Snowflake Challenge Four

In your own space, make a list of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, and/or that you'd like someone to create or do for you. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I'd like to see more people come back to 'don't like, don't read'
I'm lucky that I've only had minor negative comments to my fic, but I know of so many people who have been hurt because they've attracted targeted negativity.
It's even easier now that tags are used so extensively, if you don't like something, don't read it. It seems like such a simple concept and yet so many people seem to not get that.
It's okay to dislike something. Some of my long time and good friends haven't read all of my fic because they don't like the tropes, pairings etc and that's fine. That's how it should be.
It's not okay to dislike something, go and read that thing you dislike and then attack the writer. It's something I'll never understand.
As for what I want for me, there's nothing really. I mean, I wouldn't turn down a h/c epic-length Musketeer/Mikeycentric/winterhawk story but really, fandom and the people around me here have been pretty great to me and I'm quite content.
I guess one thing I can ask is, if you enjoy a fannish work, a graphic, fic, rec list, comm, anything, tell the creator in a manner that feels comfortable to you, be that kudos or comment. It'll mean a lot I'm sure.

Date: 2022-01-08 07:53 am (UTC)So like you the bits I do hear about are from other people.
My fannish life may be small and I may be missing out by keeping away from these other spaces, but I like it like this where I can say what I like without worrying. I just wish it was the same for everyone.

Date: 2022-01-08 04:11 pm (UTC)I was saying to someone else, the trade off for no wankiness is that I miss things, but hoenstly I too am okay with that. Although, obviously, the preferable outcome would be if we could just... not.

Date: 2022-01-08 06:30 pm (UTC)Yeah, me too. If I find myself reading something I dislike I stop reading it and do something else. I wouldn't finish and leave a negative comment. It really doesn't make sense to me.
One negative comment I got makes me laugh now, I've mentioned it many times but what anyone hoped to achieve by writing 'ew het' as an anon comment on a fic I don't know. It's not like I was going to apologise profusely for daring to write f/m.

I'd really like for people to come back to being more responsible for their own experience and consumption
If only!

Date: 2022-01-08 06:36 pm (UTC)'not my cup of tea, I'll leave the rest of the pot for you'
I like that saying, now I want people to go back to using that too.

Date: 2022-01-08 08:03 pm (UTC)I'm sorry I can't provide you with the epic h/c story of your dream but I can do as you ask and always tell the creator I liked what they'd made!

Date: 2022-01-09 05:33 pm (UTC)this is a very nice wish. i agree that i can't really understand hate-reading something and then leaving a shitty comment — but also i think a lot of times, people don't even read it? they look for tags of things they dislike and then go into the comments to tell the author off, which. idk. feels like a weird outlet for one's frustrations with the world's ills. but also i think a lot of people have been really traumatized by fandom spaces and they don't have a lot of recourse to deal with that except to kinda...campaign against people they don't really know, who are totally unrelated to the bad things that happened to them. i hope, not just in fandom, but as a wider culture, we move more towards spaces of compassion that, like, ultimately help reduce these kinds of interactions.
wouldn't turn down a h/c epic-length Musketeer/Mikeycentric/winterhawk story but really
ok but whaaaaaaat kind of epic h/c mikeycentric fic do you want because i. am interested.
