Jan. 11th, 2015 02:48 pmOkay, rl catch up time.
First off, I want to thank everyone for the lovely cards. It's always a highlight of the holiday season getting cards from all over the world. You're all great ♥
I also got some fantastic gifts.
pensnest sent the most gorgeous fluffy scarf that I've used often.
turlough sent an adorable knitted penguin, who is sitting on my desk right now and watching me type and some very handy home-made coasters. Then
sperrywink sent me Groot! Which is just amazing and makes me grin each time I look at it. I need to get a suitable frame because that baby is going on my living room wall. Kimberly also sent the most beautiful holiday decorations and very useful teatowels, because she's all kinds of awesome. ♥ to you all. Also, photo here.
Christmas itself went very well. If I say so myself, I cooked a very delicious dinner, and mam and Kayleigh came down to eat with us, and it was just a lovely day. We watched Frozen, which none of had seen, ate well, received really nice and well thought of gifts -- my stash of Lush goodies is well and truly stocked up again -- and James being off for the whole day made things even better. What also made things better was mam being in a good mood. That makes such a big difference from the last few years.
Things could have gone wrong as Kayleigh and Kay had another mega bust up Christmas eve when Kay found out Kayleigh was dating, got angry and refused to look after Kayleigh's cats any more -- Kayleigh had tried to introduce her three cats to mam's cat but it went badly. Kayleigh's are house cats, mam's got an outside cat so chaos happened, both between the cats and mam and Kayleigh. So Kayleigh was told in no uncertain terms to go get her cats, and when she got up there found all three shoved in a cage in the garden.
Other things. James got sick between Christmas and New Year, so much so the paramedics at his work wanted to send him to hospital, but instead he came home with a really bad chest infection and pulled chest muscles through coughing. A course of steroids and antibiotics and he's fine now. Timing wise it was the worst. If you live in the UK you'll have seen the ambulance service has been on its knees this last month, so losing an experienced 999 handler wasn't good at all, but there was no way he could stay at work. Thankfully as it was work people who sent him home they knew he wasn't pulling a fast one to get time off in the holidays.
Apart from one night when she went off on one and deleted James from FB for being a spy, mam's remained in a sort of okay mood. MiL is home from hospital. We saw her on Friday as it was my SiLs birthday, so spent some time with them both. Dad has been dismissed from speech therapy as they say they can't do anything more for him. I can understand why they've done so, he hated going and wasn't making any progress, but it's a shame as his speech issues are so limiting for him. Stupid Parkinson's. Kayleigh managed to re-break an old foot fracture by stepping off a curb, but is managing to hobble around now.
The test I got done at the end of last year came back negative, which is great. I go to my first real bariatric solo appointment the beginning of next month, which is a bit scary and next week I get the blood test to see if I do have thyroid issues or if it was just a blip last time. Next week Corey also goes to his first university interviews, which man, how did that happen? The first person in our immediate families to maybe go to university.
Oh, I forgot to say, we've been getting the brick shed in our garden knocked down. See. That's where the greenhouse is going to go. The garden looks so much bigger, but I must get a roller blind for the kitchen as you can see right in now the shed's gone. It also means one corner of the kitchen is full of garden tools as we have nowhere to store them right at the moment.
Supernatural has finally come back to UK tv. We're a season behind, but man, Jensen remains the most attractive. I'm also really enjoying The Librarians, it's ridiculous, feel-good fun.
The weather is terrible here at the moment with really strong winds and pelting down rain. Yesterday we found someone's black lacy thong on our front lawn. I suspect by now it'll have been blown away to continue its journey.
I love my new computer. I think Corey has builder angst as he keeps resting his hand on it, to ensure it's not overheating I assume. The only problem is when I installed thunderbird yet again all my emails from the gmail site were re-downloaded. Right now I have 115,000 of them in there and slowing down TB disgracefully. I'm deleting from the top and answering from the bottom, but it's almost impossible to find anything that requires moving the bar. But I'll get there eventually, it's just a bit frustrating at the moment when things keep snagging up.
Right, time to post this then I have snowflakes to do before starting on tea.

Date: 2015-01-11 03:28 pm (UTC)Glad you had a good holiday, but sorry James got sick. Glad he is feeling better now.
Good luck with your doctor's appointments! I hope everything goes swimmingly.
YAY new computer! I keep thinking I need to get a new one soon. This one is rapidly being filled with media. Otherwise get an external hard drive for storage. But I like the idea of two computers for one person. *g*
Forgot to say- your garden looks so big without the shed! Good luck with the greenhouse!

Date: 2015-01-11 03:56 pm (UTC)With him having so much time off for his op last year James being off sick wasn't the best, but one thing about working in ambulance control, the medical people won't let you stay if you're too sick to do so.
Thank you.
You should get a new computer! Just don't be like me and re-download all your mail. There has to be some trick that I'm missing in terms of transferring, probably something really obvious.
The garden looks huge when I go outside. It's still a bit disconcerting seeing all that space.

Date: 2015-01-11 04:57 pm (UTC)I'm sorry about all the health troubles. I hope the thyroid thing works out okay.
How is Corey already ready to go to uni? I feel it was like yesterday that he was starting six form. -_-

Date: 2015-01-11 05:02 pm (UTC)I hope so too, but from talking to people and having a Google it seems even if there's an issue it can be fixed, which is great.
Oh man, I know! It's so weird seeing him sort out interviews and potentially living away from home. But like I told him yesterday, he has to go to the place that suits him best, not the one nearest to where we live.

Date: 2015-01-11 05:12 pm (UTC)(I managed to get THunderbird to import my old mail without re-downloading everything, but at the cost of loosing the filters that make the whole thing manageable, so that wasa fun coupleof hours to set them all up again. *virtual tea and sympathy*)

Date: 2015-01-11 05:48 pm (UTC)If I ever change computers again I'm going to come to you for your tips on how to avoid the re-downloading issue. Getting things how you want and need them is always a pain.

Date: 2015-01-11 09:44 pm (UTC)The Groot print from Kimberly is so sweet and fun and pretty. She really gives the best gifts!!! And the shawl from Pen looks so soft.
I'm glad to hear you'd a nice Christmas, but boo! for James getting so ill! Coughing so hard he pulled a muscle sounds awful!
Lots of good luck to Corey with the interviews!
I can't wait to see how your new greenhouse will look.
We'd a terrible storm pass over last night and it's still very windy. It's gotten cold again tonight though so I imagine it's now scarily slippery everywhere after all the raining.
Good luck getting all those mails sorted. (That's what you get for not sorting them in folders properly :-)

Date: 2015-01-11 10:17 pm (UTC)Sorry to hear about the health troubles over Christmas. I hope your doctor appts go well!
Your garden looks so much bigger without the shed! I hope the greenhouse is brilliant. Mmm, greenhouse. Tomatoes....mmm. :)
I can't believe Corey's applying to Uni! I mean, I *do* believe you, but I'm not sure where the time's gone. Good for him, though!

Date: 2015-01-12 01:19 pm (UTC)The black lacy thong was very surreal. Going outside, seeing some tiny scrap of material lying on the grass and realising what it actually was. Someone needed to use double pegs *g*

Date: 2015-01-12 01:22 pm (UTC)Thank you. Thankfully everyone is pretty much healthy at the moment. Hopefully it will stay that way.
The shed took up so much room. It was useful but in such a bad position, especially as the garden is such a strange shape. Now it's a case of waiting a little while and putting up the greenhouse. I'm looking forward to seeing it up, and especially to when it'll be full of tomato plants.
Thinking of him going to uni is so strange. It's like he's an actual adult now.

Date: 2015-01-12 02:11 pm (UTC)Yeah, both Pen and Kimberly gave lovely gifts, I was very lucky this year.
I didn't even think you could pull a muscle due to coughing until he was sent home. He really suffered with it for a while, but thankfully all is well now.
Thank you!
I'm looking forward to seeing the greenhouse up so much. If it was up to James it would be up now but it's so cold and windy it's best waiting a while, especially as no planting would be going on yet.
The weather seems to be awful everywhere just now. After dying down last night the wind is back with a vengeance now, and we have snow forecast for tomorrow. So you know everything will grind to a hault. Hope it's not too slippy for you.
That's what's so annoying. I did have my emails sorted into folders on thunderbird, but I never do anything with the ones on the actual gmail site. It seemed pointless to sort in both places, until I got hit with a barrage f emails.

Date: 2015-01-12 02:33 pm (UTC)Thank you. His builder angst amuses me. He's built his own computers for a while but this is the first time he's done one for someone else. So keeps having a sidle over to touch the casing *g*

Date: 2015-01-12 04:52 pm (UTC)Arrggghhh! That's even more annoying than I thought it was! Now you have even more of my sympathy! I'm so glad I don't use webmail.
