Jun. 26th, 2014 02:53 pmHappiest of birthdays to
frausorge one of the loveliest people ever. I hope today is wonderful for you ♥
Thank you to the Camp Sparklers who sent me a postcard. You're all fabulous ♥
The funeral went well on Tuesday. It was a humanist one and the lady conducted it captured Frank perfectly. After I got to spend time with people I hadn't seen for a while, in some cases 20 years or so. Many said I'd never changed, which was them being very kind I think, and Irene, Frank's wife, made me smile by repeatedly saying I was a bonny lass, something she's always said, so it was like being catapulted back to school times.
The wake was good too. I got to meet up with old friends and write down memories of Frank and just, it was a fitting end with much talk of helping on the farm and falling off rope swings. But, this was the fourth funeral I've been to this year. I'd like to think it was the last for a very long time.
Yesterday we had another day out. We took mam to a restaurant she's been wanting to try and Kay and Kay met us there for delicious food. Though I did make a fool of myself when I took a drink of my diet coke. It was in a glass bottle with a straw and due to the way I held the bottle, had somehow created a seal, which when released made coke spray out of the straw like a fountain. It got everywhere, in my hair, down my front, all over the table. So much shame /o\
After that we took mam along to see the Tommy sculpture she'd wanted to see, and spent some time hanging out on the prom. We also picked up a new shower, and by the skin of our teeth dodged a parking ticket due to a lovely traffic warden who wrote the slowest ticket ever, giving mam the chance to run into the shop and grab James so we could move the car.
Sadly, after that the day went downhill when our car started acting up. It would keep stuttering when the revs dropped below a certain number, which wasn't good when we were stuck in rush over traffic. James has taken it to the garage this morning and it seems the alternator is shot, and of course they didn't have the parts for a fix. Thankfully motability is sorting out a hire automatic for him, so that's where he is now, waiting for that. Which sucks as today he was supposed to be back at work for only his second week after being off for so long.
The garden is looking good right now. We've got sugarsnap peas, a few kinds of beans, courgettes, onions, garlic, spring onions, sweetcorn, a variety of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, chillies growing right now, and they all seem to be doing well. Apart from the first lot of rocket which was completely eaten overnight by snails. We went to bed with a lush crop and woke the next morning to stalks. Since then James has put up copper tape and crushed shells which seems to have kept them away, hopefully for good.
I was surprised to see The Fosters back last week considering I'd just finished the episodes I had in my download folder. With such a big gap I thought I'd just watched season two, but it seems the first season had been split and season two has just started. Which is great for me, but was a little confusing at the time.
Well, Corey has gone to the gym and I really must get the washing on the line and hoover the floor. Something that's a daily job at the moment due to the amount of cat hair being shed.

Date: 2014-06-26 07:06 pm (UTC)Four funerals in less than half a year is far too many! I really hope you won't have to go to any more in a long time.
Ouch, what an embarrassing and sticky thing to happen. You have all my sympathy.
That's a powerful sculpture.
So typical! I hope he didn't have to wait for the hire car all day.
Your garden is looking so lush! It's been so chilly here nothing seems to have grown at all while I was away. I'm keeping my fingers crossed you won't be bothered by snails again.
Lancecat seems to have stopped shedding finally!

Date: 2014-06-27 07:45 am (UTC)It sounds good that the funeral and wake brought his circle together and gave people a chance to remember like that.
Hope your car can be fixed soon. And your garden looks lovely!

Date: 2014-06-27 09:44 am (UTC)Yeah, I'm a bit funeral'ed out at the moment.
The sculpture really is powerful. It was supposed to be a lend but the people of the town started a collection to buy it. Within a few weeks they've nearly got the full amount. It's very impressive.
He had the car by late afternoon, but hopefully we get ours back soon. It's just more comfortable with the adaptions it has.
That's a shame about your garden. Ours seems to have just taken off at a sprint. It's just a shame the snails seems to be breeding too.

Date: 2014-06-28 10:20 am (UTC)The garden is so small it has to be orderly, otherwise we'd be overrun with plants *g*
