Mar. 31st, 2020 10:37 amMurphy is home and after yet more phone calls to the vet's Milo has antibiotics and they seem to be kicking in. Pansy is much younger and seems to be throwing this off on her own, so as she already hates me for giving her liquid painkillers we decided to hold off on tablets for now, though they're there if she needs them. My bedroom is part bedroom part vets office now with all the meds kept up there. I'm also feeding Pansy and Milo up there as well as downstairs so there's also bowls of food. Upstairs is Milo and Pansy's safe space right now, but they do still come downstairs for the litter-trays and there are less toilet brushtail situations going on when they meet Murphy, so slow and patient is the way to go still.
After seeing them get better and some actual good sleep I'm feeling much better about the whole situation, and am telling myself not to post when I'm so tired again, as everything feels much worse than it actually is.
Murphy himself has settled great. He's such a teenage cat though, rampaging around, eating, sleeping and causing havoc. Things go flying off surfaces, he's nearly fallen in the toilet, got caught in the blinds, explored every inch of the house, sleeps on my pillow like it's his bed and apart from when he's sleeping is never quiet. I'm sure I hear his chirp in my sleep right now.
Murphy.
For the first time in over a week, I had to walk into town to get some cat food, the kind with lots of gravy and soft for sore cat throats.
I'd been to a big Sainsbury's last week but seeing my local high street really brought home how much things have changed. Most of the shops were shut with signs taped to the shutters and the Lidl opposite mine has black lines taped to the floor for the people waiting outside to get in, as it's strictly one in one out atm. I was going to B&M though, so bypassed that then had to wait in another queue, again one in one out, and so many people were wearing masks. In the shop, a woman had to backtrack when she saw I was already in the pet food aisle and made the comment it made her feel like we were all lepers, and I get what she means. The whole thing was unsettling and I was glad when I was back home again.
In good news, James work phoned and he's fine to go back. Though that won't be until next Tuesday as he has a weeks holiday first. Who knew when he booked it last year he'd spent the entirety of it in the house or walking around the estate once a day.

Date: 2020-03-31 10:26 am (UTC)Yeah it really felt so strange when we went out Last week and that was before the queuing thing started. I’m trying to tell mum we’ll have to be sensible about it since we went have a lift this time but I can already tell she won’t.
That’s good! And yeah it’s so strange

I get this. But sometimes I find I need to see it in writing to realize that I'm overwrought! I'm glad you're feeling better about the situation. ♥

That's a very good point. Also, it did help me to talk it out on here, so that was another plus.

Date: 2020-03-31 03:04 pm (UTC)You do have to be sensible. I'm glad we have the car as we can go straight there and back and get a big shop and stock up. The less time we all can be out there the better. So, I hope your mum listens to you.

Date: 2020-03-31 04:08 pm (UTC)I went out for groceries on Saturday and had to queue outside for the market stall, the butcher, the bakery, ... Lidl had someone outside to handle people going in and disinfecting shopping cart handles (after people took them from where they're stored to the entrance, so I'm not sure how much good that did). Another supermarket had an announcement that they were only allowing one person per household to do the shopping, at which point a father quickly steered his son outside (which was actually a bit funny: "Why am I being thrown out?") It's all more than strange, my sister only reluctantly goes out anymore.

Date: 2020-03-31 06:59 pm (UTC)It's so weird seeing high streets and everything so empty. I went into town on Saturday as I had to pick up meds (mine -- the dogs' I'd already sorted out!) and it was very strange. I was amused though by the woman who inadvertently completely blocked a big wide automatic door . . . by standing vaguely near it.

Date: 2020-04-01 01:51 am (UTC)Anyway, Murphy is a very handsome young man. I love his white nose and socks.
That sounds unsettling seeing the stores like that. I haven't had to go out yet but I guess I have that to expect when I do.
I'm glad also though that James will be allowed to work (and get his salary!). I hope he enjoys the staycation however possible in the meantime!

His staycation is involving a lot of tv atm. But, he's getting a sleep in so is managing to relax anyway.

It's so easily done if you're not aware at all times. I've been reading how some shops have marked out squares inside and only one person is allowed into one at one time. Which makes sense, but I imagine a lot of strategic moving must be going on.

Date: 2020-04-01 10:56 am (UTC)I don't blame your sister for being reluctant to go out. It's such a strange atmosphere, and yeah, I think disinfecting the trolley handles when you get to the entrance is a bit late. I've started taking my own disinfectant wipes with me to wipe down handles etc because of things like that.
How are you doing? Last I saw you'd been poorly and were about to go into hospital.

So good to hear James will be able to go back to work after his holiday.

Date: 2020-04-02 11:31 am (UTC)Yup. I had to run out yesterday for milk and some cat stuff. Scary. Didn't like it.

It is scary out there. As much as it drives me mad at times having to stay home, it feels much more comfortable to do so.

Date: 2020-04-02 04:43 pm (UTC)Me too. It got dicey for a while, but I know a lot of it was how hard it is to see a vet right now. I'll never take that for granted again.

Date: 2020-04-02 07:25 pm (UTC)Oops. Yes, I've been thinking for a while that I should update my journal, but I never seem to get around to it.
I'm good! A bit stressed, but who isn't nowadays. My surgery in December went mostly fine. (Uh, medical TMI following.) It turned out that the cyst and the fallopian tube had tangled, which was probably where my pain came from. Unfortunately, this basically kills the affected ovary, so they had to take that out as well. But the other ovary can take over the job just fine, so there are no long-term consequences apart from maybe some light scarring. I kept saying that an intern must have done the stitches on the left side, but even that is getting better.

Date: 2020-04-04 03:22 pm (UTC)Oh ouch, a tangle between the fallopian tube and the cyst sounds painful, but I'm glad the other ovary can take over. And that things are getting better stitch wise. You really did go through the wars for a while.
