Aug. 25th, 2020 04:34 pmI've been to the Pawsome Cat Cafe at Durham today and enjoyed it a lot. Though for reasons I'll talk about later, we only had half of our one hour slot. Apparently it's owned by the same people who have Catpawchino in Newcastle, which I suspected as it has a very similar look, plus, with it being all pedigree cats. But, what's nice about Pawsome is, because the cats are from someone's actual home, they're very friendly and want cuddles and lap sitting. Plus, Simon the kitten is as adorable as he looked in his photos. You can see two pics from me here.
So, why we were late. I booked a slot then the doctor phoned James
He said James' urine sample had come back clear for infection but still had blood in it, so wanted to put him on the two-week pathway to see the urologist at the hospital. After talking a bit more and James saying how the pain he'd had had shifted and other details the doctor asked him to come down for blood tests and an exam. This was about an hour before we were due at Durham but obviously was more important so down we went.
I was allowed in with James as I was needed to help him undress, and the doctor suspects it's a kidney stone, but they still need to investigate other things so he'll be called into the hospital for tests within the next fortnight. While all his symptoms do suggest the stone it's impossible not to think worst-case scenario and I'll be pulling on my quite impressive compartmentalisation skills these next weeks I think.
After leaving the doctors it was already ten minutes after our Pawsome slot started, but we decided to go anyway as we'd already paid to book, so figured it was better to have half an hour then nothing. The staff were lovely and said if they weren't fully booked the hour after our hour they would have let us stay for the full time, sadly, they were full so we left after 30 minutes of cat cuddling, which is just what I needed.
ETA: Thought I'd watch an episode of Downton to cheer myself up, and hit the second big tragedy. I knew it would happen, but man, such timing.
