Dec. 30th, 2020 10:07 amThank you
turlough for the excellent Christmas gift of seeds. It really was a surprise and I can't wait until I can sow them. Every time I see the resulting plants/flowers I'll think of you which is a very excellent thing. And thank you
teigh_corvus for the card, and especially the message inside. You had me all misty-eyed when I read. All the ♥ in the world to you both.
I was at the post office yesterday and talking to the post lady found out that outward mail from the UK had been stopped for a while and was still stopped to Europe right now. I'm not sure when that started but suspect that along with the original royal mail backlog may explain why out of all my parcels and cards only two have apparently arrived, one in the UK and one in Australia. Hopefully, people won't mind getting Christmas wishes well into the new year.
Christmas was good, like people the world over I'm sure, it was quiet but it was great to have Corey home for a while. He did very well with his Christmas gifts this year, getting me two Lush boxes and his dad a huge beer stein type glass which was a huge hit. James bought me this cardigan which I love loads, especially as it has buttons. Joe Brown is one of my favourite brands and the cardi is so cosy. Though, it has to be washed separately which makes sense but is a bit of a pain.
Kayleigh gave me a Lush gift card, but when I went to my local shop they had hardly anything left in the sale, and what there was I didn't want. So, I've kept the gift card for later in the year. But, for the first time in a few years, they also had an online sale that went live yesterday. Predictably the site crashed in minutes and stayed crashed for most of the day. But, I managed a few things so will be stocked for a while.
My MiL and Fil did come for Christmas day but had to stay longer than planned as my MiL had a fall and we had to call the ambulance. She was fine, just her legs went and because she's a larger lady it was impossible to get her up again. In the end the falls team from the ambulance service came in the early hours and used the special lifting thing to get her upright and she was fine after that. It knocked her confidence though which is a shame as she's been trying really hard to try and move around ready for her visit. It was a bit of a worrying time but going home she said how nice it had been to have been fussed over for a while, so it was worth it.
Today I'm catching up on the washing, mopping floors etc and plan on an online catchup. I apologise in advance to the regular posters.
ETA: The mail backlog strikes again. The hospital appointment James has been waiting for was apparently a telephone one with a letter sent out saying so. They called him earlier, but he's at work and knew nothing about it so couldn't make arrangements to answer. Now he's on a waiting list for a cancellation otherwise it'll be months.

Date: 2020-12-30 02:10 pm (UTC)That’s not a surprise, but I hope they get there soon
Sounds like a nice Christmas, quiet is good. But yay for cozy. I’m glad you managed to get some things even though the site acted up
Aww no that’s a shame about her fall. I hope it doesn’t knock her confidence too much
Oh no!

Date: 2020-12-30 03:15 pm (UTC)Yeah, it's frustrating when I thought I'd posted in time. Goodness knows where they all are. At least yours arrived. You must have an extra special postperson.
Before they stopped the online sales I used to spend a lot of Boxing Day shaking my fist at the Lush website. Because it's the only sale they do it would always crash under demand, and of course it did the same this time. At one point I had two browsers open on my main computer and the ap on my phone. But I got there in the end.
It really was a shame about the fall as she'd been managing okay until then. Of course, with it being Christmas day the ambulance service was run off its feet, therefore a long wait.

Date: 2020-12-30 04:14 pm (UTC)Turlough gives the best gifts! You should let us know what flowers/plants they are for.
I'm sorry your MiL had that fall. I'm super afraid of falling these days. I fell in the snow the other week and I was like a wibble wobble trying to get back up.

Date: 2020-12-30 04:40 pm (UTC)So many cardigans come waterfall style, which is fine for warmer weather but in the winter I want buttons or a zip. So this one was great, plus it has a hood for extra snuggling.
I will tell you as the seeds are on my desk right now. There are red sunflowers, yellow sunflowers, squash, tomatoes, courgettes and a flower that looks like a beautiful yellow and red cross. Also, thankfully English instructions on how to sow them. And, one of the tomatoes are called 'Brandywine' which made me smile.
If my MiL could have gone two more steps she would have fallen back onto the couch, but she just didn't have the strength. I know what you mean about falling though, it was snowing here yesterday, the stage of snow where it's more ice than deep snow, and I felt like Bambi, legs going everywhere when I was going into town.
Hope you were okay after your fall.

Date: 2020-12-31 06:52 am (UTC)I'm sorry to hear about your MiL's fall though. I hope her efforts do pay off eventually. And how extremely frustrating about James's appointment call! Fingers crossed for something to open up soon.

Date: 2020-12-31 11:11 am (UTC)I felt bad for my MiL, it was such a simple thing and she'd been looking forward to the visit so much.
While I understand why the mail is so backed up, it's still frustrating when it leads to things like missed appointments. It's such a waste of time for everyone involved.

Date: 2020-12-31 04:46 pm (UTC)Sorry to hear about your MiL, I'm glad that she had a nice day but I hope she doesn't lose too much confidence.
The post is all over the place, what with the weight of orders for things in general and the nightmare around our international borders right now. I hope it will settle out relatively quickly, but with Brexit and Covid as it is I suppose it'll be a while yet.

Date: 2020-12-31 05:19 pm (UTC)My MiL has been making noises about assisted living again, which is actually a good thing as she really needs it. I think she's realised what she's been missing stuck in her own house, especially as it's falling down around her.
Yeah, I agree, it'll be a while before the post is back to normal. I really feel for anyone delivering right now, both postpeople and parcel delivery, because they must be under a huge amount of strain.

Date: 2021-01-02 05:17 pm (UTC)I know I won't mind in the least if my gift turns out to be weeks late! It will just be an opportunity to enjoy Christmas again!
That cardigan looks wonderfully comfy! (I really don't understand why so many cardigans don't have buttons! Particularly if they're heavy and thick. Who wants a thick cardigan they can't button up against the wind and cold?!!)
Hooray for so many Lush products!!
It sounds like you'd a lovely holiday and that the inlaws did too despite your MiL's fall. Hopefully she won't feel discouraged for long. I mean, the more she moves around the steadier she will grow and the less likely to fall.
Argghh!! How very frustrating for him! I hope he'll get an appointment through the cancellation list soon.

Date: 2021-01-04 01:42 pm (UTC)Aw, I'm sorry that happened to your MIL. How heartbreaking, especially if she uses it as an excuse not to try again.

Date: 2021-01-04 04:19 pm (UTC)The fall really knocked my MiLs confidence. I really don't think she'll be leaving her home any time soon, even when the pandemic is nothing but a bad nightmare :(

Date: 2021-01-04 05:12 pm (UTC)I suspect your gift is going to be very late, despite being sent well in time. Brexit and COVID have done a number on the UK mail, goodness knows where my cards and parcels actually are.
I really don't understand why so many cardigans don't have buttons! Particularly if they're heavy and thick. Who wants a thick cardigan they can't button up against the wind and cold?!!)
Exactly! Fair enough to have no buttons if it's the light kind used more as a cover up, but if I want something heavy to keep me warm, I want to be able to fasten it.
I mean, the more she moves around the steadier she will grow and the less likely to fall.
I totally agree. Sadly when she's at home she's got no need to walk far, only moving from her recliner to the commode. It's no life for anyone.
I really hope James gets a cancellation soon. He had to go to the doctors for more antibiotics this morning. It's really dragging on.
