Day 5
In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.
hc_bingo I was lucky enough to have a first hand view as this community was first dreamt up and then created.
eglantiere is not only an excellent person but an excellent mod, too. Sadly, despite taking part in many bingos I've yet to win, even a line. However, I have faith that this year may be my year. So yes, an excellent comm I enjoy a lot.
A03. It's hard to believe that the archive didn't exist when I first got into fandom. It's a place that's brought me hours of enjoyment, and it's not often I can't find the exact thing I need to scratch a fic itch.
no_tags this is such a brilliant challenge. I've taken part often, and watched as it changed mod hands a few times, but each new person has overseen another crop of excellent stories. What people can write in a week amazes me.
picfor1000 yes old friends, you're going to hear the story yet again. Back in the day picfor1000 was where I posted my first ever bandom story. Well, the first official one anyway. It's a challenge where you get a picture prompt and then have to write a story of exactly 1000 words in response. I'd done a few popslash responses in previous years, but that year I wrote something waybros centric. And every year since then I've done the same. Except last year when I flaked on the challenge for the first time ever. But yes, it's multi fannish and such a cool thing to attempt.
And finally, a nod to popslash and Make the Yuletide Gay. Sadly the exchange ended last year but had an amazing run from 2001 to 2017, changing hands once in that time.
nospeud and
pensnest were fantastic mods, and while the exchange is now over the site has hundreds of popslash stories there to be enjoyed.

Date: 2019-01-05 06:34 pm (UTC)Oh gosh, yes, AO3. I remember so clearly it being posited way back when LJ was starting its nonsense, but it also feels like it's been there forever. It's so beautifully fit for purpose, elegantly so, and I love it.

I totally agree. It does feel like it's been there forever, and when I think back to multiple personal websites, web rings and posting fic on LJ. It makes you wonder how people found anything to read at all. But of course they did, it's just, A03 makes it so much easier.
