Electric Century released a new song yesterday and I like it a lot. There was also Way bro cuteness on twitter the other day. A+ use of your time Mikey Way.
This morning James was at the hospital to see his consultant about his hand, just a regular check-up kind of thing. I was hoping he'd be discharged but it's not to be as his wrist has been clicking lately so they want to keep an eye on it. They also wanted to try and wean him off wearing a splint but he wasn't having any of it. He's had so much work done on his wrist that he's afraid of falling and wrecking everything, which is a valid concern as he's not that steady on his feet. What was worthy of an eye-roll was one of the younger doctors who suggested James try and develop muscle in his arm. Considering his arms are fixed I'd love to know how that was going to happen.
But anyway, that was this morning. This afternoon James is driving Corey to a university interview so I've got the house to myself this afternoon. Between pottering, answering some comments, deleting emails and replying to snowflakes I may even blow the dust off gdocs.
Now though, some snowflakes.
Day 7
In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs..
Okay, yeah, it's h/c. I'm sure I've said this in all of these challenges. So I've been thinking about it and thought I'd mention a specific scenario in h/c that I love a lot, and that's someone trying to hide that they're suffering or hurting or engaging in reckless behaviour, but signs are seen by the people who love them. For example, there's a Ray/Mikey Mikey/Pete story that I really like. In it Mikey's off having lots of sex and in one scene Ray notices that he has a bruise on his neck and when Mikey realises Ray's seen he tries to hide it. And just, yes. You keep on suffering and trying to hide while other people worry and want to fix you. It's one of the many reasons I love Way bros fic so much as they fit into this kind of story so beautifully.
Okay, I've stopped being lazy and that Ray/Mikey is Collect Call and man, that's from the 2010 BBB. I didn't think it was from so long ago.
Another example is Arsenic's Adaptable to Change where Spencer notices that something is wrong with Mikey and through just being there eventually gets him to open up. If you haven't read that before read the warnings first.
Someone being sick and trying to hide it, total catnip. Same goes for injuries and the longer that goes on the better.
I don't know why I like that stuff, I just do, and have for a long time. I can't see that changing any time soon.
Day 9
In your own space, talk about what surprises you about fandom. It could be a pairing or fandom you never thought you'd like. A fanwork type you never knew existed. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I wasn't sure what to put here at first, and then I started thinking about fandom in general, and how the people in it are kind of awesome.
These snowflakes challenges are good examples of that. I've seen so many people cheering on strangers when they did something hard or offer up icons etc based on a wishlist. Or away from the challenges, things like the charity auctions where people hand over money or create fannish works in order to help in some way. I've seen so many examples of the virtual hat being passed around when someone has hit hard times. I've seen people be there with a shoulder to cry on, to post something fun when someone needs a smile. Of course it's not sweetness and light always, that's impossible, but I've found the majority of time things are pretty great. And okay, that's not really a big surprise as such but I hope those little reminder surprises count, the kind that keep on happening always, because as I said at the beginning, fans really do rock.
Day 10
Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing. Try working in a new medium. Or check out some fanworks that are new to you. (The recs from Day 1 might be a good place to start!) Leave a comment in this post saying you did it.
I followed and read some recs in different fandoms earlier in the challenge, so I'm going to say this one is done.
