Dec. 10th, 2018 08:15 amThank you
pensnest and Beast, for the beautiful card, and gift. I've kept the present and it will go under the tree once it's up. ♥
I think I jinxed myself about feeling the healthiest I'd been for a while in my last post, because last week I nearly passed out in Ikea. Thankfully it was just a nearly this time because I recognised I was feeling off and went to sit down until I was steady on my feet again. I'd had a good day before that, we'd seen Wreck it Ralph 2 at the cinema, did a load of Christmas present shopping and had gone around Ikea and was queuing for a veggie hot dog when I started to feel off. Like when it happened in the summer I was really overheated at the time, had walked loads and then was standing in a queue. I guess my body just went, nope.
However, unlike the advice I got from the doctor last time I didn't lie down. Though it would have caused quite the interesting commotion if I did so. At least Ikea has plenty of those flat bed trolleys to haul me back to the car if needed. I feel fine now, so that's the end of that, hopefully.
Saturday we were at my aunt's. She put on a birthday buffet for James' birthday, my cousin made him a cake which my aunt brought in with candles and we sang happy birthday. It was a good time. But my aunt's house. It's just, whoa. Christmas concentrated. She's got Christmas villages set up that run the length of her living room, these amazing classy garlands over her windows, wreaths on the doors. Every cabinet is stuffed with Christmas stuff, trees everywhere, and yet no tinsel or glitter in sight so it all looks classic and beautiful. I just sat there looking at everything and thinking, wow.
The builders were supposed to be here yesterday, but when James got in touch yesterday the main builder said he'd been in an accident so couldn't come. But he'd forgotten to let us know due to so much happening because of the accident. On one hand, a tiny piece of me thinks, that's convenient, but mostly I'm thinking he was a really lovely guy when he did our bathroom and went out of his way to help, so maybe he is just having a lot of bad luck lately. I mean, it happens. At least this time I knew beforehand and didn't empty the cupboards again. But, I do suspect my shelves won't be going up this year so I'm going to leave everything where it is and wait patiently for that extra storage.
Yesterday we put up the tree -- yes, it's just as overloaded and tinsel stuffed as always -- and I got the house sorted and had a bit of catch up online. Today I must write some more words already, my beta is ready and waiting but I need something to send to her. But first, this morning is a trip to the post office and delivering the estate neighbour cards. They've put me to shame this year. Though I suppose it shows they do actually like us and it's not just sending a card to acknowledge a card kind of thing.
Tomorrow we're off to York for the day on the train. Christmas market, chestnuts and mulled wine here we come.

Date: 2018-12-10 09:15 am (UTC)Oh no I’m sorry you felt bad, though at least it was only a nearly. I’m glad you’re feeling better though, sometimes just being out all day like that can be exhausting. How is Wreck It Ralph 2, is it any good? *hugs*
Cake is good and wow, that sounds intense Christmas. We’ve never gone that hardcore with it.
That’s a shame the builders aren’t coming to sort those things. Hopefully they will soon though.
Yay tree! Ours is up there we need to put the additional tinsel about too. Good luck with writing! *sends positive vibes*
Oh have fun! I’ve not been to York for years but I remember it being nice

Date: 2018-12-10 08:53 pm (UTC)Oh I must get my Xmas things out and put them up - my office is delightfully sparkly but I've nothing but my advent calendar up at home yet - you've inspired me!

Date: 2018-12-10 09:26 pm (UTC)My cards to the UK are done and stamped, I just haven't posted them yet. That's a job for Wednesday.
I enjoyed Wreck It Ralph 2. It had a lot of pop culture jokes that I appreciated so while it's technically a film for kids adults will enjoy it too.
It really was intense Christmas. I've never seen anything like it, seriously everywhere you looked there was more stuff, but none of it was cheap looking. She even had a slim-line tree at the top of the stairs and admitted she'd downsized in the last few years and had seven more trees in the attic that didn't get put up now. I was amazed.
Well, the builders have now said they'll be here on Friday. But we'll see.
I have written words today! And they're words I like which is always a good thing.
Thank you. I love York, especially at Christmas time.

Good luck!
Oh yay that’s awesome! What is it?

Date: 2018-12-11 06:05 pm (UTC)Your aunt's house sounds amazing!
I saw from your comment that the builder is supposed to come on Friday. I'm keeping everything crossed it's true this time!!
You have your tree up, yay! It isn't a proper advent until you've put up your tree! I demand photos :-D
I hope you'd lots of fun in York!

Date: 2018-12-12 01:20 pm (UTC)I'm sorry about the shelves still not being done :< what a poor streak of luck!
I always love your tree :-) it doesn't suit my German sensibilities, but it definitely suits my Polish ones! :D

Date: 2018-12-13 08:10 am (UTC)And how frustrating about the builders. Perhaps being resigned to waiting is the path of least stress after all.

Date: 2018-12-15 07:22 pm (UTC)I think you're right. Dehydration especially, I need to be better at drinking when I'm out and about.
My aunt's house is amazing. I wish I'd taken photos of everything but I was too stunned to do so at the time. There was just stuff everywhere. I could hardly take it all in.
Nope, no builders yesterday. What's annoying is I know he's doing us a favour. It's a small job compared to the ones he normally does, and I know he'll be wanting to get his big jobs done for Christmas. But I just wish he'd say he'll come in the new year instead of giving a day and then not turning up. I'm not desperate for my shelves and could wait. As it is, he said he'll be here 8am on Monday now, but we'll see.
We did :)

Date: 2018-12-15 07:25 pm (UTC)That sounds horrible. What I find about Ikea is that while you can take shortcuts you need to know where they are, so mostly you're just trapped following hours. Which isn't the best when you're not feeling the best.
Apparently the builders will be coming Monday morning now. I'm not convinced it will happen tbh.

Thank you! I have to admit, my tree can be called busy *g*

Date: 2018-12-15 07:26 pm (UTC)Seriously, what is it about Ikea and the tealights? I'm sure 99% of people walk out of there carrying some.

Date: 2018-12-15 07:28 pm (UTC)It was. Thankfully it was months since the last time and I knew the signs to ward off a full faint.
The builders are frustrating me. They were supposed to come yesterday, but nope. Next time is Monday now. We'll see what happens I guess.
