Jan. 7th, 2020 05:38 pmWe finally got to see JoJo Rabbit today, and I thought it was great, though, a couple did walk out so I know not everyone agrees.
Honestly, I went in only knowing the trailer and that
glitteryv had been really looking forward to seeing it. As I trust Luce's taste, that meant I was too.
First off, I was expecting a close to the bone comedy focused on the war, Hitler and Nazis. And yeah, I got that. What I wasn't expecting was parts were utterly heartbreaking. Ranging from scenes that were nothing but heartbreaking to ones that were played partly for comedy but also tragedy at the same time. And, how it worked I don't know, but it did. At least it did for me.
Honestly, it did cut close to the bone and I would totally understand anyone not wanting to see it because parts were hard to deal with. But at the same time, I really did enjoy the story and the characters, especially JoJo and Elsa as they went from enemies to friends, Elsa being incredibly patient with a ten-year-old boy and his dangerous and ridiculous ideas.
Today's snowflake challenge is about goals, which I'll fully answer tomorrow. Though the immediate one that jumps into my mind is, write more you slacker! Tonight though is for a bath and an early night as I didn't sleep at all well last night and I'm really tired right now.

Date: 2020-01-23 11:00 pm (UTC)There are several things (from the premise to the fact that Sam Rockwell's in it--I can't stand him) that would've made me avoid it. But I was like "well, even if I haaaaate the movie, I have shown my support for Taika". And, surprise, it ended up being a way more heartfelt film than expected. Also incredibly funny in parts.
Though, as you can guess by now, I'm the kind of person who thinks that checking out new stuff every so often is an actual good thing. ;)
(Ooof, you've also just reminded me that I gotta do my 2019 in Film post. X____X)

Date: 2020-04-01 04:16 pm (UTC)I'm very glad you did get me to see JoJo Rabbit because I did enjoy it. Though do think it was marketed weird as it was said to be a comedy and while yeah, it is to an extent, there was so much more there too.
It's a film that still sticks with me while so many have become muddled by time.

I did guess that. It's actually why I like awards season at the cinema as it does spotlight films that normally wouldn't be shown. Of course, the unlimited card helped, I probably wouldn't be so quick to branch out if I was paying. But, for JoJo I was very glad I did.
