeyway (because of Sarah's son) to go once in a while. However, I have a feeling that the guys truly enjoy their time at Disneyworld as fans too. ^_^
Many snaps to you for doing a fill so soon. Woot! Here's hoping to see more fills. Not for nothing, but tentacles is an AWESOMECAKES prompt. AHEM. >:)

Date: 2013-07-22 04:59 pm (UTC)Turlough made an excellent choice. My house is a house of cats *g*
You know, I'm glad he kept his nose ring in. He took so much stick for it and while I know he'll online opinion with a pinch of salt it must have been annoying to see so many negative opinions. Ones I still don't understand because it looks cute.
Yeah, they do seem to go to Disneyworld often. And that time Ray and Mikey went together, no doubt with Christa and Alicia, they had no kids to use as excuses. I wonder if they hit the rides -- well apart from Frank, we've seen him on rides -- or just go for the atmosphere.
Tentacles is an awesome prompt \o/
