I knew this would be coming at some point in the challenge, but I was hoping it would be on a day I wasn't busy. Alas, that wasn't to be.

However, I can still post my response and the loss of picfor1000 this year means I've a counting words space empty in my life, so -- give me a pairing or character and prompt and I'll write you a drabble. By which I mean the old meaning of a drabble which is something exactly 100 words long.

Any fandom as long as I actually know it.

Because I am busy responses won't be immediate, but I will get to them asap.

This isn't what you were prompting at all I'm sure, but it's what my brain latched on to. Also a double drabble as I'm a big cheater that cheats.

Letter clutched in his hand, Ghoul folds himself down. Knees drawn up and back against sun-warm metal, he lets out a breath and hopes. Not wishes, he knows wishes can’t happen, but he clings onto tatters of hope.

Close-by, Kobra’s staring off into the distance, his anger pulled close. “He won’t see it.”

“He might.” Ghoul thinks about words scrawled over paper, torn through and the ink running in places. “He knows that it’s here.”

“All the more reason to stay away,” Kobra spits out, newly bitter in a way Ghoul hates to see. “It’s pointless.”

“No, it’s not.” That Ghoul has to believe, he’s already lost so much, his home, his identity, even his name. He can’t lose this too. “You have to have hope.”

Kobra shrugs, says simply, “My hope disappeared when he did.”

There’s no words, Ghoul’s tried them all, and each one has failed -- but this, this he can try.

“He’ll see it.” Ghoul stands, knees aching and skin pulled tight as he opens his hand and lets go of the letter -- and hopes.

Hopes as he walks to Kobra and, together, they leave. The postbox behind them, standing sentry at the side of the road.

The postbox always makes me feel sad for some reason. All the messages on it I guess. All those people hoping for what's probably lost.

So rarely see the postbox in fic. I love the fact that the actual postbox is living in Gerard and Lindsey's foyer, though.

I know better to have any expectations. If I wanted specific drabblings, I would have asked for werewolves. ;D

This is very, very fitting though - for the prompt and the cant of the year. I like how the space around the moment mirrors the desolation around them. There's so much you just don't know, so much that's not being said. And only half of *that* has supplementary body language. Ah, you write the best Killjoys. I would, of course, love to know more. But this is a fantastic treat. Thank you Terri. <3

Seriously, though - I really enjoyed this. Though its not the same 'verse, it reminds me of Embers. But I think that's because you have such a clear sense of how the *Killjoys* work.
