Nov. 13th, 2017 09:02 amI went to the Sunderland Veganfest with Kayleigh and Shauna yesterday. While I'm not vegan, or vegetarian even, it was something we were all interested in. Well, except for Shauna, she mainly came because it's not often she and Kayleigh have a day off together. It was a good time, held at the local football stadium and over two floors. There was a nice selection of stalls and many places selling food. I came home with a steampunk fox print that caught my attention and didn't let go. Two home made cat Christmas cards -- which I suspect will be winging their way around the world soon, home made soap -- even though I have enough soap from Lush to last me for years -- two snowmen bath melts, one of which has now been used, and a chocolate vegan brownie for James. Both he and mam had said the food would be like cardboard, which was more ignorance with never trying than actual opinion I suspect. While James has changed his mind as he loved the brownie, mam tried some of a left over vegan burger and ended up spitting it into the bin, so no change there. However, this is the woman who just tried rice for the first time this year, so it was always going to be a hard sell.
What did take me aback was seeing one of the people on a craft stall eating a Mcdonalds burger behind their stall. They'd hidden the box in a brown paper bag, but it was still pretty obvious what they were doing. I just found it a little disrespectful.
While I was at the fest James was off seeing his family as it's my youngest nephew's birthday today. Talking to him later I was thankful he went solo as the in laws have been having a bust up, which I guess makes a change from my side fighting. Plus, both my MiL and FiL have serious health issues that they're ignoring. MiL especially as she says it feels like she's walking on cotton wool when she walks, which suggests to me a nerve problem, and considering she's diabetic that could be serious. But would she make a doctor's appointment. Nope. She's seeing the nurse on Wednesday and thinks that's enough. Hopefully she'll make her see a doctor then.
James was also exhausted himself. He finished night shifts on Friday night, then was in charge of a scout camp from first thing Saturday morning, which included driving down to Eden Camp. Then marched with his scouts in the Remembrance parade on Sunday, helped pack up the camp then went on to his mam's and sister's houses. No wonder he was flaked on on the couch fast asleep when I got home.
Last night we also organised an early Christmas dinner with Pauline and my brother and his family for the 30th of this month. This obviously means I need to buy myself a new Christmas themed dress. I actually really want a tacky Christmas jumper too. It wasn't worth the cost getting one before as the plus size shops charge a fortune and I couldn't justify it for a few wears. But this year the tack will be mine!

Date: 2017-11-13 12:11 pm (UTC)Go for all the tacky you can find! Christmas tacky is the best. I moved the bin with my small fake tree from the storage unit to the co-op, and now I'm left wondering if it is too early to set it up.

Date: 2017-11-13 03:47 pm (UTC)Set it up and embrace the early Christmas! Or maybe wait until you get your new sofa first. Then you can decorate.

Date: 2017-11-14 04:57 pm (UTC)It sounds like you've both had a very busy weekend. I hope you'll get to take things a little easier for a few days at least.
Your MiL sounds like my oldest aunt. She's completely hopeless about going to the doctor. I really don't understand people like that. Do they think speaking with a doctor will make them WORSE?!
Good luck finding a pretty Christmas dress! And with the hunt for the tackiest jumpter too!

Date: 2017-11-16 05:19 pm (UTC)Sometimes I don't go to the doctor because I've already seen so many. But it's a dumb excuse. Your MIL still needs to go.

Date: 2017-11-17 08:54 pm (UTC)Sounds like it was a good day out though, I love things like that :).
Oh, it's getting to that tacky festive jumper time of year... I've got a couple of reasonable ones... but.... ;D

Date: 2017-11-27 07:27 pm (UTC)I didn't realise that. I really hope it was that, because otherwise, it wasn't on.
It was a great day. I'd certainly go back again.
I still haven't got my tacky Christmas jumper. However, I do have a cheap tacky Christmas t-shirt I could buy off that rack at Asda. So that's one thing :D

Date: 2017-12-10 08:49 am (UTC)The food was so delicious. I don't get dismissing vagan food as cardboard without trying it. What I tried wasn't like that at all.

It's so frustrating. It turns out my MiL did go to the doctor in the end, but for a different issues, and she's now waiting for the results from some tests she had done. Could be something potentially nasty, but also something easily dealt with. But at least she'll know. Going to see a doctor isn't something I'd do for fun, but when you're ill I don't get not going at all.
Sadly I still don't have a tacky jumper, but as you know I have my Christmas dress.

Date: 2017-12-10 09:23 am (UTC)Yeah, I don't like seeing the doctor either, but you're right, you still have to go if it's something serious.
